He mentions perfect movies, listing Godfather Part 2, Toy Story 2 nd says, "like David Cronenberg's Crash." And he says it off-handed as if we take this for granted. Crash was perfect? Perfect what?
I mean I know this is an older film review of a UK critic uploaded from someone who has no affiliation to Wittertainment, but anyway... I gotta disagree with the idea that the desolation at the beginning being the best part, but I also agree that the people are lazy and destroying the planet bit is a less interesting focus. What I loved was the Jack Lemmon/Shirley McLaine-esque relationship of EVE and WALL-E. It's genuinely one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a film. I'm surprised he said absolutely nothing about that. I mean, it's his review, but that's such a big part of the film, to overlook it is a bit odd.
Thank you so very muchly for posting these reviews! I love Mark Kermode and am always eager to catch his thoughts on my favorite movies. By any chance, do you have his review of Toy Story 2? I know that was his favorite movie in the Toy Story franchise.
mark kermode is always banging on about silent running!
I know!! I mean how interminably comment-worthy can a fairly pleasant comedy film about Jamaican bobsledders possibly be?
haha i love that film
I came out in tears when I saw this and I was 11
love that movie
thank you so much for posting this, you rock
Lol, Cronenberg's Crash shoutout.
Waste Allocation Load-Lifter: Earth-Class!!!

@badhead thanks for this have not heard this review for ages.
Yeah that was a strange comparison. From toy story 2, Godfather 2 too Crash! Say what
When he says "Phone home et!" he sounds like Yoda, lol
Either way, he's right. I saw the parallelism between Wall-E and Et. It's totally there.
no way toy story one is better than 2
They’re about the same overall!
Good and cute movie, but WALL-E is more like "No. 5" than ET!
I know he does that a lot, like his opinion is the definitive truth. Cronenberg's Crash ain't close to perfect haha
Mayo was a bit more annoying back then
Toy Story is very good, but it's a bit of the same stuff all over again really.
Same as what?

It's been 7 years...
