I'm a lens design engineer at Leica Geosystems (not Leica camera). I guess, my colleagues of Leica Camera would get sick about that sacrilege, you committed with their lens and the tape 😂😅. But hey, it worked pretty well, so good job 👍! We lens designers can learn sometimes from you hands-on guys. Thanks for sharing this video, I appreciate!
Update. After watching your video here I had an epiphany, lol. I used your electrical tape idea with a 46mm UV filter, now I can screw on magnifier lens and ND filters, all from stuff I already own for my Olympus E-M5. Thank you for the inspiration!
veramente geniale complimenti veramente bravo !! posso utilizzarlo anche per fare riprese sotto l 'acqua ? potrei inserire il filtro sopra il case underwater ?
Ya it has 150fps with the one inch sensor. And 200fps with the 4k mod and 100fps with the 360 mod. Also they have a really cool AI slow mo effect check this out - th-cam.com/video/CNb8FapylLc/w-d-xo.html
This is a great idea for insta360/third party to adopt... The have the bare bone inter changeable lens modification out... But for most cases IMO they should do a screw on lens options... Either for zoom or macro... Nice job I hope insta360/third party creator sees this and make something incredible
@@LukeEdwin I can't wait to get the bare bone 1" mod... 1 think or than the bare bone video... This is the 1st time I've seen really nice bokeh on an "action camera"...
Really cool idea. There are, though, some really strange shadow artifacts around distant objects at 2:02, 2:16, and pretty dramatic at 2:52 and 3:40. Almost like double-exposure outlines. Is this the Vivid profile? HDR? Maybe just sub-par glass? Can't quite figure out what's going on there.
Because it shows most in high-contrast transitions, I want to say it's related to HDR, but it looks more like a "Bokeh Gone Wild" VHS tape. :) Maybe double check Normal color profile and view the MP4 outside of Studio, see if it repros? Studio does do some goofy processing sometimes, even just in the viewer, that isn't there in the raw file. Not a complaint or criticism, I'm genuinely curious.
Awesome thinking out of the box! There are some DIYs out there for making silicone parts out of cornstarch and chalking that may be better than down and dirty electrical tape
GREAT HACK!!!! I have the twin edition but am now seriously considering getting the 1inch on Amazon’s Black Friday deal. It’s the 49mm we need? Now I wish there was a way to attach all my filters I use on my Canon dSLR...
Do you know if there are new solutions for these macro lens for insta360 one r/rs? Maybe one that doesn't require any tape to be mounted on the camera? However that's a smart solution, thank u for showing it to us!
When you're using the macro lens, does it change the focal distance to a fixed position? For example, the drone shots you're showing, is that still with the macro lens attached or off?
That's pretty cool. I wonder if I could 3D print an adapter to replace the electrical tape. Do you need to keep the original lens protector with the macro filter?
@luke You are the best! I'm looking for something like this... I Think I can make adapter for Insta+Filter with my 3d printer. If you want I can send you file later. How do you mke so great colors/picture quality? Do you record with LOG or standard colors?
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying my videos. That would be cool but I don't have a 3d printer. I record in either vivid mode or regular. And then I usually do a bit of color correction in post.
@@LukeEdwin Hold-up. Your link goes to a set of 4 lenses. So the +1 diopter one takes you straight to 6inches focusing distance? Also, these are 49mm threads... I saw that your link for the Go Pro ones were 52mm threads.. can't the 52mm ones fit on the Leica Mod?
Is there a way to fit the Hero Max protective lenses onto the One R dual lens mod? I want to get the extended battery for the One R but also want to keep the dual lenses protected
I’m hoping you get this but in was wondering if I were to use a 46mm lens if that would be to small and end up having lines in the shot. Or if it would’ve fine still
Hi Luke, do you have a video on the best settings for the 1 inch mod... to many of my vids on the 1inch mod either look rubbish or there is some sort of issues in the sky... I’m really disappointed with this camera to date!! It must be me and the settings I’m using.. can you help... I typically shoot in auto as this is a action cam you, quickly grab the cam when needed.. what about exporting maybe I’m using the wrong settings? And there is a better way
Question, Tried looking at comments no one asked of it. Does adding the close filter affect the infinity focus. Is it just usefully for only macro shots? Do I have to remove filter if I have to capture wide scenes?
Wild hack. Did you mention filter size? Curious, do you edit 1” video using an iPhone? I use an 8 plus, and although insta360’s site says my phone is compatible, the truth is, it isn’t, even their tech support has said such to me. Videos buffer, start and stop every 1 second or so. Once exported out of 360 app, either to iPhone camera roll or iMac desktop, jerkiness goes away. Subbed!
I left a link to it in the description but it was 49mm. I usually edit on pc but I have used my Android (galaxy S10) and it worked perfectly, no pausing or anything, it was really smooth. Have u updated the app and also your phone recently?
Hi. I just bought an insta360 1-inch and sadly found out about the 90 cm (35.5 in) minimum distance. All my filming will be 43-58 cm (17-23 in), well, let's say 38-64 cm (15-25 in) just to be safe. Would you still recommend the same filter in your video or a different one?
O no bummer. I actually mentioned that minimum focus distance in one of my reviews of this camera. No I wouldn't recommend this filter. This filter makes it so it will only focus 4 inches away and no further.
thx for this! I wish they would make a macro that fits, since obviously the 360 1 R can work dual function when it's used with or WITHOUT the macro. They ought to make one that fits, and advertise it that way too. " A camera that action ready, also close up macro crystal clear!".Who knows when you're swimming under water, maybe you'll find pearls you need to switch to the macro on. :)
I would really enjoy a macro lens with close focal distance for my pets. I live on a boat that has geckos. They don't eat much, are very quiet and never approach me for a tummy rub. They enjoy peanut butter and sometimes cheese. Would like to catch them in a feeding frenzy.
Go check out some of the other crazy things I've done with my 360 cameras - th-cam.com/play/PL-J6Ug1HG8QLwCbKUmBI7c3bOi-nLNTlw.html

The macro magnifier filter comes in +1, 2, 4 and +10 Diopters - which do you use? Great hack btw!
The 2 most powerful ones like 10 and 4 or what ever the most powerful ones are

Great video. Great idea. Now I need to buy one of them one inch mods...
would that make it possible for you to use it as a vlogging camera with a background bokeh?
Maybe with a different macro lens the is less than 10X this one focuses way to close to us for vloging

Sorry I don't know what's going on with that. I always leave it on auto as wall. Have you updated the firmware on the camera recently?
insta360 should really make a lenscap for the 1-inch mod so that every 50mm lens filter in the world works with it.
That would be amazing!
I couldn't find a 50mm mod. I did find this mod that allows for MFT and C mount lenses. www.back-bone.ca/product/bbinsta-1m/
You can buy it eBay, a fellow TH-camr is 3d printing. I bought one works perfect with all filter system 👍😊
