  • No Age perform Eraser on "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" after guitarist Randy Randall is told he can't wear his Obama tee shirt. Randall, at the last minute took a Sharpie Marker to his shirt, turned it inside out and wrote "Free Health Care" as a compromise.

    No Age got signed to Sub Pop as a result of their DIY attitude and hard work. They recorded five vinyl EP's and singles on their own before being signed by anyone. On Sub Pop the band does recordings on their own, and Sub Pop does not fund their touring or pay for anything like that. No managers and agents to go through; the band handles their own business and makes all decisions. Transportation, merch etc is all done themselves. No Age may have more means than they use to but they are still DIY

    At the end, when they left the stage immediately, were they trying to prove a point? Like were they trying to show that they don't like being on TV? Thats the message I got from it and I thought it was pretty badass.

    i was at Coachella too, if you thought that was awful then you just don't like their music. That's cool, if everyone liked it then it wouldn't be cool. The Cold War Kids set was completely different, as Dean didn't even bring his drums hahaha. I am not sure what was planned, but when they changed venues on everyone I think No Age decided to just have fun with it.

    That's a fair statement, but it's also part misconception and part overlooking more beyond what's on the surface like incentives and innovation. The insurance structure has made a drastic change since the 1970s, but in the 1910s, the concept of medical insurance welcomed the idea of having a middle-man which also restricted people from getting affordable coverage.
    You're right that it should obvious that free healthcare is a fallacy, but a lot of people don't know this.

    That's a noble statement I guess, but you don't want to be taken advantage of either. Right now, at least where I live social institutions such a health care and welfare are being heavily taken advantage of. I have friends who willingly go on welfare because they will make more money as to working a full time job at minimum wage. I'm paying for that shit and they are making more money then me. Like I said before, I still believe in social institutions, but to a degree. There has to be balance.

    @zs50129a No Age had to play an experimental set, otherwise nobody could sit through 40min of the Cold War Kids. Also, Mr. Schwartz I am fairly sure the "Obama T-shirt stunt" had nothing to do with No Age booking that show or any other. No Age gets booked because their rad and people want to see them. Nobody take into consideration a tee shirt that randy wore in 2008. Now go enjoy your piano-maraca rock, because nobody likes a tattle-tale.

    That's funny because I always thought the Ramones were the first punk rock band. (i.e. America, not Britain). Also, from the very beginning these bands and the culture they created embraced self-recording, distribution and promotion of their own recordings and shows. Sounds DIY to me.

    No, i used that language to parody yours. But since you mentioned it, if you want health insurance why not just purchase it? Why do you want a federal bureaucracy between you and your doctor? I don't think i'm impervious to illness, but i also think i can do a better job taking care of my healthcare needs than the gov can. I am already paying into Medicare, state healthcare, both of which are outgrowing their budget and we can't even afford our V A Hospitals. I'll pass on broke, lousy care.

  • @staxstix
    @staxstix 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    because people are stupid, that's why. a lot of people don't think responsibly enough to pay for something where they don't necessarily see results right away, and when they are ill, they start complaining about the high prices they can't afford and the bad government again. if done correctly, gov healthcare is far from lousy. spending a few dollars more for the most important in your life (health) is a good thing. i won't ever understand why americans don't get that it's good for them.

    you are very ill informed if you think we have to wait a year for an operation. another big reason reason that we have less. you can't compare it the way you do. it's just not that simple... i mean, there are way more people in the U.S., there's also many Canadian that go to school there and just end up living there etc. look at France or Norway too. don't just compare to Canada. France and Norway have a similar system as Canada but just a little more improved. The system in the U.S. is selfish

    I was just saying that punk will be defined by the people listening to and creating the music in that scene. As for Simple Plan, I don't know why their sexual orientation is important but I looked them up and they are probably not a punk band. Though, there is nothing wrong with pop music; punk is basically just pop music without the means and excess. That's just one reporter's opinion. What exactly is it about No Age that you say isn't punk?

    No Age owes as much to shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine as they owe to say the Ramones...I've always felt that too many people take for granted how far music has evolved, the musicianship of a band like No Age is IMO far superior to that of older simplistic punk bands. A naive simple creator is not as great as one that is complex and wholly aware.

  • @SCVegan

    wow, just saw No Age open for Cold War Kids in NYC... never been this motivated to whine about how shitty an opening band was. I've never seen an opener get quarters, pennies, tickets, plastic cups thrown at them and actually get booed off stage when their set was done. AND I agreed with every aspect of it. Whatever the hell they were trying to do was NOT music, their "performance" is noise, not music. And apparently the only reason why they got this gig is for their Obama T-Shirt stunt. Ish...

I then decided to give them a second chance at Coachella and it was terrible again.
