How Did Ordinary Citizens Become Murderers?

  • What prompted average people to commit extraordinary crimes in support of the Nazi cause?
In the Holocaust era, countless ordinary people acted in ways that aided and hindered the persecution and murder of Jews and other targeted groups within Nazi Germany and across Europe.
On September 13, 2017, the Museum hosted a discussion to answer one of the most vexing questions of the Holocaust: How Did Ordinary Citizens Become Murderers?
Former New York Times reporter and award-winning author Ralph Blumenthal moderated this program with two noted scholars:
Dr. Christopher Browning, Professor of History Emeritus, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and author of Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland
Dr. Wendy Lower, Acting Director of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and author of Hitler's Furies: German Women in the Nazi Killing Fields

So many nazis were hired by america, that they have a super strong presence now. The video BEHIND THE SMOKE CURTAIN: THE 9/11 PENTAGON ATTACK says that the evil/diabolical nazis in the white house did 9/11.
We have been in the middle of the 2nd holocaust a long time -- each time a bomb is dropped, a chemical is sprayed on the land and waters, radiation is spewing from Fukushima on a constant basis, fluoride is constantly being put into toothpaste and drinking water, GMOs and pesticides are in the foods. Cops shooting people in the back. CIA/SWAT tearing apart people's farms and entering homes without knocking. Wars that are about taking over the resources of other countries. And prisons are about breaking up families and stopping competition. Vaccines that are weapons. All of this is a genocidal plan to free the world of billions of people.
What these communists/nazis/ psychopaths causing everyone else to be out of balance, DON'T know is that this dimension is not our home. Out of these bodies we vibrate a whole lot faster as electrical energy fields. Quantum physics has been left out of schools and hospitals so even the idea of death has got so many people scared that they become sick, just what the medical cartel wants. BUT there can be no death because we are constantly being created. And nonlocality has been proven. So we are all ONE energy and light, which means these nazis/communists are literally hurting themselves, TOO. This is the information that physicists know but are not allowed to tell us, except the physicist Barbara Brennan that wrote the book HANDS OF LIGHT.

At the same time stating that the unvaccinated are the cause of all the problems, (if someone is vaccinated they can't catch that disease). They have already built re-education camps. So, a population identified as evil, camps to isolate them, a group of people willing to pull the trigger, a media lying, a general informing our enemies, a leader pushing. 🤔 🙄 never happen here, right.

Sitzen Sie nicht in Ihrem warmen Zuhause und bei warmen Mahlzeiten ... und denken Sie, Sie werden nicht erwischt. @@jimbanda SEEMING ordinary people. You will find that around 20% of the population of every nation across the world are inhumane. They look ordinary because they are all masked. These people become vocal and pressure others around them to conform with the authorities in doing atrocities.
One stark example. After the second world war, the British celebrated war criminal aka Churchill, entered Greece with an army, dismissed the government and rounded up the Greeks where were the German collaborators to form a government. And more than that to spark a civil war and exterminate 10% of the population, either in war or famine or tortures of those Geeks who refused to fight other Greeks.
It was justified on the idea that the Greek communist party would call on Russia to support the government. This was hardly true.
Firstly those that fought the Germans and the government were socialist as there are in other European countries like Sweden. Secondly Churchill went to Russia prior to entering Greece and cut a deal with Stalin. We have this and you get that etc. This is the percentages agreement.
Why was this done? It was done to create the illusion of a cold war and Russia as an aggressor that might take over the free world. It helped those that profit from war, like the Rothschild''s, who boast that they have made all their money funding all wars since Napoleon on both sides. While it has been presented as a Greek civil war, the world population has been kept in the dark AND willing to fight in a cold war scenarios that are all a set up. Is it the ordinary people's fault. No. They have been deceived on the one hand and there are inhumane people on the other presenting these scenarios as a real danger to the so-called free world.

He would make me practice evasive measures whilst in public with a double-sided beret, different hairstyles and a reversible jacket, whenever we were out in public. He also taught me cryptography and we would speak in code. He bred me for War, teaching me Judo, how to throw knives, etc by the time I was 4 years old.

You need a moderator that keeps things focused, though I would hope a holocaust survivor would be recognized before the event. It could be the moderator is uncertain to trust an unverified source in a very public event. You say the panel profited off of books, but most of us view them as scholars. and
"By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed."

If you aren't familiar with the experiment; subjects were supposed to give shocks of up to 450 volts to another person every time they got an answer wrong. Now of course the other person was an accomplice and was never in any danger.

Ascribed social traits (race, gender, sexuality etc) are wholly different than national identity. The former is particular and necessarily minority based. The later is universal and majoritarian. The key difference is that those who make identity-based justice claims are self-secure, but disempowered, and the practice of national politics involves feeling insecure, but (often violently) empowered. Obviously then, it’s patriotism and nationalism that is the true threats, not feminism or anti-racism.

I am multiracial and my great grandfather and his brothers were branded on their ankles when they were children so they couldn't pass for white even though they didn't try to pass for white. By the time they were young men they were told they had to leave town of die. This happened here in the United States! One of my uncle's was so scared that he moved all the way to Canada and kept his identity secret. He lived to be over hundred and it was at that time that he revealed his ethnicity. This conditioning of thinking that one ethnic group is superior over another is dangerous and can lead to murder as history and current events has revealed!

The most fascinating thing I've ever seen was in "Nazis: A Warning From History". A municipal archive was discovered in a small German town filled with letters from Germans accusing and betraying their fellow Jewish neighbors. It started with anonymous letters and concluded with genocide. I believe in a Marxist explanation. It was opportunism, thievery, and exploitation, pure and simple.

I thought this was a pretty good, thought provoking presentation. However, it mostly concentrates on the idea that the Jewish people were almost the sole victims in the Holocaust. There were plenty of other people that were being rounded up, terrorized and eventually killed. The Russians and the Chinese lost about 20 million human beings per country in that war. That war, and the insanity that spread around the world because of it was very inclusive when it came to indiscriminate slaughter. I also think it was more than a bit naive of some of the presenters and the audience to laugh at a snarky reference to Trump’s remarks about the media being the enemy of the people as if such a thing was unthinkable. You can bet that the media in Germany before and during the war helped to create the psychological conditions amongst the populace to implement the goals of the Third Reich. Their was a constant onslaught of propaganda handed to the media to dispense by Joseph Goebbels and they did so without question as their existence depended on it. Goebbels had declared “There must be one public opinion for all.” He boasted about using the media “like a giant Wurlitzer.” Newspapers and especially radio had a profound influence on shaping the German public. You can be sure that no contrary opinions from the public were allowed and that those trying would be censored or severely punished. Does this sound at all familiar currently?

"The Russians and the Chinese lost about 20 million human beings per country in that war."
You are succumbing to a common error of not distinguishing between aggression, war crimes, war casualties, and GENOCIDE. The Russian and Chinese losses were not a result of genocide but of the war perpetrated on them by Nazi Germany and Japan. Another thing you don't understand is that human losses in a war are not evaluated by the absolute number of people killed but by its percentage of the total ethnic group's population. Russians lost about 15% of its population while the percentage of Jews systematically exterminated was 60% of the entire Jewish population of Europe.

Its easier to relate with your comment now that it is clear that for whoever wants to think that the media we think of today in western democracy is actually better modelled to be aligned as propaganda and not accountable to the people but to corporations, and governments and are driven with same elements as the media in Nazi times or wherever atrocities have been committed such as in Rwanda, China for decades and still happening. The consensus with big tech, social media giants and left wing or left leaning idealogy is worrying. There seems to be a dominance of left leaning ideologies in the the public discourse and if care is not taken , we may find ourselves in a near future there comes a higher cost to having a different view and not been aligned. Well, we already see it in sneaky ways but thats the thing it all starts with sneaky good reasons to term a group of people the other.Does this sound at all familiar currently?

Democrats want a functioning government and a country where ALL Americans are equally regardless of color, race, sexual orientation, or religion (etc). Quite the opposite of fascism.
Every single day, hourly in fact, Fox News and other right wing "news" channels create an Us vs Them narrative which demonizes anyone on the left and boosts those on the right as saints, as the good guys, righteous. This has been their MO for decades, but it has grown even worse under Trump. That is stage 1 of fascism. Create a scapegoat for the country's problems (the left, immigrants, etc). Then turn them into "other"/ so they are seen as not human. Then say that scapegoat is taking something away from you or destroying the nation. This creates the justification for violence (see Capitol insurrection and Trump's Big Lie). People who are angry and fearful can be encouraged to do terrible things.

An emphasis on nationalism and the traditional family, the demonizing of trans, queer people in general, labeling them as pedophiles, as well as teachers! Librarians and attacks on the libraries themselves. Slowly eroding away at our trusted institutions. The slow legal coup, by way of vote suppression as well as changes in who or how the people meant to uphold the people's vote, how it can be changed, all the legal loopholes and changes in every single form of elected office, to slowly but surely put in place a minority rule, hidden by what may appear to be legal ... These people, they think this is a new idea 😅 WE'RE the new idea, not this repetitive failure of thought. We're the new idea. More successful and risen to power in such a short time than at least most, maybe all, empires, and these people want to throw it all away for money, power, and their hatred. The thing they should study is accounts of people, just like them, who did this, helped this come, in the past, and what really happened. How it worked out for them. Everyone falls. That's always the same, as well. How long, how fast can, could it be, before the trans, gays, etc..., Are in death camps?? From the start of this, I have had this dread in the pit of my stomach. @@thetopcat8946 No, make it clear rather than revert to a trite assertion. However, I am unsure whether you are telling me that I know some individual called Mocker; or whether you claim that you are being mocked? Or telling me my place of birth in Leipzig? Tell me what is happening!? I am curious to hear your view.
