Stabilizer mode 2 is for when you are tracking your subject by panning (changing the direction the camera is pointed) DURING the shot. (stills or video). Stabilizer mode 1 is for when there is no panning intended during the shot. Basically, keep it on mode 1 unless you are shooting video, or you want to achieve a photo where the subject is sharp, but the background is motion blurred.

Thank you. This info was very helpful.
Just got my lens. Thanks for the quick information.
How are you liking it ? I just got mine today and will be shooting high school football Saturday with it.
THANKS - JUST PURCHASED AND THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL.
Just purchased this one and I really like it
It seems I get faster focus when shooting sports if I have the stabilizer turned off. Has anyone else noticed this? By far, my favorite lens to use!!
thankyou for the quick lesson
stabilizer mode 1 or 2, 2 is best for video and 1? Well, 1 is best to keep it a secret....what a turkey.
He doesn't know. He threw away the manual and can't remember if he read that part.
Mode 1 for normal stabilisation
Mode 2 for panning shots like cars and bikes
Either for photo and video
I made this video for my film students and I've never seen a difference in the stabilizer mode. Best to experiment.
No harm was done to this lens in this video. ❤
