1 - 0:24 - First non-stimulant to be approved for ADHD by the FDA (2002, and became generic in 2017)
2 - 0:52 - Effective against ADHD. Strattera works on every 5-7 people on average. Stimulants = 2-4 (works for more people). This makes Strattera is a second option for most people.
3 - 2:29 - Most people tolerate Strattera more than the stimulants. Because it has less side effects overall after 2-5 weeks
4 - 3:25 - Possible suicide-risk for kids and young people (2008 study showed 0,37% hightened risk and another 0%)
5 - 4:34 - Is usually dosed by weight. The focus is the find the lowest dose with the most/enough effect to avoid side effects (Some need more or less than average). It can take 12 weeks to get full benefits of the dose.
6 - 5:25 - Breaks down in the liver. Fluxetine and other drugs can block the breakdown and give side effects. A dose of 50% less than usual of Strattera is recommended to start with.
7 - 6:13 - Helpful for people with ADHD + Anxiety but usually not effective for people with ADHD + Depression

I totally understand the fear of having suicidal ideation on medication. Personally, I had such a reaction with extended release Adderall. However you have to also consider your risk of having suicidal ideation from not having adhd treated. A lot of psychiatric medications have suicidal ideation as an extremely rare but possible reaction, but in cases where a person with adhd has comorbidties (ie anxiety depression etc, which is very common) treatment can definitely reduce suicidal thoughts and depression, which are worsened by adhd symptoms.
When I was first put on Strattera, i was given strict guidelines to tell my friends and family to be on the lookout for signs of depression and sudden mood changes, given my bad reaction to XR adderall. And in combination with zoloft for my treatment resistant depression my symptoms were slowly but majorly improved. Along with my concentration and brain fog/scatter brain.
I hope this comment gives you some food for thought about weighing your treatment options (talk to your doc also) And I wish you the best

She already had me try bupropion and it mad my adhd symptoms worse, i had an extremely hard time sitting still for anything. Do you think straterra would be beneficial in my case?

I just started 40mgs of of strattera today and I also take 20mg of prozack once in the morning. My Doctor told me it's ok to take strattera with my prozac in the morning. But your saying prozac is not good to take with strattera. And the pharmacy I go to said it's ok to take prozac and strattera together in the morning. So who is right is the main question???

I have been taking Adderall as prescribed for 16 years and now I got cut off because I used THC. Strattera gave me suicidal thoughts and now my doctor wants to try Clonidine. If it doesn’t work, I’m going to start buying adderall or meth off the street. I know that stimulants work well for me.

Greetings. First, thank you for your video. I am pretty much sure you will not answer my question but still I am being very grateful for your job. In conclusion, i made up this kind of plan:
    1. Starting dose is 20 mg to minimise any side effect. 2-4 weeks before 40.
    2. I hope 40 mg will be the main dose. If not enough, 2-4 weeks and 80 mg.
    3. If still there are any side effects - I split the dose on 2 doses morning and evening.
+ I have to use it after food and if there any side effect I should not cancel it until they pass.
    2 questions:
    1. Sport - I train 6 days/week. 3 days - intensive training. Will there be any problems?
    2. Diet - no coffee, more vitamins?

    I’m getting anxiety from strattera

  • @genji7536
    @genji7536 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I use this more when i actually need it like for anxiety or tiredness, sometimes it resets the brain and then i lower from 40mg to 25mg my own doses work immediately. Under directions as presribed dont work for my type of metabolism. I also get extreme insomnia on and off this drug. So then i got days where i do not take, and just take my ritalin as needed. You dont have to stick to one drug if it doesnt work for days you need to concentrate. There is no miracle all in one drug but its the only one i found with no side effect when getting off strattera, you just cant combine any stimulant or none stimulant drugs with many others together. Herbals work okay for strattera as for ritalin you have to strictly keep clean metabolism for 8hr or 3hr releases. Sometimes I get horrible IBS from taking ritalin at stronger dose since amphetamines give horrible mental side effect, most active compounds will give you the runs or susceptible for IBS, strattera on a really desperate time has helped with that because I get anxiety after an IBS flare up, so it can be used for multiple purposes it's just handy to have.
