Technically, a couple hundred years ago in America, poor white and Irish immigrants were discriminated against by rich white people, that's where the term cracker came from. They used it against indentured servants that were Irish. It's of course not the same as slavery, I'd never compare the two, that's just an example.

Im Irish and native American, look completely white. And your friend was saying that white people dont get discriminated against and that's not true. It's happened alot to me. Mostly by black people. Here's a story of one. I worked at a cell phone store some years ago, the area is mostly black. I didn't care cause i was raised to judge on content of character and not by ethnicity. A few days before this there was a meeting where some people got in trouble fore replacing broken phones with new ones and not having the receipt fir insurance. We were told that as if that moment if we didnt have the receipt and did that they would take the price of the phone out of our check. I only made 8 something an hour and commission. This black woman walks in and says her phone was broken so i look at it, open it up, try to fix it and it's a no go. She says she has insurance and wants a replacement. Im cool with doing that so i tell her to bring me a receipt and i change it out, which i intended to do. She said she didnt have it so i even called corporate to see if i could use the vin# to look it up. That didn't work either. So that was all i could do for her in my power so i gave her the corporate # and told her if she brings the receipt in I'll do it. She BLEW UP. She started screaming it was cause she's black, that i was a ignorant cracker then chucked the phone at me like she was a professional baseball player. It was that I'm not buying her phone nothing to do with her being black. This went on for like 15 minutes. So i went to the back a got my friend Eugene ( who was black) and had him tell her the same thing. It was too late she was already to mad. We ended up having to call the cops cause she wouldn't let go that a white girl wouldn't do it. Non stop racist attacks on me. She was being held back while i was just doing my job. Not all white people are 'out to get you' I've seen this stuff my whole life. I have no intention of treating people bad but when stuff like this happens it pisses me off cause they are trying to judge my character all wrong. Dont say im doing something I'm not. Everything dont come down to skin color. Looking for something that isn't there. Don't abuse innocent people because of assumptions. Honestly it makes people look stupid like they cant understand the rules or it doesn't go in their favor so it must be 'racism' . i dunno, unless you can prove Im being some kind if unreasonable then just move on. This is what white people deal with alot. If you non stop think about racism then that's all you see. I think it has alot to do with someone's state if mind.
I am a white male and I've been discriminated against, I've been insulted, my opinions have been ignored, I've been demanded to kneel and plead guilty to my history,
I've been spat at and I've been robbed and beaten multiple times by same group of people who targeted me because I was white.
Just because there is a de facto in many societies that think that whites experience less discrimination or are void from that experience, doesn't mean that it never happens, because it does.
Even when I've stated my experience, often people laugh it off and mark it as a lie because I am white.
I'd like to get past these tarnishing generalizations as much as any other person experiencing hatred because of their skin.

In Texas you have to walk out of the store and then security will detain them until police arrive. If they are still in the store they can claim that they are still shopping.

Everyone has different life experiences so part of respecting others is realizing they have encountered different things than you have.
We can't erase race and the racial issues that affect people in those communities.
There's no need to feel offended by someone commenting on something from their point of view.
The truth is white people in America, have not experienced systemic racial discrimination because white people have controlled the system the whole time. White people haven't had laws made to keep them separate from other parts of society.
That's an uncomfortable reality and a sad truth. Individual people can discriminate against anyone for a whole bunch of reasons other than race but that's not what she was talking about.
She was drawing on her personal experience to talk about how she was made to feel by people of a certain race and gender in her past. And how that connects to society at large.
And I think her point was that it feels like the discrimination people of color have experienced for generations is totally different than those other kinds of discrimination. And I would agree. Being asked to leave a store because you're causing a scene isn't the same as being targeted and treated with suspicion because of your race.
And to ignore that is to ignore something that is a problem for millions of fellow citizens.
I can understand why people want to ignore systemic racism and discrimination and just move on but that doesn't do anything to solve the problem.
No problem can be solved by ignoring it.
If you haven't discriminated against someone because of their race then you don't have to be offended by someone voicing their experience with other members of the same race.
I don't know you and I don't know your race but I would encourage you to not internalize the criticism by people who have experienced racist discrimination. They're not directing that criticism directly at you. If you're white you shouldn't feel like you represent all white people. Getting offended by that and wanting to ignore their experiences just suggests you feel some kind of guilt. But you don't have to feel any guilt if you're not part of the problem.
That's what people refer to as white fragility. People who want to ignore any discussion about race usually fall into that category.
I'm not accusing you of that I'm just encouraging you to have the discussion and not get defensive because nobody is accusing you.
If you do feel offended then maybe, as a good person, you could use it as an opportunity to self reflect.
I'm going to assume you're a good person and that as such you want to get better. I do too. And I'm just suggesting that you don't have to stop following AOK just because one of his guests spoke to something that made you uncomfortable.
Because you said you thought he was a good person, and I agree, but the fact he didn't handle that discussion in the way you expected doesn't change the fact that he is a good person. He just has a different point of view.
And it doesn't make you a bad person for not wanting to follow him anymore but maybe you can still follow him and continue to enjoy the content you've enjoyed up until this point and not take what she said so personally.
Everyone's personal experience is valid and her experience doesn't invalidate yours.
If we're going to be a people that truly wants to be color blind then we have to engage with each other and meet people where they are. And we need to be able to hear each other even if & when things get uncomfortable.

For the record, discrimination and racism are 2 different things. You can be discriminated against (not that I think the guy was being) for many things, not just race.
I used to work securely in the UK.
Years sgo, we used to run them down pin the to the ground wait for police to get there while using reasonable force to keep them under control.
Reasonable force is anything deemed to be fit to keep yourself and the public safe.
I am a security officer, we're not aloud to go after people who has left with the merchandise that's why they have insurance. You really don't know if have a gun or a knife at the car or on their person we are trained to get most accurate description of the car and person or persons.
The thing is, is that if you work in retail, your actually allowed to refuse to serve anyone, if you have a good enough reason. So whilst you may think your in the right to be served, they don't have to serve you. I'm a cleaner by trade, the level of shit i get is shocking, and the entitlement, cause people are like, ' hehehe she's a cleaner lets fuck with them cleaners.' I know every trick in the trade now and I now know how to be passive aggressively nice. So i cant imagine the shit you guys get in retail from just entitled shoppers, like love do your shopping just like everyone else, like people don't want to be bothered by you, just shop for your crocs and go home. love these Karen videos. x

I worked at Lowe’s and they told us if we saw somebody stealing do not confront them you can tell management or whatever but they are not going to chase after them they try to get their tag number and stuff like that and then they call the police but they will not let you chase them down in the parking lot if they get out the door with it then I just get out the door with it and then you do your best to I am get their tag number and what kind of cars are driving and turn it over to the police
