Roger Federer... the greatest of all time... Not because of his stats, but also because of how he plays, and how well liked he is. He did for tennis what Jordan did for basketball.
@@ijump-bounce2283 What's the point of this comment? Whoever is GOAT should not strictly be about stats. There are so many other factors to determine who's GOAT. Stop being a hater.
@@unowen7591 It was always about stats when Federer was ahead of Djokovic and Nadal, now that Djokovic surpassed both it's about being the most humble and about not breaking racquets and about beautiful shots making. Djokovic has the best backhand in the world, one of the most consistent forehand on tour, the best mental in clutch moments, and that made him the GOAT, where was i even a hater there ? Did i said Federer is a loser or did i called him Frauderer like many do ? No, i just respect facts and logic, i love Federer, but i don't like when peopoe try to find subjective arguments to consider him the GOAT when all that mattered before was the 310 weeks at #1 and the 20 GS. Djokovic leads every main stats there is, you can't be the GOAT when 2 people are ahead of you, simple.
Most people think the best of Federer came in 04-07 some think the same about 2017 and I can't blame them but I think the best Federer was in 2011 and 2012 season because of the perfect mix in his game: athleticism, technique, skill, experience, magic touch etc. To me that Federer was/is more enjoyable than 04-07 and 17. The 11-12 Federer just screamed class. He reached perfection those years but unfortunately he was hampered by the back problems. Time kicked in and he lost some of his athleticism but he covered it with the new racket but it's not the same, it never was. I'm just glad that I enjoyed watching most of his matches from 2011 and especially 2012 with the awesome white racket. Still remember the excitement of that years like it was yesterday.
Very interesting opinion, you're certainly one of the very few people for whom 2011 and 2012 Federer was better than 2004-2007 and 2017. Although i feel and understand your passion behind this opinion, i personally am inclined to disagree a bit. I agree that Roger's game in 2011 and 2012 was more nuanced than 2004-2007 but better, i don't think so. 2012 was a great year for Roger, filled with a lot of accomplishments, especially coming after a 2011 which from January till September was Djokovic's year, whether we like it or not. Roger finished 2011 in high fashion with 3 consecutive titles, but for the rest of that year, his game was a bit shaky, imo. 2008 and 2011 were the years in which Roger's otherwise mental toughness began to crack. In those 2 years, Roger lost a lot of games that he should have won. This trend started in 2010 for him, actually. 2010 Wimbledon with Berdych, 2010 French Open with Soderling, 2010 US Open with Djokovic, 2011 Wimbledon with Tsonga, 2011 US Open with Djokovic, even the 2011 French Open final, are all games Roger could have won. I personally think that his 2011 French Open was the best FO in his career in terms of gameplay, which was of a higher quality than in 2009 when he won it, funny enough. He began that final with the right approach and tactics. People tend to forget that he almost blew Rafa away in that first set, but when Rafa overturned it and took it from him, Roger slipped back into his usual demons concerning playing Rafa on clay for the rest of the match. Rafa began to shatter his confidence in 2008 and Djokovic extended that even further in 2011. With the exception of that French Open match with Djokovic in 2011, Roger's year was pretty low packed, if we judge by the stands he himself set until then. Pushing 30 is a big milestone in the career of any professional athlete and Roger was no exception. It's that age in sports where you are officially past your prime, and that is very difficult to handle and accept mentally. When Roger came to terms with that and accepted it, he started playing more freely and has enjoyed new and outstanding successes, see 2014, 2015 and especially 2017 and 2019. For this year, i think Roger will come out one last time with guns blazing and shock everyone. I see him winning 3 or 4 titles this year if he's 100% healthy and i strongly think that he can win at least another GS before he retires.
@@andreim.5324 Yes you are right but I didn't care about the results that much (although he reclaimed n.1 in 2012 which people tend to forget and he did all that with back problems). Yes Rafa was a mental problem for him Novak not so much not until 2015(mentally).
They were all peak Federer, from what I saw I'd say that 2012 fed had the best forehand of his career. While the 04-07 was probably at his best in confidence and physical strength (also unreal forehand). But I personally loved also 2014/2015 fed as well with the backhand starting to fire more and a lot of serve and volley/chip and charge from edberg coaching. In those years he would beat anyone, he only lost to Novak in most important matches, even though he was able to beat him in many other occasions.
@@francescodecio4334 I think that the 04-07 forehand had more raw power (the courts were faster too) and the 10-12 was more pace and racket speed. He always had the perfect technique. It just shows how Federer can adapt and improve even his best shot after everything he has achieved. At the end of the day maybe it's just about age and saving energy but who cares as long as it is effective and looks awesome. I liked the chip and charge and SABR points from 2015 too but I think it takes a little bit of of Federer's style.
Al di là della differenza tecnica tra i due, qui si vede proprio la differenza tra un campione ed un ottimo giocatore. Federer giocava per vincere e si vedeva nell'impegno che ci metteva, Fognini sembrava facesse un match di allenamento
Fognini played some great shots, just couldn't find enough of them. Whereas RF's running passing shot is a deliberate action, it's worth watching Fognini's face when he manages to hit a shot on the run - mild surprise if it goes in :) :) I like Fognini, he's a good player and a cool head. It must have been really tough playing Roger Federer, you knew it was going to be really hard, but you had to try....
