Ken I know you are not familiar with Allison boats but it should be noted they have the best build quality and use the best materials in the industry. They have the strongest transoms made in a bassboat and are hydro and aerodynamically more advanced in design then any other bassboat made. The handling and running characteristics of this boat are superb, there is so much that could be said beyond basic layout and storage etc.. Forgot to mention this is the most fuel efficient 20' + bassboat hull made hands down.
You don't just trim it up and hang on , iit takes time yes it is easier to drive a Bullet IMHO but which can tote the mail in rough water and obviously better fuel consumption? folks drive Allisons because folks can drive Allisons. Also to caveat on the build quality and touch on your question the texture you mention at 19:00 is there to add rigidity to the hull and is the same on all the kevlar no rot Allisons to my knowledge my first Ally an 89 XTB21 held up pretty good in 30+years I can't post a pic but Allison isn't equaled in quality and performance as Darris' is for boats Werner bon Braum was for Rockets
@@olebubusmc Absolutely right! Nobody builds a boat better than Allison. There would be no pad V bass boats if it weren’t for Darris Allison. No chopper guns, every ounce of laminate is hand laid.
@@KenSmithFishing I have not driven an Allison bassboat but I did own an Allison sport boat (SS-2000) for 8 years. Once you set it up properly and get some seat time it is like on rails (almost so you could drive with one hand on the wheel). I did about 98mph with a Mercury 200xs in a four seat boat! I have some clips here on youtube at those speeds and virtually no correction on the wheel... th-cam.com/video/Snz8wVPm2KE/w-d-xo.html Since I have taken up fishing again I am looking into an Allison XB-21... Thank you for reviewing!
The top cap is all Glass with textured gel coat. When a co-angler or non owner puts his nasty shoes on the gunnel it does not leave any scratches/blemishes. The textured gel is harder to clean but is the most durable I have ever witnessed in a boat. I have had mine up to 86.1mph with two big dudes loaded very heavy and 30+ gallons of gas and oil. Last year I got chased off of Sam Rayburn by an oncoming storm, I was doing 85.0 by myself loaded, plus dual Power Pole Blades. 250 Sport XS 2 stroke 28 pitch Bravo I.
Ken Smith, Woody's wax is the best. It is a little expensive but goes a very long ways. Wash the boat as usual and use a soft bristle brush to apply the Woody's wax to get it worked into all of the small crevices. It keeps it very easy to clean thereafter for a good long period of time.
Allison is made 20 minutes from me. Bullet is 20 minutes the other direction. We like fast boats here is Tennessee apparently. Always been really well made boats.

@@KenSmithFishing it wasn’t really the 100mph that I liked it was the fact that when we ran around in practice together the boat didn’t use half what my boat did at 55. 100 mph boats get great mileage at 55.

I would also recommend you contact Trace Greer from Mallard Marine to get a better understanding of this boat. Thanks again for the time you take to make these videos . Regards Michael
Ken that textured area on the top cap is actually gel coat not plastic, my ‘96 has the same textured area and looks as it did the day it came out of the plant. Well made machines forsure.
I put my two trolling motor batteries in the center compartment of my Nitro 482 I had (no jack plate 135 HP) and was able to reach it's highest speed and really liked the way it trimmed out. I didn't leave them there as the compartment wasn't designed to hold two heavy batteries.
This is the winner IMO. Don't understand why they have a torquemaster in there. That's boat calls for a sporty and should get 90+ with tourney load. And I own a Bullet... If you're going to have a bad day on the water, at least have fun getting there and back. And Allison's hold their value WELL! No cookie cutter can say that.
Ken have you fished out of a Legend 211? Triton HP, Pheonix 721 ? It fished in that size category however it fishes wider than other wide decks because of rod placement. You can move your deck rods back. Great concept. I think you need to really fish from the deck a day or two. You be surprised. The came out of a Ranger z22, skeeter i class 21 and a legend 211 to name a few . I really didn’t feel a deck space loss especially. When you are two inches on each side being the major difference.
A Flowrite (brand) remote drain plug is an aftermarket item available (and actually what's used in many factory available options). Installation may be a pain simply because of getting access to the drain plug area in the bilge. Any dealer should be able to install this, and some DIY guys could do it without difficulty. One was added to my Ranger at a later date as it wasn't a factory option for the year model of my boat.
Bought our Allison GSE from Key Pucket in 2013...Foot for foot Darris and the crew make the best boats on the water. 👍 BTW we live on Lake Erie in Western NYS, it was well worth the TX trip.
Man I have ALWAYS wanted to have an ALLISON CRAFT BASS BOAT... I have 6 very intensely managed ponds on my property in North Georgia that I am growing trophy sized L.M.B. and other exciting species of game fish as well as a catfish pond with all 3 of the larger growing catfish species so that people can bring their kids and that's accessible for handicapped ♿ people so they can come fish for free too... I have spent my boat money on helping the next generation of people learn about fish and how to catch them when you go fishing for them...
The textured interior is not plastic and does not deteriorate. It's gel. I have a 1995 xb-2003 and it's still looks like it came out of the showroom...I use it year-round.
Do you have to start correcting for chine walk at a certain speed? Im looking to ourchase anew boat and want a fast one but dont necesarliy want to be fighting it the whole time. If i could run 80-82 with no chine walk i would be happy.
@@michaelsutherland9069 Yes. In the 70's it started to walk but once you learn it is second nature. You wont be fighting it. My understanding is all boats have to be driven if you are in the 80's. You are going to get chine no matter what brand because of so much hull out of the water.
I have had a couple of Allisons and still have one. The waves do slap against the front part of the hull and make noise. Construction is second to none. The inside liner holds up fine. My trailer winch is different configuration than this boat. These boats take more seat time than Bullets but go faster. Easy to get to $100,000 with electronics power poles etc
Good review so far Ken! I think some more time could be spent on this boat due to the unique nature of it. I've been in a few Allison's lately since I'm currently doing my own research for a new boat, and despite the speed reputation, its quite an awesome fishing rig ! Can't wait to see the scoring on it ! Please be sure to point out that the interior of the boat is fiberglass, not plastic, and some of the other awesome features that most do not know about, like the skid planer, aluminum grid transom supports, 5" channel frame trailer, etc ! Love the channel and series!
Hi Ken I appreciate your channel and truly I wish the boat you were reviewing was set up a bit more for your review and I wish you had a serious of full time tournament pro run you through the more specific points of this boat. I have had the benefit of running many many hulls and if I was to simply take the hull of the XB21 and run it through several true performance categories the hull would out perform the regular production models significantly (especially after seated time). Less the top end. The hull just requires seated time (running it for a weekend ) and learning to bump the trim gets you pass the learning curve faster. The hull turns better than any other hull I have ran. It bites and locks in and you can make those turns faster. The mid range speed and acceleration is ahead of the pack when prop'd correctly. At rest the hull is stable much more stable than some narrower and wider platforms. This is the most fuel efficient bass hull in the 20ft -21 range in the industry. 0 to 60 in this hull is pure joy, being nimble and responsive (some of this is acquired after some seated time). I found it interesting you took the measurement of the front deck from behind the bike seat. All measurements I have taken have been from behind the foot pedal. As this is where your foot placement occurs ( I like to call it 'the station'). You step, rest, change foot position in this area. I believe that area is approx 49.6 inches about the same as the ol HP triton, 700 series bird (Pheonix ), and the Legend (very popular and no longer in production). Co Angler arrangement is different by very achievable. For example, removing the fire extinguisher and utilizing the ramp allows 3 or 4 rods by your feet (similar to standard placement) The rod butts simple rest on the ramp and that rod strap (that is used to cradle the extinguisher now cradles the rod butts). Fishing from this boat can be extremely effective as it moves through the water on the trolling motor much more efficiency. The wind protection is the best in the biz, it is clearly evident with one ride. Seating low and to center actually places in a safer position whether running 20 mph or 80. The wrap stile bucket seats lock you in. As you are aware more seating is taken on this configuration. The potty is versatile . Simple no ladies, no folk with medical conditions requiring this accommodation means you just gained the best trash receptor ( for all that line, used plastic bait, candy wrapper, water bottles so on (load it up and dump it when your day ends). The starboard rear storage can hide a man 6 ft 200 lbs. The nose of the boat has a handle making it easy to direct your boat. The horn speaker is actually at the nose of the boat like it should be instead of in or around the cock pit. Now for rough water, once you get the seated time running this boat in rough chop will shock you. If you ever get a chance measure the actual keel and degree of "V". The entry (bow) is great but the "V" and keel are excellent. It is one of the softest rides in a bass hull you can imagine. You can run stable in 1 to 2 wave faces faster in this hull. The bottom of this rigid hull cuts the waves. Handling in rough water is excellent! And when you are stuck out there climbing wave faces (if propped correctly) it's easy. Also a small note front deck rod placement is actually arrange further back on the deck. On the starboard there is a giant tube where you can put 3 combos increasing the space near your feet. I truly appreciate and respect your work , Gosh I just wish you could have been with someone on this review. Anyway respectfully, thank you for your take on the hull. Hopefully you have another opportunity to really get to this boat, and the company. Allison is rich in innovation, industry firsts and unique advancements. Take Care.
Great response I have a 2020 lynx with a 300 and a 2021 Allison Xb 21 with a 250R there is no comparison between the two. The lynx was a disappointment for me. Guess opinions vary regards Michael
Good stuff there, I measured at the seat hole since that's about where the second guy normally stands when we team fish. The boats performance is fun and interesting, I'd love to have more seat time in it and in the Bullet to compare them, the Bullet had a 300R on it, and in these high performance boat the more HP the easier they are to drive in the 78-83 mph range. That said as Michael said in his comment to yours different strokes, or as we say "Ginger or Mary Anne"?
That toilet seats is for when your co anglers shit his pants from the take off to your first spots. 😂 just playing but good review and I think that toilet is a good idea.
@@timroyall6513 reminds me of the guide on Toledo Bemd that had a lady get in a bind on the lake. She asked "where do I go to potty?" He said (thinking it was #1) in the livewell is fine and looked forward. Found the #2 later!😂
Are you guy’s thinking about expanding to different circuits? I fish the TTO which is another circuit in Texas and would love to compete for some contingency money next year.
After i hit the mega million.. tournament boat blazer 650 every simple, easy work on, handles and rides really good. Go fast bass boat 105+ mph Allison xb21 with 350r or bullet 21ss 350r 😂. Luxury bass boat that you just cruise around and fish with the wife, vixus 21.
the biggest issues I think are the lack of redundancy with the livewells aeration and the split single. The seats are too low can be raised. It is the smoothest riding boat ias it's V bottom is the sharpest and deepest of any bass boat. It feels like a single sponson catamaran in rougher water. Too bad you have a slick calm day. You and your partner are completely protected in bad weather during a run. Front deck is really tight. This is a race boat turned into a fishing boat. Construction is top notch .You have to drive it when running but you can have a conversation even at 92 MPH. Good Job keepm comin. .$02
Best rough water boat I’ve ever been in and that comes from riding in one the Great Lakes. Wave height? Big the kind where you can’t see over the next one.
@@KenSmithFishing hey I’ve been looking around also trying to find the weight on the vexus vx20 and I absolutely cannot find it anywhere 😂 you would think someone has at least gone to a truck weigh station and figured it out by now but nope.
But as Nick from Mercury Racing talks about in our prop video series, if you aren't at or near WOT the TM is both faster and more efficient than the SM. So like with my last boat I was WOT 1.1% of the hours on the boat. So 89.9% of the time I would have had a slower and less efficient lower unit in the water with a Sporty than a Torque.
@@KenSmithFishing that would be correct on most boats. However on Allison's and stroker.......both run the propshaft above pad even while cruising. The sport master is correct for them. My stroker runs the propshaft 3"above pad and even with pad on hole shot believe It or not. I'm sure the Allison is similar. On these boats torquemasters make for a dangerous I'll handling rig.

Is all the grey interior plastic or glass? It looks like plastic. Ha I asked that hit enter and you literally answered it within 5 seconds on the video.
The back seat looked very cheap and something you would see in a 14' flat bottom. You would expect a better seat if you're spending $75,000 on the boat.
Exactly what I thought. Cheap seats unfinished rod locker at tip. Junk tackle storage. Pretty boat but im not impressed. Has some cool stuff but overall I wouldn't buy even if I had plenty of money
Seat is very nice hand made and molded. It’s a true bucket seat and truly locks you in when running or turning fast. This boat will make a U turn significantly faster than any other models (no jet ski turn or sliding turn) it turn like on rails and can do extremely fast. That’s the reason for this type of design

Put the same motor on every hull and tell me which one drives easier. That is, after you define "easier". :)
That toilet seats is for when your co anglers shit his pants from the take off to your first spots. 😂 just playing but good review and I think that toilet is a good idea.
Time saving Idea, use it while flying down the lake! :)
@@easonterra true. I had buddy who I had to drop off at restroom during tournament time. That seat would be nice during those time.
@@asianboi08 Uhm, not sure about that. Depends on how stinky your buddies crap is, lol.
Definitely unique
@@timroyall6513 reminds me of the guide on Toledo Bemd that had a lady get in a bind on the lake. She asked "where do I go to potty?" He said (thinking it was #1) in the livewell is fine and looked forward. Found the #2 later!😂
I really want one of their 2 plus 2's.
That boat is odd to my eye
Key Puckett is a great guy and used to race Allison
Agreed, good dude
That "slappy" sound is water hittn a 1300-lb hull vs a 2000 plus-lb hull
Are you guy’s thinking about expanding to different circuits? I fish the TTO which is another circuit in Texas and would love to compete for some contingency money next year.
They are open to expanding if this year winds up being a success!
Damn, this thing looks like something out of a Star Wars movie.
X-wing fighter
After i hit the mega million.. tournament boat blazer 650 every simple, easy work on, handles and rides really good. Go fast bass boat 105+ mph Allison xb21 with 350r or bullet 21ss 350r 😂. Luxury bass boat that you just cruise around and fish with the wife, vixus 21.
Kyle good that you have a plan!
@@KenSmithFishing 🤣 only way I could ever justify blowing over $250k just on bass boats
the biggest issues I think are the lack of redundancy with the livewells aeration and the split single. Good Job keepm comin. .$02
It got a little rough, you'll see in part 2
Best rough water boat I’ve ever been in and that comes from riding in one the Great Lakes. Wave height? Big the kind where you can’t see over the next one.
When are we getting part 2 !?!?!? Thanks ! great series Ken !
Wednesday of next week!
@@KenSmithFishing Link?
Like the boat, but go fast is not for me anymore. Great video, will you get a chance to finish your Vexus review?
At this point that is up to them
Waiting on the final review of the Vexus. . . When can we expect that ? Love your videos
Same as below, just have to catch a rough day when one is avialable.
@@KenSmithFishing hey I’ve been looking around also trying to find the weight on the vexus vx20 and I absolutely cannot find it anywhere 😂 you would think someone has at least gone to a truck weigh station and figured it out by now but nope.
@@KenSmithFishing why not just say, you’re not going to do the review Vs being misleading ???
That torquemaster lower should be illegal on allisons. You need the lower unit higher to get the true performance out of them.
That Brovo 1 prop is in a different league than a Fury prop…
Todd, explain man, I need info!
Evert Allison needs to come with a Sporty
I don't understand why they don't?
if i lived near one of the famous bass lakes in the US. I would totally have one. But need a deep v for erie :(
So what are the most popular rugs up there?
@@KenSmithFishing Ranger 620FS series of boats. Lund pro V 1875 or the 20 ft version. I have a Ranger 1880 angler. Tons of guys have 1880s because they are not 100k+ boats like the 620 FS series tend to be. Some guys use Center consoles in the 26-30 ft range. Dont see many Skeeters. Warrior boats are here and there.
@@Dbars19 Im on the Canadian side of the great lakes and thats all i fish. When Legend was around that Alpha 211R and even the V20 was as good as anything in the rough stuff and fast. I owed both, but you could run the Alpha in 2.5 + footers at 65 mph without blinking. Awesome rig. Up here you see tones of Ranger 522's and some 6 series.
Is all the grey interior plastic or glass? It looks like plastic.
Ha I asked that hit enter and you literally answered it within 5 seconds on the video.
I read your mind...
Allison has very little plastic in there boats. All hand made, quality is second to none.
Its textured fiberglass
Allisons are go fast boats for sure. Too fast for me, as well as too expensive. But hey if you got the cash why not?
definitely not for everybody, but some love it
That’s not finished plastic or polyurethane, it’s actually glass and resin with a leather texture.
The back seat looked very cheap and something you would see in a 14' flat bottom. You would expect a better seat if you're spending $75,000 on the boat.
uhhh, don't think you could touch this boat for $75k unless it was 3-4 years old
75k lol, lol. That boat is over 100 the way it sits!
Exactly what I thought. Cheap seats unfinished rod locker at tip. Junk tackle storage. Pretty boat but im not impressed. Has some cool stuff but overall I wouldn't buy even if I had plenty of money
The rear seat is an aftermarket seat. That is not an Allison seat.
Seat is very nice hand made and molded. It’s a true bucket seat and truly locks you in when running or turning fast. This boat will make a U turn significantly faster than any other models (no jet ski turn or sliding turn) it turn like on rails and can do extremely fast. That’s the reason for this type of design
Nice looking boat. Looks like a pain to check on your batteries and their connections if needed or change one out. That hydraulic mount for the graph is very nice. When you gonna tell us which boat you picked for yourself? Your Instagram left me hanging. Jeff
Hey guy I know, actually not bad, just unscrew that one thumb screw and slide the tray, I was surprised how easy
Digital battery gauge is standard equipment on bow. So if you are running AGM or Lithium just check connections yearly for corrosion/play.
Still waiting for part 2
Kevin sorry for the delay, up this week.
I run a 36 Volt TM on my TR186. 24 isn’t enough TM
Edward curious what motor you are running. I know a number of guys that fish hard and are running the 80# ultrex, or the Ghost on 24v is 99 #’s, and they have no problems.
@@KenSmithFishing I’ve run a 36 volt TM since the day they came out. Have an X5 Motorguide know and fish the Delaware River and a lot of electric only lakes. Pre 36 volt I had 4 TM batteries in a 361 Ranger to get the battery life I needed in heavy Current. 36 volt last all day
@@KenSmithFishing lithiums would change all that. You can run 24volt lithiums all in current without any issues.
Nick lithiums just scare me
Is a Triton review coming?
If someone in texas has a 2021 and will let me take it out
Link to part 2... ? Im too dumb too find it.
Negative your good, it’s not upbyet
Can’t wait !
...for those that like to do a little bass fishing while racing around the lake...
You got that right!
What happened to Vexus? Great work BTW!
Have had a hard time getting it to the water on a rough day, I will get it finished
A shitter! Too cool
??
We have a 2022 with 250r it will go 90
Can you review a 921 elite
Samuel same hull at the 921 I reviewed, just different cap options (a little nicer)
It's nice but I'll keep my skeeter fxr 20 with 250 SHO
Had a skeeter fox 21 not impressed with the ride thought the SHO was great
@@michaelcolacci517 that's crazy...I didn't know they made a fox 21......I would say you got one of a kind
Nothing wrong with a Texas made product!
Will you do a nitro?
Matt that and finishing up the Vexus are last two things on the list
Thanks for showing all these boats I’d never have a chance to see .. this boat is too much formed plastic for me ..
It's weird but they have their reasons they do it
That is textured fiberglass, it is NOT plastic.
Would love to see how a legend alfa and v20 compairs to your testing
He's testing current production boats. Legend boats are no longer produced
@@terrykloster9121 i realize that was only looking for numbers and advice as there isnt much out there on the ledgens.
@@jakehorton1410 I was with Legend for 5 years between 2014- 2018 when Johnny shut them down and they were one of the best made boats ive ever fished in and ive been in almost everything. The alpha 221r was my #1 choice, but the V20 was a much wider boat. Both boats have a 52 degrees dead rise at the front which means it'll cut waves better than most. Stay away from anything earlier than 2014 with the Alphas and 2016 and new for the V20. All fibreglass boats with no vinyl, plastic etc etc. I wont tell you their perfect but nothing is. I fish the great lakes exclusively and believe me when i say they are a great riding boat!
@@smallmouthmaster i have a 14 199 i love the ride hole shot and can make a 180 turn at 55mph 45 lock to lock few small things that make me want something newer. Fxr and falcon seems close maybe even a z20. But the ride is so good idk what to think
@@jakehorton1410 Thats awesome bud. I wouldnt do FXR. Falcon seem to be nice, but Im still thinking fit and finish isnt the same as a Legend. if you can find a 2017 0r 18 V20 I think you would be very happy, but just my opinion. The skeeters never hold up in the big water, but they are sharp looking boats and big decks to fish off of. If you fish smaller lakes, ya a skeeter might be good. Resale value is also something to consider!
83 84 mph cuz it’s only 1450lbs
weight do make a difference!
dude pick a boat already
