Ive been watching parkers reef from the early days. You have come such a long way. I love your content. Im looking forward to the episode of the grand opening
Amazing job by Michael! I will be seeing you at reeftopia but before that I will see you at Deer park I will be in Melbourne on Saturday the 2nd of September. Thanks Sam and Michael.
Thank you for the following episode! Im truly amazed at the heath and colors of his corals… just speechless. I also noticed that his tanks do not have any or very little live rocks. Is that right?
Have quite a bit of live rock dotted throughout the sump and underneath the racks. The live rock has been with us 5+ years, probably one of the most important parts of the tank setup.
I would bet that one of the elements he is dosing also has magnesium in it and therefore he's unknowingly adding magnesium, which is why he sees an apparent drop in magnesium uptake from the corals.
@@Michael_Xia what schedule are you running on the LPS/Goni tanks? Do you ever measure PAR? Curious what you are using for flow in those tanks as well. Doing an insane job!
Thanks Sam…. Fantastic two part series! I manually dose manganese & strontium based on ICP results and my Gonis have never looked better, so might start looking at the ‘Moonshine’ programme. I currently dose Aminos so very interested in studies linking it to bacterial issues. Will be keeping an eye out on Fishtopia’s store opening, might have to book my ticket for the event! Love your Chanel so come on people hit that ‘Subscribe’ button so Sam can get to 25k!!
@ParkersReef 3:02 you mentioned Michael’s running Schego heaters - are these your preferred titanium heaters? I’m sick of being worried about glass heaters breaking or malfunctioning.
@@ParkersReef Yep I noticed that, you don’t have to buy their specific controller though do you? Was thinking of using an Inkbird or Reef Factory instead. They’re also very difficult to find in Aus apparently lol
Will Reeftopia ship Australia wide? Based in vic and returned to the hobby recently, sad to realise many of the local reefers or stores I used to frequent have left the hobby for various reasons.
They sure will be. But I’d still highly encourage you to get out (in Melbourne or Sydney) and check out as many local fish stores as you can. I cover plenty of them on this channel if you want to get a run sheet before hitting the road :)
Another great video. Interesting about the Magnesium uptake. I stopped dosing trace a few weeks ago to combat a cyano outbreak and the Magnesium consumption has nearly doubled. I also found issues with too many Aminos so going light on that these days. It would be nice to be able to see those corals in person living in Sydney. Sad they're being shipped interstate.
not at all! If it suits you really depends on your aquarium and why you do water changes. Most do it to remove excess nutrients and to replenish trace elements. In Michael's case, he doesn't have excess nutrient (is actually dosing it in) and is adding all of his required trace elements daily.
@ParkersReef thank you for your reply. I have a 280 gallon glass cages reef tank, 2 year old acro tank and from the beginning after it cycled I was told I should do 30% water changes one a month and I have been afraid not to. Lol..
The best reefer you ever had on your channel.
very talented man that is for sure!
Judging by the way he grows his corals, Reeftopia is going to be a success. Wish them and yourself on your future reefing business all the best.
Couldn’t agree more!
Fingers crossed!
Corals and tanks are real nice but what I really want is to be as happy as this guy!
why wouldn't he be happy! Incredible reef tanks filled with the best corals, lovely family and living in one of the nicest places on earth!
you know its an epic lot when you need a part 2
Hahaha I know right?!
Perfect person to be opening a store! I look forward to coverage of the new store and wishing you nothing but success. CONGRATS ON 25K SUBSCRIBERS!
Thanks so much!!
I've been tempted to start the Reef Moonshiners in the past and seeing this gives me a much needed kick in the bum to actually do it.
I am sure you’ll enjoy it!
You won't regret it :)
Thanks Sam, must say my family and i are both enjoy these 2 videos. was so look forward tosee this part 2.
Glad you enjoyed it (well I hope you did!)
Awesome video and super informative. Another hit Sam
Glad you enjoyed it mate, thanks for watching :)
Cheers from the US! Keep doing what you’re doing, love the videos!
Thanks so much!!

Thanks so much, appreciate your support!
i love this series so much, thank you
I'm so glad, thanks for watching!
Good luck with the new store. Best wishes. 👏🏻💯👌🏻✌🏻
I’m sure they’ll smash it!

See you both times mate, looking forward to it!!
Look forward to it!
Nick's going to have some competition!
Nick will always have no shortage of customers, quality campaigner that one 👌🏻
Thanks for sharing. This had a lot of useful info.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Sam I never stop learning. No wonder his stuff looks so good. QL rocks!
Thanks for watching, glad you found it educational and entertaining:)
Thank you for the following episode!
Im truly amazed at the heath and colors of his corals… just speechless.

Yes not much rock at all which is an interesting observation! Certainly works just fine without it though!

Great show!
thank you!
i have a feeling michael and jo know what they are doing
You bet, incredible talent
Haha, plenty to learn still. When you think you know it all, the reefing gods strike you down!
Triton does this individualized dosing of trace elements based on ICP for years successfully
Correct!
Awesome content. Interesting about the home made food and phosphate, fresh seafood is often sprayed with phosphate to preserve it.
Great point! Thanks for watching
Very interesting! That would explain it
Congrats - wish I could order from Reeftopia
So much great info in this video ;)
Congrats on 25k!🥳
thanks so much!
Wonderful! ❤
Thank you! 😊
I would bet that one of the elements he is dosing also has magnesium in it and therefore he's unknowingly adding magnesium, which is why he sees an apparent drop in magnesium uptake from the corals.
I take it you thin Magnesium is vital :)
Awesome video, did he mention how many par of light he shoot into the tanks? Maybe i missed it :(. Thx for that content
Great question, I don’t think we did cover PAR. Hopefully Michael sees this and can respond
Thx a lot and greets from europe 🎉
Pleasure!
LPS tank is lower around 100-200 and SPS around 400-500 PAR.
LPS Tank - 4 x Hydra 52 + 4 x Hydra 64
SPS Tank - 3 Orphek Atlantik + 4 Orphek Bars
Amazing!❤
Glad you like it!
Great series. Started dosing manganese for my gonis. 🤷♂️
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope the Goni in your system love it!!
Great video! Sorry missed the part of lighting used? Also how did he make that custom railing for the lights?
Thanks in advance.
Be sure to check out the part 1 video! You can view it here: th-cam.com/video/mwpk_utJ3Sc/w-d-xo.html
Yes, the rails were custom made. In terms of lights
LPS Tank - 4 x Hydra 52 + 4 x Hydra 64

Oh and the bacterial reports about amino isn’t an official study yet, just anecdotal
@ParkersReef 3:02 you mentioned Michael’s running Schego heaters - are these your preferred titanium heaters? I’m sick of being worried about glass heaters breaking or malfunctioning.
Yep, schego are the best out there. They do cost a bit, but are bloody good
@@ParkersReef Sold thanks mate 😊
Haha they are quality, just be sure to have a controller with them as they are not built in to the schego like other heaters
@@ParkersReef Yep I noticed that, you don’t have to buy their specific controller though do you? Was thinking of using an Inkbird or Reef Factory instead. They’re also very difficult to find in Aus apparently lol

Absolutely, we will have plenty of shipping options from overnight, airport to airport & bulk shipping :)
mixing trace elements in ato , good idea ? assuming you roughly have an idea of the amount of water your tank evaporates
Not the best as it can vary your dosage day to day, plus once you mix it in your ato it’s hard to vary
@@ParkersReef okay .. so dosing manually is the best option
In the first instance yes. If you find your tank on a constant pattern, then you could investigate the ato option
Where are you getting the cipro from in aus?? Being trying to source it for a long time. Any links would be a great help
I believe it is a prescription only medication, so may require a vet to prescribe
@@ParkersReef much appreciated, thanks for the info. Now I have to convince my vet I need cipro 😂
Another great video.

Thanks for sharing that is super interesting!!!
What are the trace elements he is dozing I heard in the video iodine manganese and strontium
They’re the main ones, but Michael follows the reef moonshiners program, have a look on the net (or my video on the subject) for more info
Wishing I was in Australia 🇦🇺
It’s truly a special place!
Do cipro treatment work on tissue recession of euphyllias....if yes then the dosage😮
It works on Bacteria that is not good for the coral.
I’d highly recommend doing plenty of reading before proceeding :)
It's more so for bacterial issues like brown jelly that cipro is effective against.
So lucky to live in North Lakes 😂
Convenient!!
Haha, it's the place to be!
🎉🎉
Woo hoo!
I might of missed it but does he dose phytoplankton?
I did previously but didn't notice a difference. Thinking to culture myself and try again - it's on the to do list!
great question, glad Michael was quick on to it!
@@Michael_Xia Awesome! I dose daily but don't noticed any difference also. Mainly doing it to feed the copepods.
Is triton method similar to reef moonshiners?
Similar concept, slightly different values they chase. Have a read of the handbook on the website (it’s free!)
Is not doing water changes like not changing the oil in your vehicle.
not at all! If it suits you really depends on your aquarium and why you do water changes. Most do it to remove excess nutrients and to replenish trace elements. In Michael's case, he doesn't have excess nutrient (is actually dosing it in) and is adding all of his required trace elements daily.

It honestly isn't a bad thing - but depending on your nutrient and trace levels, it isn't a requirement.
We're u guys located at
