AS OF 7AM MARCH 19 WE ARE WAY WAY BEYOND OUR GOAL!! this is so wonderful. we will keep raising! the UN is calling this the worst humanitarian crisis since ww2. currently more than 20 million people in 4 countries face starvation. all of the money we raise will go towards purchasing and delivering goods. we will NOT be giving the fund$ to any governments. we are working with the American Refugee Committee to organize logistics. THANK YOU SO MUCH. more info here - www.gofundme.com/LOVEARMYFORSOMALIA

Of all the things to do, people are complaining about who Casey is helping, and how he is helping them. How about instead of complaining, take initiative, and raise money for a cause that you think is better. Hating on what other people are doing, especially people who could have the option to not care at all, is ridiculous. Just because someone had enough energy and love in their heart to do something, and you don't, it doesn't mean you have to go criticize them when they try to do good. Like if you think this has some truth to it, if any at all. @CaseyNeistat

I'm no one to tell anyone what they should do with money they worked for. Hell, no one is going to tell me how I spend mine. I don't really donate since I'm in a higher tax bracket. The government already gives a large chunk of my money to the poor for me. 😂😂😂😂😐

Its our culture that has us blowing up the middle east, our addiction to energy. Thats why fuck heads like ISIS radicals dont pick or choose targets. They go after us because WE are responsible. Every dollar is a vote. iM not voting for a country that supports violent forces like ISIS. Get off your fucking pedistal the world is cruel. You chose to displace yourself from the cruelty. The thing is though people in less developed countries have lots of children because, although sad as it may be, a lot of children will die from things like disease. Also, they can't afford to just not have children because they need people to help them work, so even if birth control was a choice in these less developed countries I doubt people would take it

twelge15 Yes, buying food and shipping it is the easy part. Distributing even that 60 tons, which is nothing really when it comes to food, in a country riddled with terrorists and corrupt this and that isn't easy. If you'd properly want to distribute 1mil usd worth of food, you'd probably need five times as much people to, preferably peacekeepers or similar, to distribute it.. Even then it's only 60 tons. Quick calc says 60 tons of rice (about 6-7 million kcal) would only feed 30k people for a day. You'd be better of with a container ship and about 500 containers..

Just to mention that Casey forgot to mention that this is a man made disaster. One not solely in anyway linked to drought, but rather the conflict that is occurring in the region, limiting the ability for aid organisations to get in and help. Look at Yemen where Saudi Arabian forces have blown up the main ports infrastructure, so aid cannot be offloaded. The problems in east Africa and southern Arabia run far more deep than drought!
Still great effort i wish them luck, i just hope it is not just another Hollywood backed vanity project.

I've seen the comments and I came to the conclusion that people cannot be open minded. These deed you guys are doing is one of the nicest things I've seen. If it was you that was starving and had no food, one Bottle of water and some bread would feel like a gift from god. I remember reading a story about how little things can make a difference. There was a beach with millions of starfish that washed up onto the beach, a little girl was throwing one starfish into the water at a time, a man approached her and asked why you are doing this, there are millions of starfish, you won't make a difference. The little girl replied but the ones I did throw back into the water, it made a difference for them.

I will say this about Jerome, he's not much of a vlogger, but he's a good human being with a heart of gold. Thanks for reminding some of us that it only takes ONE person to start a movement. Great use of your popularity.

but why is he popular? You have to be a bit more cynical. People don't waste energy and time where there is no return.

Knosis, actually good , kind, positive people will do just that give and not expect anything in return.

    • @Knosferatu
      @Knosferatu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

actually they do, whether it be Karma, access to heaven, better next life, even seeing someone smile. There is always a return. Even saints expect a return. All I know is, a person who became a millionaire because of his popularity, is using his popularity to make more millions.

    • @Jan-oq8qm
      @Jan-oq8qm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

it must be so draining and soul destroying to forever be envious of other people and have to put them down all the time. Whether you believe it or not but there really are people out in this big wide world that do give and not expect anything in return. A smile would be a bonus but not expected.

Take the constructive part out of their criticism and throw away the rest with their fears passivity and cynism. Listen to them, they can only say sentences starting by "what about". In the U.K. we have a charity called Comic Relief, every other year it raises 10s of millions £ in a single night to go to third world countries like Ethiopia and since 1988 it has raised over £1bn. Nothing has changed with regards to these countries, nothing will until the governments change their ways BUT it doesn't mean that charities shouldn't keep raising money. If people want to give then there will always be a need somewhere.

Nothing has changed? Ethiopia is much, MUCH better off than it was in the 90's, and in part, it is thanks to charities like the one you just diminished without any factual evidence. My factual evidence? Google Ethiopia 1990's and Ethiopia today. There is HOPE and optimism and well fed people there today. There was only despair and starvation two decades ago.

This is such a wonderful iniciantive, kudos to everyone involved!
However, as someone working with NGO's for a long time I have to say this requires some thought out logistics. Who and how will they distribute all this resource? Somalia pretty much has no stable government and corruption+guerrillas run the place. Outsiders are regularly kidnapped and if careful steps are not taken they might end up sponsoring corruption. Getting the money is not the biggest challenge, making sure it goes to the right people is.

Thank you for writing such a sensible comment! This is obviously an incredibly complex situation and something that none of us could really understand without actually being there to experience it and study it first hand. But the fact is, we can't just be complacent because the situation is complicated. If nothing else, this initiative has raised awareness and motivated people to care. I hope they seek expert advice and work hard to ensure that starving people are fed. Period.

That's great to hear Alexander. I bet they'll have the expertise to properly distribute the resources. The CEO at the NGO I work with, World Mobilization, was just in Somalia. He's a doctor. The gangs swept the coutry that week and kidnapped many westerners, they only left him alone because he was treating Somalis at a makeshift hospital in the middle of nowhere.

I've never donated to any cause ever before not because I didn't care but because I just didn't. Something about this movement made me feel like I needed to help, because if a large group of people do small good then that ends up being a giant help for anyone in need. The reasons for famines is not because there is not enough food, it's that it's not distributed correctly and so the vulnerable groups of society are unable to gain access. We need to give this short-term help but things structurally have to change so in the long run this is not a reoccurring issue. The only way change happens is if we force it. Work together £££££

    • @ColdKrave

no it's because the infant mortality rate is so high and in order to have 3 kids alive sometimes you have to have 10. Its really sad but that's the way it works

But to say that these people who have kids need to have responsibility for them and inferring that's Somali parents don't take responsibility for their children is fucking stupid and disgusting. Parents are starving so their kids can have a piece of bread or a cup of water. I know so many parents who died because they went out looking for food thus, got killed or passed out never to wake up again. How the hell were they supposed to know that the drought since 2011 would get worse? How? Did you know the future? Many of these parents love their kids and are crying for help not for themselves but so their children can survive. Since you were saying education is key..why don't you go learn a few things?

Why fill a cargo plane with water when you can get lifestraw family filters which filters thousands and thousands of gallons with minimal cost, training, size, and weight. You can also bring desalinators which can purify sea water although they would cost more and could only be used in coastal areas. Another good idea would be to bring water containers that collapse and when you get to Somalia buy flat bed trucks and put the containers on the back so you could bring water to areas that may be more severely affected by the drought, especially clean water, and transport food. Food wise basic provisions such as baby formula, rice, oats, grains for life stock, beans, and even lard would be best to send to Somalia saving the most space and money. Also before you get on the ground security is a concern in Somalia so I recommend having a western security team when you go over there. Maybe try and tweet some PMC companies to help provide those services as they can be expensive but they are necessary for security and that resources are divided fairly with who ever is supervising each supply drop.Btw make sure you have local advisors from people already there and maybe other NGOs. I really want to make sure the organizers see this comment so please like. I don't care about me but I want those people to get the best help they can.

There is access to clean water, but at a disteance, that is why they are using water trucks to bring the water to the regions that need it - big money and poer needs for desalination, and lifestraws still nees a water supply, this is the most cost-effective solution at the moment.

It's crazy how this #LoveArmyForSomalia is not getting traction among the biggest celebrities that have a insane social media following like Kevin Hart, Justin Bieber and others, even if they decide not to donate because they most likely have many other things they are involved in, you would think they could atleast Tweet it out to gain more traction.. there's no way they haven't seen the tweets they have been tagged in.

If Benstiller donates 1/100th of his total $120 Million worth and Casey donates
1/20th of his total $25 Million worth .. they can save Somalia two times with $2
      Million.

    Couple things:
    1. Just because Casey, Ben Stiller etc have more money than the average person, they are under no extra obligation to donate than the average person. I get it, they have made more, but they have earned every cent that they have, the same as everyone else. They are asking other people to help because it is a cause they believe in. It also gives other people a chance to donate money to a cause that they may not have heard about. They have also donated.
    2. Sure there are other issues going on in the world, but this does not mean that we should abandon this cause because there are other issues. Casey, Jerome and co have identified a situation where people are living a lower standard of life and they are helping to solve that problem. WE SHOULD NOT ABANDON EVERY SINGLE HUMANITARIAN CAUSE JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHER PROBLEMS. USING THIS LOGIC, NO PROBLEM GETS SOLVED EVER, AS DIFFERENT PEOPLE SEE DIFFERENT CAUSES AS HAVING DIFFERENT LEVELS OF IMPORTANCE.
    3. This is not a scam. My guess is Turkish Airlines will recognize this act on social media. Everybody you have seen in this video has identified themselves with this cause. This means that if it is a scam, they have all associated themselves with fraud. Furthermore, if it is a scam, and in in this case it would be very easy to verify, it would require every employee in the entirety of Turkish Airlines, including their hired lawyers and accountants, and all airports they work at, to be in on it.
    4. The money over 1 million dollars will still be used. The GofundMe is public, you can see how much money will go to buying food and Turkish airlines. If this amount is shown in the future to not be used to the fullest extent, then these celebrities will have their lives and careers ruined for stealing money from the public, which I'm pretty sure no-one in this group of people would be dumb enough to do.
Please can we go back to loving people. If you don't believe in the cause, don't donate. Be cool to people that are doing cool things.

+Jake Thompson Give me one link that shows GoFundMe publically shows their donation amounts when asked by the public.
No one should use GoFundMe to create a donation page for an ENTIRE FUCKING COUNTRY. If this was legit, they would be working for an organization and not making people donate through a service that cuts off the top, and allows the creators to skim off the top too. This company is based in CA and I see they do take cuts of donations. This is just a giant shit storm when it didn't need to be. Why didn't they just get backed government officials or something like RED CROSS?
Also once you make a certain amount of money you can invest and then your money does all the work for you. Just because you have money doesn't mean you earned it. I know 3 trust fund babies personally, so it is quite common for people to NOT WORK FOR THEIR MONEY. Also rich people need to give more, If you don't know what you own, you own too much.
There is not one fucking cool thing about this.
