    These are fabulous videos! I've watched you a lot but this is my favorite series - skipping unnecessary steps, better construction techniques - much appreciated! I am just about to make several of these for Christmas gifts so glad I found this!

    I wish I'd found these videos before I made hoodies for my nieces and nephew. I struggled with the hood part. The only thing I did differently with the body and sleeves is I sewed front to back last after attaching the sleeves as one seam from cuff to waist.

    I find it interesting that you tackle these projects much the same as I do: its comforting to know that I'm not the only one who sees these processes the way I do - but, I am still learning perspectives apparently. Thank you.

    I'm so pleased to have discovered your channel Catherine! I ordered this pattern after seeing your videos and can't wait to give it a go. Your instructions are brilliant and have definitely made me feel more confident about sewing up my first hoodie. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for this excellent video. I often think the way they describe instructions in the pattern is confusing then you watch someone and just think ahhhhhh! Mine is all cut out, feel like it will fly together now 🎉

    Missouri Star Quilt Co is offering this pattern for $5 and change right now -- Jan. 2023. I was excited when I saw it going through their sale section. Love your videos. I've been sewing since I was 9yo -- 68 now. But, I've learned so much from you. Alterations have always baffled me. Your instructions have taken a lot of mystery out. Thank you. Happy New Year.

      @@lisanegus9113 So great! There's just one change I would make. When you sew the pocket on, instead of turning up the bottom edge, leave it flat and catch the bottom edge into the waistband seam. It looks much better without that gap at the bottom!

    Thank you for your channel. I made/finished a hoodie after my daughter abandoned it without cutting all pieces (there wasn’t enough fabric!) It was a lot easier to make revisions and finish it with your video here! Thanks!

    I just ordered my pattern on Amazon so when it comes I'll need to get some fabric. In the mean time, while I'm waiting for thr fabric, I'll go through your tutorial again making some notes on the instructions and pattern pieces. I'll probably also trace my pattern to some thick paper, I love piecing paper grocery bags together for this. That way if my daughter likes my Hoodie I can trace her size on another piece of taped together grocery bag for her. Yay.

I'm also thinking of making my hoodie in a lighter weight knit for Spring/Fall and have the heavy one for Winter. Probably make the light knit one with less ease.

      So great to hear! The only thing I'd change from the way I did it in this video is the pocket. Instead of turning up the bottom edge of the pocket and sewing it an inch or so up from the bottom of the front, leave the bottom edge of the pocket unturned and align it with the bottom edge of the front. It'll get neatly sewn into the seam of the waistband which looks better than that inch of space under the pocket. I hope you get what I mean!?

    Thank you for this helpful video, Catherine! I'm curious to know, when, if ever, you would recommend choosing a stitch other than a straight stitch when using a knit fabric? Some hoodie patterns seem to recommend a zigzag or overlock stitch and the use of a narrower seam allowance than the 5/8"

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent question! If you sew a horizontal seam (across the stretch of a knit) with a straight stitch, and if you don't stretch as you sew, the thread can snap when you stretch the garment. The reason some people use a zigzag is because it has a bit more stretch but I don't really like it because it kind of shows and doesn't lay flat.There is a stitch that looks like lightening which I think is a bit better. But generally, I just stretch as I sew horizontal seams and I don''t worry about it on vertical seams...unless it's a 4-way stretch, but that's a different story...

    I’m a beginning sewer and noticed the sleeve cuffs are little too long… they cover my whole hand. Is it okay to cut the ends shorter or will that mess with the seams? I’m sewing a medium but this definitely feels like a large

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Emo Josh. You could solve your problem in one of two ways. If you find that the sleeves are just too long, you could just cut an inch or two off the length of the sleeves before attaching the cuffs. However, I find the cuffs on this pattern a little wide, almost as wide as the sleeve so the cuff sits low on your hand rather than on your wrist. If this is the case, you'll be fine to make the cuff a bit tighter by taking an inch off the long edge, meaning that instead of the cuff piece being about 6" x 10", you'd cut it down to be 6" x 9" or even less. I hope that makes sense!

    Sometime I would like to see you put in a separating zipper in the front of a jacket or sweatshirt.
    Aligning both sides is really difficult for me.
