  • Vertical gardens, or green walls, have become quite popular-both indoors and out-but there has been a lot of experimentation on what are the best-performing ones over time. In this episode of "Plant One On Me", I pay a visit to Hort Park in Singapore, to see nine green walls to see their construction and analyze how they're holding up over time!

    What I love most about your posts is you use the Latin names and not just the common ones. Much appreciated Teresa. 🇬🇧

      @@summerrayneoakes yes from isle of Wight England. Always been a stickler for Latin names less confusion that way. Well usually. We have a small botanic garden in Ventnor 10 minutes from where I live if your ever over try to come to the island and visit it . Love your stuff and Kippie of course have pet rabbit and all bedding etc great for adding to compost bin. Book great also 👍👍🐰😺🌴

    You are so fortunate (I'm sure combined with lots of lifestyle engineering) to be able to travel to these fantastic corners of the world and explore the tropical plant cultures there. And, we as your audience are so fortunate that you're sharing a taste of that with us!

    Summer, I love your tee. It cutely reflects your specialties, plants and insects. :) Speaking of which, I felt like I also heard my nature-lover Russian friend in you (also a scientist but with different specialisation) when you mentioned about humidity and the sun being perfect for the prolific growth of various lovely tropical plants. It is bec. I also hail from SEA . Despite the heat and humidity, my heart feels happy and comfortable in here. But what I couldn't tolerate are the pesky mosquitoes. Those planning to travel in SEA, it's the rainy season and if ever, protect yourselves from disease-carrying mosquitoes.

    One of my fav places to go. There's a beautiful jambu tree where the aglaonema is. When it's fruiting, thousands of jambu will fall to the ground!
    There are a few nature parks around Singapore and they're not man-scaped like the famous ones in the city fringe area. U can still find valuable herbs which the world isn't aware of, wild rambutan, jackfruit, breadfruit, and precious ancient old durian trees.

    I had not lost that memory, hopefully you had seen a "void" green wall and it is up to you to fill it. (I think it is in an house you visited.) Those on this video are representation of a lot of things. One can be an heart wall. One a dottted one, One of "special" plants (converted to various specied for biodiversity) one is the rais of the sun, one are a diagonal lines to remember a route. and so on. What a memories in the 2 special doors on the green kingdom... and the smile... well not only throught flowers... :) I am happy you saw this one also.

    It's very interesting to see people from colder climate love our garden so much. For us, these growths are too normal and sometimes annoying. Most of the time we just let a piece of land undisturbed and after a couple of months it becomes a breeding ground for snakes and probably tigers too 😂😂

    4:30 …that’s cool, I never thought to use _Pedilanthus_ in a vertical setting! Succulents, yes, as many Crassulaceae produce aerial roots, but I never thought of that genus in particular. They can get so tall, especially _P. bracteatus_ of course… although that one to the right of the frame looks like _P. tithymaloides_ 'Devil’s Backbone' variegata, I think?

    Go to Bogor Botanical Garden in West Java Indonesia.

    I live in South Florida see more tropical stuff in the ground around my neighborhood than this whole garden, including rare rainforest palms. Ruling out the entire northern hemisphere seems incorrect?

  • @jayshko
    @jayshko 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Singapore *is* in the northern hemisphere. And you can find cold climates with low light in the southern hemisphere and on the equator as well 🤦🏽‍♂️ The word “hemisphere” has nothing to do with what you’re trying to say here and you use it in the wrong way in so many videos!
