    A good result with the scans Joanna and Nick. Somewhat sad for the cow you now have to cull but twelve years is a good run for a breeder and she's had a wonderful life with you all at Dale Farm. You handled the cattle perfectly on the day. Great work. Thinking of you on this sad anniversary day. Joanna you're are doing the farm and your Dads memory proud.

      Thanks Jeff, you definitely “get it”
      Unlike the ones who are commenting about me murdering and abusing animals for profit !
      I I’m proud of the life we give to the animals here! It’s a jolly good life

    • @DaleFarm

      And the anniversary day, it was a strange day. I think in the run up I felt worse, then the actual day came and I felt okay because we were busy with things … (sold some cows ! ) so that kept me focused on the present !
      And then the days after I had some real sadness thinking about all the time my dad lost out on, and all the things I wish he could have done…. As 70 seemed so young x

    • @jeffweier4824
      @jeffweier4824 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We've had city relatives in late years say that we are so bad when we sell livestock but they just don't and won't realise that the farmer looks after the animals health and nutrition needs often better than his or her own. The livestock enjoy the very best life that can be given. Some people nowadays are so righteous and hypocritical and you can't reason with them.
      You may remember me saying about losing my dad 35 years ago. The anniversary of his passing is something that is always very poignant on the day even after all this time, and like you Joanna I wish I'd had my dad around longer so we could have farmed together longer and had him meet my 2 children and now also my 2 grandchildren. Your circumstances are so similar to mine back in 1987 and I truly do believe I have some idea of how you feel. You will have sad days but you will also have many days where in your heart you know your doing his memory proud and that's the best way to cope. Well done Joanna.

    I watched this before the last “bull problems” one. I guess he was bored and was trying to expand his herd. Good results, too bad about the one cow, but now Bill can go home and you don’t have to worry about him. Preparing the area well sure paid off when moving the cows. If they don’t think they can get over, they don’t even try. Well done.

    Interesting how you folks on a family-size farm use whatever you have to to make things work, like blocking escapes with vehicles, etc.
    Love your farm, your persona, and your channel.

    Well...me Grandpap John always said it's good sign when a bull jumps the fence...a pain in the ass when that happens though. A shame for the one Highland losing her 'little one' in the womb...that's tough on everyone. Joanna...you and Nick don't give yourselves enough credit for coming into your 'stride' as farmers - your Dad is smiling! Thanks for sharing the scan results -looking forward to the next video! Cheers...

    There's always good news and bad with stock. It's amazing how things have come on over the years. Being able to scan cattle or sheep makes it much easier to give them the right amount of feed and not waste feed on cull animals. Looks like a good day all round. All the best 🇬🇧.

    Good job, looked like it was pretty stress free for the ladies. And results where good, gives a chance to make a good plan for the farm. It's not free to have them checked, but can pay off in the long run for sure.

      Hi 👋 yes I was weighing up beforehand , the cost versus what if we are totally in the dark. It could go okay , or we could end up with only 2 calves or something and then have been feeding cows all winter without producing any calves

    Good Video and good results. I'm pleased it went well for you. Well Bill done the job, despite the odd high jump here and there. Shame one of the cows has to be culled, still it's lived the greater part of it's life. The way time flies the calves will be here before you know it...🙂👍🏻

      With all due respect it’s not a job for someone without experience around cattle!! Working with livestock can be dangerous, getting cows into a crush etc if you don’t have your wits about you then you could be hurt or killed. Or just an accident. Farmers are crushed and killed!

    They are majestic beasts those Highlands and congratulations on a good scan result. Also within the yard my beady eye picked out I suppose you would call it a scrape out raised ramp for scraping out cow kennels back in the day ,with normally a rotospreader parked underneath it was this from perhaps dairy days?

    • @DaleFarm
      @DaleFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!! We used to use the scraper not so many years ago , dad used to buy a few cattle at the market and feed them up / bring them on a bit. They would spent the winter in the shed so cleaning out wit the 135 and scraper about 2 times a week. I used to help him ❤️

    • @mikeman584
      @mikeman584 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the reply Joanna, did you have a spreader positioned beneath the ramp or did you scrape it into a midden? Also looking at your MF 135 that Nick was manoeuvring, you wouldn't think it had been on scraper duties as cow muck is notoriously harsh on the paintwork. See it's starting to get cold these last couple of days you'll have to dig out the old winter gear!

      @@DaleFarm As time marches on, nothing stays the same anywhere, especially on a farm or ranch. I can remember when I was a small child, we ran horned Hereford cows, and because of our severe climate Dad started running Scottish Highlander bulls . Fond memories I guess, you know what I mean. Have a great day 🐂

      all bulls that are on hire get like that very quickly ..............a bull has only 2 things on his mind ........his prick or his belly .........and he would have to be locked in a concrete yard for his belly to be on his mind ........!

    All animals age and die, but they do not have the health care and assistance humans have. They can’t retire. Their children don’t bring them food or protect them, and they don’t have medications or pain relief. Death is usually a slow and painful process unless a predator takes them out, but even that is usually not quick or easy. The best they can hope for is a hunter’s bullet or arrow. Farm animals have a bit more care but still suffer greatly as they age. Culling them is a kindness. Consider the recent push for euthanasia for humans. Many say humans should be able to choose to die the same way we peacefully end our pets suffering. Culling farm animals is no different and is the best way to honor their lives and give them a quick, painless end.

    Hi joanna! I've never been so late watching one of your vlogs.. 🤦‍♂️Having only one cull cow is not a bad result. What a Yr you've had, I hope you and nick can find the time to take a break away from it all,we all need to.. As for some of the comments written telling you what you should do with your farm and stuff, well I quess those people are experts... 🥱🥱🥱

    Trovo offensivo per questi meravigliosi animali fare finta che vi interessi della loro salute. A voi interessa solo il denaro. Sicuramente li massacrate per la carne.
    Che orrore!
