That spring is a great design . It’s not complicated at all and works so well for easy opening and closing because the fingers are no where near the blade on the ones I have .
Just for fun sometime, lay this CMB predator over top of a Spyderco Shaman... they're dam near the exact same shape. it's kinda crazy how similar shaped they are, especially the blade. GREAT budget knife although mine has a kinda weak lock spring but I replaced it with a cheap Amazon Axis lock spring and it's much better/has better lock-up then it did when new.
@@NeevesKnives I was surprised to see how thin mine was behind the edge too, I don’t remember exactly what I measured but I do remember being impressed.
I had to return my predator. Either the crossbar or the base of the blade that pivots against the crossbar was so rough thumbstud deployment was difficult without a firm wrist flick. Pull the crossbar back for button only deployment - no problem. I suppose I could have disassembled it and Dremel polished both parts but - that new Raccoon…
Looks like a great knife, good size and good ergonomics will make it a knife you want to carry. The price is good for the materials used as well and the Bar lock makes it ambidextrous along with being super strong. When it comes to micarta I like the soft stuff as well vs the slick stuff otherwise I'd just go with g10. For a new company they are getting everything right at the moment hope it continues that way. Thanks for the great vid Jerad keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
Hi Todd👋 I'm thinking of possibly buying one of these knives with 14c28n and micarta. Basically it has all three things I'm looking for in my next purchase, cross bar lock, 14c28n and micarta. I was wondering if you have any other knife suggestions with those three attributes for under $60?
@@flipflat4814 might want to check out Vosteed knives the Raccoon and Corsair I saw them on White Mountain Knives and Jerad has a discount code in the description of the vid for 10% off. The Vosteed Grind is also around but it has a scandi grind on it and wasn't in stock at WMK currently. @@toddcarr. Thanks Todd I'm definitely going to look at all of them tomorrow 👍. I really didn't think 154cm could be bought for around $60 yet. It really seems like budget knife materials are getting better and better 👍. Actually, tonight I saw a USA made Buck 112 Slim Ranger Pro TRX Folding Knife in S30V on sale for $79.00 at Knife Center👍. And honestly I'm not really sure MagnaCut would be enough of an improvement, to stop the inevitable from happening to me😂. Anyways thanks again Todd 👊, you're always up to date and a wealth of knowledge sir👍.
Nice! I appreciate you always finding these new quality knives to show us, and it’s added to my list now. I honestly hadn’t heard of CMB before. So many good Chinese makers coming out now. I know what you mean about TRM, I’ve been looking for some TRM models for ages. FYI, the sites you mention don’t have it, but I found two sites that between them have all variants from $45-$48. Can’t beat that. This red micarta SW is nice, but the black g10 / satin really pops as well. BTW, this is the same blade shape as the Ritter Hogues, which also have an Axis type lock, but that’s more than 3x as much.
@@NeevesKnives I have every one of those Ritter exclusives that supplement the Griptilians. I think they're up to 12 large and small variants now. The only weakness in the design is that the pocket clips can be bent a bit easier than most if you're not careful, but otherwise they're fantastic EDC's with great steel. Perfect detents on those.
@@NeevesKnives Beez is on fire with the budget game 😂. It’s all good tho you have that sharpening game and all those fancy blades nobody can afford or find.

Can you test the locking on this knife? I ordered one and just found out today that my lock fails. So after cutting myself because of that, I tested it by hitting the back of the blade on the edge of my nightstand. Doesn't take much to cause it to fail.
Really! That is surprising because this is a very strong locking system, so your lock geometry must be bad, I will test mine extra hard, but clean your lock face good, and continue to open and close it without attempting to test its strength for a couple months, hopefully it will break in better, or return it immediately
@@NeevesKnives Thank you for testing yours. I'm not trying to bash the company or anything like that. Just trying to hopefully pinpoint an issue. Hope you all had a happy 4th.
This is not the fault of the knife! It Is just the nature of axis locks in general. Axis locks are really really strong, but when you hit the backside of the blade or do impact stuff like batonning, the shock may create space between the lockbar and where it locks on the knife blade. This might cause the axis bar to slip back and disengage. Almost all axis locks have this problem. Search for a video of batonning with axis locks. They are just not made for that. The only locking mechanism that would work for high impact stuff like hitting the backside of the blade or batonning would be lockback/tri ad lock.
Yep. I'm definitely picking up one of those. I just got the Assassin button lock with red paper micarta, so I'll probably be going with the black micarta. It will be my first axis... I mean *crossbar* lock. WOOOOO! Thank you 4 crushing 👊🏼🐻
@Maurice Clemons , YO! I ended up getting one with orange scales…. Which is why I asked in the live stream if dying orange scales is possible. William said “Yes, they’ll turn burgundy”. To me, that’s better than orange. 😁
Hey chief, my lady has been wanting to try out different locking mechanisms after a bad experience with a linerlock. Do you think this is a good fit for someone with smaller hands?
I'm sure it's been too long, but I'm a female with very small hands and this knife is just fine. Not huge by any means and I have other larger knives that still aren't too much for me. As an alternative I suggest you check out the CJRB Pyrite. It's a button lock that is a very manageable size and never sticks based on my model and all others I've read about/watched. Civivi Elementum II button lock is also raved about and pretty small.
This looks like a really nice knife, but I don't like D2. Just normal everyday use would start to get small dots on it, probably due to the humidity. idk...
@@NeevesKnives I'm still relatively new to the community, I just recently bought mineral oil to use, but haven't had a chance to try it out. Worried I might use too much and gunk it up lol.
