    Termidor contains fipronil too.
    I had some left over, mixed a drop in a small amount of cat mince. The wasps took a lot away and I haven't seen any for ages.
    Fipronil works a treat !

      Fantastic. Termidor Residual contains 100 g/L Fipronil which is the same concentration as Exelpet Spot-On Flea Treatment, so it works at the same dilution in cat food.

    I think you misinterpreted the study by Harris and Etheridge. My read of it is they used a single type of bait (fipronil) but not deployed in a single bait station on the 300Ha property. Rather, the baits were put out on a 50m x 50m or 50m x 100m grid. The paper states they had 2.2 bait stations per Ha.

      Makes sense if wasps generally stick to a 500 metre radius of the nest. I too was questioning how one bait trap could cover that amount of acreage.

    Hello, I love the idea and have had my trap hanging next to a birdbath for 5 days (this is where the wasps are congregating), unfortunately, they are not the slightest bit interested in entering trap (an adapted purchased trap with yellow lid). I wonder if there is a specific type of fish flavoured cat food to use? I have "Purr Flaked Tuna and Crab in Gravy" rather gourmet really! Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

      Hi Kathy. Firstly, this is the right approach. Attract before baiting. I can only suggest that you keep trying different flavours. Perhaps a chicken (or other non-fish) variety may bring you more luck.

      You could also try a bit of liver from the butchers. I use sheeps liver from my farm and the wasps seem keen.

    • @brucebrowne4670
      @brucebrowne4670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philpope1276 Yes liver works well. It needs to be minced to mix the fipronin in properly

    1.Get a chicken from Woolies
    2. Strip the chicken meat and put into fridge for later.
    3. Hang up chicken carcass with wire.
    4. Let the wasps swarm it.
    5. Lightly spray or dust them with any of the poisons (fipronal best) - lightly spray not to kill them but to take it back to the nest to kill the rest.
    6. Sit back open a beer and give them a light spray on the hour (or when there are a heap on the carcass).
    7. Grab another beer, repeat.
    8. May take a day or 2
    9. Eat outside - no more wasps.
    10. You are welcome!

      Gotta say I tried traps, orange juice, apple juice, cat food, tuna, Strasburg, wasp dust, ant rid etc etc
      I was getting quite obsessed to the point that it was driving me crazy, couldn’t get rid of the barstards until the magic chicken carcass, they love it.
      Got rid of every wasp over drunken 2 days over Easter 5 years ago.
      This time of year I’ll hang a chicken carcass to draw them for a free feed and I only get a few that I squirt over a few days....wasp free outdoors!!! Love it

      Hi Yogi, thank you for the tips. How are you spraying the fipronal are you mixing into water if so what mixing rate are you using?

    • @andyshazza
      @andyshazza 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregvivas5963 I buy the fipronil unfiltered in a container about the size of a small mini bar bottle of gin/scotch. I mix about 4-5 drops in a 1 or 2 litre spray pressure pump - you only need a small amount, your mixture will be a bit cloudy. You don’t want it too strong or they will die before getting back to the nest to kill the queen (which is the main goal).
      When spraying them only light mist spray them, wait an hour or so until others start to swarm on the chicken (or whatever meat you are using). Keep it up and you will be wasp free in no time.
      Good luck

    Hi, thanks for your video. we have a wasps nest under the flashing in the corner of the roof on a second floor so its a bit hard to get up a ladder and spray the wasps and get down the ladder and back inside without been stung a few times, this bait station could work well. how ever i don't want the bees been attracted to the poison ether. will the cat food only attract the wasps and not the bees ?

    • @AustralianPaddock
      @AustralianPaddock  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David. Yes, the cat food will only attract wasps, as they need protein to feed their larvae. Bees, on the other hand, require nectar for all stages of their life cycle. In this way the baiting is targetted to the wasps. Good luck.

    Can I use fipronil + methoprene?
    The flea treatment at my supermarket sells fipronil 100g/L and Methoprene 90g/L

    • @AustralianPaddock
      @AustralianPaddock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. Methoprene should be ok as it is a growth regulator and can stop development of the bug. As long as it doesn't kill the wasp before it gets back to the nest it should be ok. But as a disclaimer, I have had no experience with it.

      Thanks for the reply, I have put out the poison bait today (after a few days with no poison) and the wasps are absolutely smashing it, so it will be interesting to see if the fipronil + methoprene is as effective. I know where the nest is on my property so I can keep an eye on it. I will give you an update in a few days or so once they finish,

      Not sure about that one. I am only advising on killing remote nests at a certain time of the year via a specific poisoning process.

    See vid by Scott Draffin (?) A bit tedious but simple with Front-line flea / tick killer mixed into fishy type cat food! BTW? Is this guy talking about Yellow Jackets?? Those are the only type of stinging insects in the ground that MIGHT have such huge numbers??

    • @AustralianPaddock
      @AustralianPaddock  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, Scott's video is also correct. I am trying to add some safety and background around the concept and developed mine from Wine Tasmania and other literature.
      In Australia, we don't have hornets, only European bees and wasps that compete with the native bees and wasps. This video is about strategically killing European wasps by taking advantage of their lifecycle stage when they feed their young protein from meat (as opposed to bees and wasps eating nectar).

    Anything for the orange/black hornets ?

    • @AustralianPaddock
      @AustralianPaddock  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A bit of Googling reveals that hornets can be controlled with Fipronil, so maybe just give the process a go and see what happens. We have no hornets here.

    • @CurtisLSA
      @CurtisLSA 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AustralianPaddock thank you. I have tried everything even had pest control here . They keep coming back , nothing seems to be working . They are the big red/orange and black ones. I am in Brisbane QLD Australia so will try and find where this fipronil can be purchased from

    • @AustralianPaddock
      @AustralianPaddock  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CurtisLSA I think its also important to be patient in the process. In order to poison you must have sufficient wasps attracted to the bait station before you poison. Only then will they take enough poison to the nest when you change the bait from unpoisoned to poisoined.

    Buy a can of Raid wasp & hornet spray. To trap and kill them, just leave not quite empty beer cans around outside. Quite a few slip and drown in the beer... not a bad way to go maybe!

    Hash tag ... HORNET!!!!
    I think there's a difference in the 2!?
    Hornets seem to make a nest with a paper dome over the cone/hive ....
    Wasp don't (unless there are different species of wasp that do)....yellow jackets look a little different than wasp & fly faster to me!!?!?!
