As a measure of popularity I used the search values of the player's name in Google.
This ranking is not perfect at all, I tried to collect the names of the best known players of each football event such as the world cup, continental Cups, Countries teams, etc.
However, it is impossible for me to include the name of absolutely all players due to the magnitude of the quantity.
If you think I forgot a player that would surely have appeared on the top, you can leave a comment and I will eventually include them in a future video.

I think they accidentally and incorrectly combined the figures for the Brazilian and Portguese Ronaldos in around 2004 to 2014. Just look at the fact that there isn't a separate graph for the Brazilian Ronaldo who we know was one of the best and most popular player at that time. Even though Cristiano Ronaldo is undoubtedly the most popular footballer (even sportsperson) on social media now, surely, that couldn't have been the case in around 2004 when he had only just started blossoming at Man U. There are some confusion in the way the data is being showed here. The Brazilian Ronaldo is not mentioned in the list in any time, however he was highly reported as the most popular football player along with Beckham during that years. In 2003 a poll made by Nike listed him as the most famous sportsperson and third most famous person in general. So, what I see here is that the name Ronaldo is erroneously being associated only with Cristiano Ronaldo, but in 2000s the name was primarily associated with the Brazilian Ronaldo. The rest of the list seems to make sense to me.
BTW it's quite impressive the popularity that Beckham and Ronaldinho still have those days - they are like active football stars.
