    I love how all of the casters has something special to bolster the way they cast spells. I know it is probably to much to ask for and probably not worth the time, but I would be willing to watch a 40 minute video going over the martials as well.

    I had a first-time DC20 player for my session yesterday that played a sorcerer. When the party's Angelborn made the mistake to don some demonic armor, this player poured ALL FOUR AP -- and ALL HIS GRIT POINTS -- to pry the magic out of his friend's head, allowing the armor to be removed! EPIC MOMENTS!!!

    I think the word "points" is coming up more often than it needs to, it could just be me but i feel like you can convey the same message with just "manna", "stamina", "health", while keeping it for "rest point" and any other examples where adding points helps to get the meaning across. Like imagine a fight breaks out and everyone pulls out magic weapons and begins casting spells and then the purple Hippo is just like. "My friend, you have met a terrible, terrible demise. But, uh, you know, I-I don’t feel too bad about it. After all, if- if it weren’t from me, it would have just been from someone else, ya know? I guess what I’m trying to say is life, life goes on. I really love the prime stat idea for how it handles different takes on magic. D&D has used mental stats for casting for so long its assumed, but when we look at magic in media there are some really fun physical casters. Anime is full of physical characters like Natsu Dragneel and Mereoleona Vermillion who built monsterous bodys to be able to withstand and channel powerful magic. Likewise there are concepts like water and air benders as well as various spell dancers that imply a very dexterous casting style.
    On a similar note characters like Superman, All Might, or even the Hulk often act as the bard, inspiring their team through acts of sheer physical strength. These characters are appreciated for their strength but often the greatest effect they have is inspiring their team and showing their is hope.
    I need to see a finished product before i decide whether this will be my next main system, but i love so many of the concepts you have come up with. Inherently balancing stats before tying them to class features really freed you to have a lot of fun elsewhere.

    One of the things I had pointed out to me once while playing back in the 3.5 days is that Oratory was also an option among performance skills, so you can also have a public speaking / rhetoric focused bard - whether you want to make that a politician, a sophist, a prolific educator, Gnome Socrates, the possibilities are really quite open - but I always loved that idea conceptually that hey it's a charisma based class why shouldn't an option for the "art" of choice just be "insanely persuasive". Which also makes me wonder if you could have a writing focused bard who behaves more like a potion user than a typical spellcaster.

    I'm a bit worried about losing the ability to write spells from spell scrolls for the Wizard. I know the lack of (traditional) preparation casting makes that a bit broken, but it was one of my favorite parts of the class. I've been suggesting my D&D group makes this switch, but I play a Wizard, and I'd be really sad to see that go. Having a little side-project to gather gold for and build towards is SUPER fun.
    Overall, I think the key difference between my vision of a Wizard and my vision of a Sorcerer is: Wizards have a lot of SPELLS, whereas a Sorcerer has less spells, but can cast those spells they DO have more often. Feel like you nailed the Sorcerer, a bit more worried about the Wizard. But maybe I missed something, idk.
    I also think the Warlock should remain... WEIRD as far as the Spellcasters go. Having less spell slots, but the spells you DO cast hit harder has always felt like a core part of the class. And will there be invocations? Making the switch from D&D to DC20 will be hard to pitch to the warlock player base if they lose out on something akin to Eldritch Invocations.
    I strongly recommend making the "life tap" and "life drain" parts at level 2 part of a specific subclass, like an Undead subclass, so the main-class can get invocations at level 2 instead. I really don't see Warlocks as "casts spells willy nilly" type casters, moreso saving them for the right moment, and unleashing the unimaginable might of their patron all at once.
    then maybe have a non-mana based system for the Warlock's spellcasting, because Mana feels tied to your specific character, but the magic of the Warlock is external. Feels like it clashes with the theming of the class imo.
    I think the 5e Warlock is the class that needed the LEAST change, at its core, except for maybe its "eldritch blast spam" thing, but I feel like it was completely stripped of its identity here, unfortunately.

  • @rekcroom
    @rekcroom 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love the fantasy being created for the Warlock. The idea that it essentially is blood magic but with extra stuff is awesome. So many creators have made blood magic subclasses and it somewhat pigeonholes the caster. Making it part of a base class is so much better.

    The only thing I’m kinda mixed on is stamina vs mana since one is renewable while the other is fixed per refresh, which can give more favor of one over the other depending on encounters per day for your group’s playstyle.
    Other than that, hell yeah I enjoy the interactivity of the spellcasting. God I hate the “spell slot” system, and as much as I adore PF2E I hate that they made it even clunkier

    I'm giddy over here, my guy!
    EDIT NOTE: I went back and hunted down the VOD: th-cam.com/video/CDBMH9nMtqQ/w-d-xo.html

    @ryanrindler1715 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This system is shaping up to be very interesting. I do wonder about the "health for power" abilities for warlock and to a lesser extent sorcerers. These kind of mechanics can be extremely swingy depending on the type of game you play. In my experience these type of cost can either be safely circumvented, or are to steep to actually use the feature.

  • @SamuelDancingGallew
    @SamuelDancingGallew 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You know, I added a "high level feat*" to Sorcerers in my system that allows them to Empower a Spell beyond the usual limits. However, it still costs additional Actions, and a basic but interesting interaction with the Initiative Action mechanic causes it to inflict exhaustion if you don't have near the amount of Action Points in order to cast the Spell at that higher level, or Tier (as I call it to reduce new player confusion).
    Kinda cool how we found a similar effect, despite making entirely different systems.
    *: High level here just means 5th Level, as that's when I believe a Party should start getting into the real meat of a Campaign instead of just setup.

    I feel like Warlocks should have more options in how they pay their contract. HP costs are valid, and it certainly works mechanically, but it doesn't make that much sense for it to be something applied across the board for all warlocks, since not all patrons would want payment in terms of life force. Patrons and their contracts are as individual as their Warlocks.
    It makes sense for a Lich (power for vitality), a Vampire (power for blood), a Fiend (power for your soul), an Old God (power for your sanity), and *some* Celestials (power for sacrifice), but there are patrons that would want something else entirely.
    Say you're a warlock to an Archfey. Maybe a Hag would be willing to accept payment by "borrowing" body parts, but a Seelie Fey would be more interested in their own entertainment. This could be represented by your Patron playing a "trick" on you in the form of a wild magic surge when you draw on their power.
    Say you're a warlock to a Dragon. Maybe some Dragons would want to take a bite out of you in exchange for power, but that's less typical for a Dragon than wanting some kind of material tribute. Gold, relics, mortal thralls, land... lots of ways to take that. More of a long-term cost than the other ones, but with the right tuning it's no less of a cost.

    There's this villainous Bard I know that would work very well as a storyteller Bard. They were an excellent manipulator who could use their magic to literally weave the narrative as it happened. Not mind control, couldn't change the past, but could change _something_ in the immediate situation by narrating. Something simple, like forming an ice bridge to cross a chilling river, or something devious, like causing attacks to fail, because they said so. A cross of Sorcerer/Bard seems like it would suit them.

    Also, why no mention of Psion in this video? I know Paladin is being removed for Magus but it seems weird to not mention Psion. Is that being removed too?

      It was stated in a live stream that psion is being pushed back to a different release. It's not cut from the game entirely but is no longer going to be in the players handbook. It sounds like it will be in one of the early dc20 magazines though so hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

      @@TheDungeonCoach Fair enough. If Psion is going to be on the back burner for a while, I do want to mention my main criticism of the class. I don’t think it’s clear on how the Psion obtains their powers in a different way than a Sorcerer. They seem to just be born with it which makes it the same as Sorcerer but with different abilities. It could be similar to Sorcerer like how Warlock and Cleric are similar but different or how Bards learn through practice while Wizards learn through study.
      Edit: I was thinking about this more. Maybe you can say Psion’s draw power from the power of an intelligent creature’s mind in the same way that Druids draw power from nature. Say the existence of intelligent creatures is itself a source that magic can be pulled from? That would also make it possible for anyone to just become one.

    I think the naming here could be better, though I appreciate the ideas being proposed. Like, "once per long rest... but regain after rolling initiative" is needlesly verbose to mean "once per combat", like 4e did.

    All this looks fantasttic and personaly I especialy like the druid grove feature.
    I always wanted druids to siply manipulate nature around them.
    My only "disagreement" is that sorcerer should have a way to give their life force for their magic since they themselfves are bound to magic in a more profound and natural way.
    More than warlocks.
    But I also understand why it was chosen as a warlock feature.
    I would argue that its probabaly more a sorcerer thing than a warlock thing but it comes down to personal preferance.
    Everything looks great either way 😊
    Cant wait for the KS!

    Very small reflavor, but i don't think you need to specify for the wizard that the sigil has to be on the ground. I think it can just be anywhere in the 5-foot-square. Also sigils could potentially be plural. I think the core of the class fantasy for the wizard is the prepared spellcaster, which your mechanics catch quite well. I just think that I, and most people, would just prefer to imagine our wizard's magic as a series of incantations over a staff or book, with magic sigils flying off and floating in the air around us as we shoot of a lightning bolt. I think specifying the ground invokes a more niche fantasy of the summoning or ritual circle, which seems more witchy than wizardy. Also will inevitably raise questions for waterborne or airborne combat. So i think less details may be better.

    Obviously flavor is free and we can do whatever we want, but I wish changing your pact boon was described more like taking a magic weapon you find and absorbing it's power into your pact boon. Rather than just making it your pact boon . Cause then it will always feel tied to the original pact with your patron

    This system has so much promise I really can't wait for it to be out. My feedback is that I don't know where the wizard sigil magic comes from in a fantasy trope. I get that you have created something brand new, which is awesome and creative, but to win over D&D players certain classes like wizard will need to look familiar enough. My request, nay, my plea, is that the sigil system be made more flexible and work in something like the arcane focus (e.g wizard's staff) into it as an alternative. Perhaps in that case the sigil effect works the same (cost, duration etc) but is centered on the focus item and moves with the wizard. The difference between a ground sigil and an item one would be that a ground one can be used by other casters, which is cool. In any case I think the sigil system needs more discussion and thought. Thanks for reading!

    Not that you're looking for assistance, but it might be better to break up exhaustion into smaller bites such as weakened, tired, lethargic. Your feature that recovered exhaustion on a short rest obtained from That feaure, implementation wise that seems clunky to keep track of, maybe tired and lethargic recovers on short rests inherently, while exhaustion and weakened recover on long rests. And maybe multiple instances or a lesser short rest condition evolves into long rest condition, whether set amount, (3 lethargic = 1 exhausted) or maybe as your character grows in power their tolerance of short rest conditions increase making it more difficult for short rest conditions to devolve into worst long rest conditons. It's also an easy way to refer to things being either a short rest condition, long rest condition, or a curse(something cured by special means and thus is permanent until cured)

    I see some DnD 4e design here and I like it! "Bloodied Condition" - "Spend Rest Points in Combat"... That seems influenced from 4e Healing Surges.... and I LOVE IT... 4e was disliked mostly from rumors and too many changes from what people where familiar with... sure it had it's problems but every game has it's problems. And now... 4e is the ruleset that people plunder for goodies to add to their own game! PF2e and 5e actually have a lot of 4e DNA in it that people love but don't realize that it came from that "bad game" that they never played lol... MCDM is heavily inspired by 4e... and I'm happy to see some of what was birthed in 4e make it into DC20 :) Sorry for the ramble, I have a soft spot for 4e... to me 4e is like a bullied child and that just makes me want to care for it... 4e isn't as bad as people say it is... in fact, it's actually a really cool game that allows you to do really cool stuff!

    NEED FEEDBACK!
    So I’m loving that the Cleric can be holy or evil divinity! In my TTRPG, Clerics are empathic beings that have a constant internal battle within themselves & their souls. Instead of worshipping 1 deity, you are a lower divine being paving your own path using a ‘Pathline’ system. The more evil deeds you do - the further the pathline goes down evil (stopping use of holy abilities the further down the evil pathline you go); same if you do good deeds like curing allie’s, your pathline would begin to go more holy.
    My question is, what would a good Class name be for this? Cleric just doesn’t seem to fit as they are not forced aligned to a specific (or any) deity. It’s all eternal conflict of morality (think of ‘Fable’), the more holy you are, the more you glow until you gain your halo - if you’re going down the evil path, you begin to have shadow smoke emanating from your skin until you gain your horn’s. Any ideas for a Class name? - Thank you in advance! 😊

    Not bad. I dig the alternative mechanics. The Sorc seems interesting. The wizard sigil seems like a 4e/WoW kind of effect. I might have to look more into this because while ad&d 2nd and 3.5 were just not as fun, 5e is just lacking in caster uniqueness.
