I was ten back then. How I loved going to the bikers cafes and look at the bikes. As soon as I turned 16 in 1970 I was riding. I will be 71 soon. I’m still cruising and have no intention to get old! Best wishes and happy cruising all 👍…

I passed by motorcycle test in 1968 aged 16, and loved riding old British bikes in those happy days, and burning off scooters ! I rode a 1954 Matchless 350cc a couple of years ago over here in Cyprus and found it so bloody heavy. What bike do you ride ? Age is only a number! Pride and Clark were great motorcycle dealers.

@ Currently I’m riding a Royal Enfield 650 Super Meteor. Leg position lets me ride without the arthritis playing me up. And from time to time I swap bikes with my grandson and ride his Kawasaki 650 Vulcan S. That’s a quick cruiser!

@ Yes bro me too. 1976 while all our mates basked in that summer sunshine even touring around Wales, we were on nappy duty! Shat happens at times 😂🤷🏻‍♂️🤘. I passed my bike test in 1971 then my big regret was buying an L reg 750 Norton Commando. Forever in and out of the workshop. No problems and lots of trouble free mileage when be bought the CB Honda 750 Four in 1978 followed by an XS 650 Yamaha ❤️. Safe cruising dude…

Brilliant, thanks. I rode a 64 Bonnie back in the 60s here in Australia. I courted my wife on that bike. I get almost emotional seeing classic style Triumphs back in production, but can't justify the price. Sitting and starting one at a dealers it fitted like a glove.
I have returned to riding at 75, buying the new CFMoto450MT. Great bike, but not a Bonneville. First time ride felt perfect with all my riding instincts instantly kicking in. So at home. First long ride felt just like this video.

I can remember back in the day riding my BSA C15 250 wearing an open face helmet an old pair of oily jeans and a worn out leather jacket covered in patches and metal studs, in summer I wore a tee shirt and in winter I wore a woolly jumper and I rode my bike 7 days a week in all weathers to work and for pleasure,, back then nobody was bothered about the size of your bike, everyone with a bike was seen as a biker and bikers stuck together and got on with each other, bikers were a much tougher breed back then and a lot younger, no waterproofs and gloves or even a visor, yet still rode all over the country, night and day, now the only bikes I see on the road during winter are scooters and 125s, biking is a much different world now for sure. I still ride my bike an old Kawasaki ZZR 600 to work and back, 60 miles everyday and I am in my 60s.

The UK has some tough riders! From what I've seen, riding in the rain is more of the norm than not and the kids in the film looked like they were having a blast, despite the cold wet weather. A lot of the videos put out by triumph owners I've seen seem to always involve jackets, gloves and the cold. I wonder if most of these folks know what it's like to ride in a T-shirt. I guess we in the US are a tad spoiled LOL.

Yea i read or saw somewhere that the film was filmed in about november & they really are riding in the cold & snow. Well the main character doubles were not the stars haha. & the local ace cafe extras lads were. Although i live 300 miles from the ace. I met & made friends with on of the extras & original ace cafe rocker real nickname Noddy. he's the young fresh faced lad to the right of the picture in the ace car park just before they set off for the ride to Edinburgh. We're still in contact.

Getting caught in the rain is an occupational hazard in the UK, and riding in cool conditions isn't as bad as you might think. I'm comfortable down to 3C and I'm not dressed like a polar explorer. Base layer, jumper and jacket/jeans with the thermal liner plus heated grips keeps the chill out, and a couple of hours or so in the saddle is fine. It makes a pleasant change to be riding without constantly sweating.
We have people in the summer riding around in shorts and T-shirts, and I've done it myself years ago when I was a teen, but most bikers will dress with their summer gear on. It's easier than having to cope with road rash.

The beautiful sound of the Triumphs and Nortons, and that would have been some doing from London to Edinburgh on them machines, especially the speeds that they were keeping on. But saying that if they were looked after properly and everything checked before the race and stopping now and then to check your bike over, they probably would make it. A great British film.

I really loved Leather Boys. Visually its outstanding. Excellent b&w cinematography. The highway motorcycle race is really well filmed. Probably the most awesome collection of Ton Up - Rocker motorcycle jackets you'll ever come across on film. Images around the great old Ace Cafe are superb. All the acting is excellent. Rita Tushingham is too believable as the cockney "Mrs". I understand that the story it toned down from the book on which its based. Some criminal behavior and more overt gay themes are removed. But they weren't necessary to make this film work. It's fairly obvious early on that the "Pete" character is not interested in girls. And it seems to me that depicting "Reggie" as clueless about his new best friend's homosexuality works better than depicting him as bisexual. That would be confusing. I very much liked the way this story played out as well as the glimpse into British working class life in the early 1960s. And I like the way the story ends, which I won't give away here. All in all a really neat film from the standpoint of the fine acting, visuals and story line. Highly recommended.

I lived close to the A20 in Kent in the early 1960's, and this film revives memories of gangs of ton up boys speeding down the road on their way to Brands Hatch, Johnson's Café and to the south coast resorts on summer Sundays. The film music doesn't fit to well, 'Terry' by Twinkle would be a lot more appropriate 😎!

Yea had a feeling the music wouldn't suit everyone. Prob most. but got the idea somehow & it wouldn't go away so just used it to get it out & do something bit different as theirs a few clips of the same bike scenes on here as well as the full film. ideally a rock n roll track or something woud be better but most best/suitable ones can't be used for copyright reasons & this was ok to use. if i find something ok to use one here i might do it again & maybe mix in bits of reg & Pete's race around the north circular.

So i fitted bits of bike video to fit the song. There's bits repeated. bits reversed. But when i played the vid with the track turned down it was ok really. Might look at it again & tidy it up & put a better ending on it. Was also trying to avoid any copywriter pickups by youtube by mixing video bits with different music. @ I expect the ones in that clip may be gone by now rest their soles. My uncle got me into biking at a young age. Uncle Eddie and his wife Viv were part of the 1950s ton-up scene as his old b&w pic showed with camping holidays to the Isle of Wight. I think it was 1960 just before I was six that he took me to the Ace Cafe in his Sunbeam side car outfit. He got me to hold some bits to keep them safe he said. He sold them to a biker at the Ace. I still remember that day complete with a fry-up and a cup of tea as the music played. We walked around the bikes before returning home. If I wasn’t already hooked on two wheels before that, I was by time I came home! Aged 14 while at school a teacher asked the class what we wanted to do when we left school? He asked me first. Ride a motorcycle sir, I replied being totally honest. I got detention for and I quote ‘taking the piss’! Luv it still !!
