I'm a huge fan of your conversions. It's amazing how you manage to open up the space while also keep the character and charm of the original intact. IMHO the latter is what truly sets you apart on another level. You don't just rearrange everything but keep and enhance as much as possible. Also, I really loved this bigger space which shares a similar theme in terms of space restrictions.
I like how the front still looks old while the back looks thoroughly modern without any confused head scratching. Another masterful transformation, well done.
Hello Gemma. I follow you from Australia. I love reading, watching, learning about tiny homes and reimagining difficult spaces. Here in Australia, in suburbs close to the city, we have beautiful large old buildings in lovely established gardens. I am always so disappointed when they just pull them down and build another uninspiring block of 26 units. So unsustainable and huge carbon footprint. I wish I could buy them and employ you to transform the building, with clever extensions, to make multi generational and purposeful apartments - for single people, couples or families. This way the vernacular of the areas is not lost, or architectural history is not lost and building are reused and repurposed. I just see how this makes sense but it’s always about economics and profit. Anyway, I love what you do and am always sooooo excited to see another one of your designs. You are just wonderful.
@@MsForwardthinkerand another! I live in a regional town, and am seeing the beautiful vernacular buildings being removed for more featureless big city buildings when with some forethought, talented vision and consideration or the future users of the spaces, we could have some exceptional buildings to house multiple families/ generations/ and a mix of singles, share housing and communal spaces… more in keeping with the ‘country town’ ethos, and where a real village atmosphere could be nurtured… but no. Smaller plots, separate, uninspiring dwellings with massive footprints to house increasingly isolated people and no useable outdoor space. You would think that 5 decades after criticism of “little boxes made of ticky tacky, and they all look just the same…” we might have moved beyond this horrid version of suburbia. But no, our planning departments and local authorities seem to favour the estate developers who only care about the immediate profits…. I want a Gemma Wheeler derelict cottage update home.
My first impression was: This is a nightmare to even navigate never mind succeed but succeed you did, Gemma. And this was a brief this time. Hope your client loves what you came up with. [Personally not sure about wanting a tub in a bedroom - all that steam and condensation for one thing].
Lovely to see you again, Gemma, I've been missing you! I suppose this means you've been keeping busy, though, so all's well. This is a complicated puzzle that you solved with your usual grace, bringing in spaciousness and light to open up the original poky plan.
Stunning work Gemma! I am an urban planner from Germany and always very inspired by your work, also the principle of transforming the old and existing with precise modern interventions applies well to urban spaces too. In one of the current projects i am working on there are some small houses that used to be attached to the old city wall, and i believe your designs have opened my eyes so much to see a lot of potential in these. Thank you for your amazing contributions to a new way of building! You are truly a spatial genius. Much love
Gemma, I so appreciate your brain, and channel. Your ability to solve and transform architectural problems, and demonstrate it with these videos, is like a university course in gorgeous sensibility.
What a light-filled dream of a house. Amazing how dysfunctional it was before, but then along comes Gemma to transform it into this entire environment of spaces that provide peace, privacy, and ample socializing. Bravo again! I love the idea of bringing the garden closer into the view of the inhabitants via the courtyard, and the creation of the courtyard. It’s so beautiful and I hope the family is happy there. I’ve commented on this design before, but just viewed the video again, and there was just so much more to admire… this design keeps growing on me. If I had a house to redesign I would hire you in a heartbeat.
This is a phenomenal design - really a beautiful transformation! It combines a modern and very practical layout while keeping the character of the original house! I am always so amazed by your designs! Really lovely work!
All your films are stunning. Thank you for continuing to share so unselfishly - your work opens my eyes and educates me, for which I am very grateful 👍
What another fantastic artistic solution to a tricky space. I find your videos fascinating and although I am quite a visual person, I lack the imagination required to transform existing room positions. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm just surprised why channel like this doesn't have 1 million subscribers already? Such a unique and stunning designs. Thank you for sharing your amazing work Gemma
Well you've done it again Gemma, you turn this old dark and constricted abode into a gorgeous home, I was surprised that you had made 2 washer & dryer spaces, one in the kitchen and the other one in the mud room, which I thought both were in a good location.
I eagerly wait for your new episode all the time. I learn from you. I am an Architectural graduate and watching your design principles, educates and inspires me. Thank you.
I absolutely love this. I'm a fan of both modern style and old buildings and this is such a great combo. Your videos make me wish I had stuck with my architecture/interior design career. I did get to renovate (complete gut) the 200 yr old stone farmhouse my family had been in for nearly 90 years. I loved every (stressful) minute of it! It was such fun to design every single corner of the house to my own preference. That was 7 years ago and I had to sell the house to move closer to my daughter but I was proud to list it rather than selling it cheap in the condition in which I received it. Look forward to more of your videos.
Your designs are over the top, It's amazing how you are able to bring so much livable space into a building and still keep the character and energy. Love your videos and the saving of beautiful old buildings and giving them new life!
What a stunning home! I hope I can hire you to design my dream home some day! It's important to me to have a light-filled home and you are amazing at designing with that in mind.
I love your videos and your developments, including the coherent explanations. Great project. The only thing I'm not sure about is the bathtub upstairs - its drain is right in the middle of the large open space in the living room
I always love watching your videos because you come up with designs and work arounds that always blow me away! I wish I had a need to hire you because I love your philosophies behind the designs and your use of natural materials to create serene spaces!
First time on this site -- I just subscribed because your renovations are superb. I am thinking of a tiny house and there are lots of ideas now swirling around in my head ! Looking forward to the next video and over the weekend I will look at your prior uploads. Thanks!
I see Gemma, I click! Having watched it now, this is really an awkward space to begin with, isn’t it? So awkward I’m having a hard time visualizing it. You’ve done an amazing job as always. The only concern that came up for me as I watched would be how the raised section of the roof would perform in serious rain or snow. I’m not sure how much snow that area of France might get. Otherwise, yes, opening that space literally up gives so much more useable space! Creative as always!
Great thought! The client had the same question. Flat roofs when built properly are never fully flat, they’re always laid to a fall meaning they have the capacity to drain. Then it’s about careful detailing to ensure there are no weak spots and all the correct size drainage.
Absolutely lovely conversion idea! I hope your client goes ahead with it and allows you to share photos/video footage. I would love to see what your ideas look like irl!
Desks. Please add more desks to your bedroom designs. I get the allure of huge unobstructed window-walls and the large beds even for children's rooms. But a child no matter the age needs a desk. For schoolwork, for drawing, for a monitor to be placed on. Other than that: very nice conversion that keeps the important old features like the visible stone walls and fire places :)
Wow, I watch all your videos, and this has to be one of your best designs yet! I absolutely love how you reimagined the space and integrated the garden.
You truly are an artist - just brilliant. I love watching your videos and trying to guess what you will do and then being delightfully surprised by your actual plans!
Great design - looking into the bedroom from the kitchen may not be such a great idea. I love tubs. A deck tub with a screen/cover might be more practical. Cover the tub when not in use to provide seating when down and privacy when flipped up.
Absolutely love this design. Adding the extra square footage in those area really opened up the usable spaces so much! I was wondering if you could let me know what design software you use. I love the walkthrough aspect. Thanks!
So much better or hopefully it will be when built. There are too many of those long buildings in the UK. In the end we bought a relatively new house with all 4 receptions off the hall - nothing through anywhere and lots of closing doors for warmth and to be away from each other!
Excellent vision, overcoming the obstacles with this build....it's stunning, Gemma! Wished I could have been a member of the family that was to move in once the build was complete, the transformation of the interior is hard to imagine without actually seeing it. The renovations, no doubt, came with a hefty price tag, but if one has the means, this is definitely a worthwhile investment! Thank you for sharing 😊❣
I’ve watched this a couple of times now, even pausing for a lengthy time on the floor plans and am simply floored by what you did! I actually don’t think my head has fully appreciated(or understood!) it! Mind blowing! ❤
Уважаемая Джемма! Ваша работа вдохновляет меня, помогает моей работе. Столько идей для маленьких пространств! Вы просто источник знаний, спасибо вам. С любовью к профессии, из Сибири, Россия
Ohhh Gemma, this one is a show-stopper for me! How you managed to make four SUITES in that house while not giving a bit of character up is so amazing to me. I am not good at imagining something new from nothing, so I am always so impressed by how you come up with ways to live a 21st century life in often 19th century houses. I have always wanted to live in an old house like that, but there just aren’t that many here in Canada that look like these stone cottages; they are just so much more prevalent in the UK and Europe.
To be fair, this house could already be improved a lot just by painting a few walls white and using more intelligent furniture as you'd normally see them in Tiny homes.

You single-handedly convince me every video about the importance of having an architect involved on a home renovation... loved it!
Agreed...but not just any architect....❤❤❤Only this One!
ABSOLUTELY!!!

I’ll hit the like button before watching the video because I know I’m going to love it. 😊
Haha hope so!
Same!
@@gemmawheelerjust as I thought. Absolutely stunning!!!
saaaaameee LOL
me too, and never not satisfied...
That glazed kitchen and courtyard is INSPIRED and truly transformational! Kudos to you, Gemma. 👏👏
Gemma doing her magic yet again! Thanks for sharing!

Hello! Yes very busy but all with the aim of hopefully bringing these out more frequently. Thanks for being here!
A rare instance of someone doing what they were clearly put on earth to do. It’s so great to see.
Stunning transformation! I love everything but the 3 sided courtyard and the kitchen are a dream!
Not but, read: and. 💯+

Hold my calls, new GWA video just dropped
😂
I really like how you use windows in staircases to frame views to the outside almost as if it is a painting.
All your films are stunning. Thank you for continuing to share so unselfishly - your work opens my eyes and educates me, for which I am very grateful 👍
That dining room is stunning! Such a beautiful remodel.
Gorgeous! Love how the kitchen embraces the garden, esp.

Because of your designs, I am rethinking ways to include more storage in my space. Loved the views from the kitchen to the garden!

Your designs always create inviting, uncluttered and peaceful living space. Thanks for sharing.

I really love your work, the way you view the existing space and then redesign to make it so much more logical and liveable is brilliant.
I see that those amateurs that think they're 'gifted visionaries' aren't on the same level as a gifted architect 😊
your transformations are so creative! every time i'm stunned by how evident & natural they feel--like it was always meant to be like this!
You just keep getting better and better, Gemma. Thank you for sharing you working adventures.
