Nata a Dallas nel 1991, Jazzmeia Horn è cresciuta in una famiglia molto religiosa. E infatti il suo primo approccio al canto è legato alla Chiesa, con il gospel. Nonostante il nome profetico (è proprio il suo), la scoperta del jazz per Jazzmeia arriva solamente negli anni della high school. Trasferitasi a New York nel 2009, sviluppa una vocalità che attira presto l’attenzione: sembra la perfetta incarnazione moderna delle grandi dive che hanno stabilito il canone della jazz song. Inizia quindi a essere convocata da leader del livello di Billy Harper, Delfeayo Marsalis, Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein, Johnny O’Neal, Vincent Herring, Kirk Lightsey, Frank Wess, Ellis Marsalis, Winard Harper, Junior Mance.
Nel 2013 si aggiudica il primo posto nella Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition, mentre nel 2015 vince la vera lotteria per ogni aspirante musicista jazz: la Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition. Questa affermazione le dà la possibilità di incidere A Social Call (Prestige, 2017): all’improvviso il suo talento viene rivelato alla scena internazionale.

I just saw Jazzmeia Horn perform a few days ago in Pittsburgh, US. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen; her whole ensemble are incredible performers and Jazzmeia herself is truly something else.
