Stihl ms462, Oregon Lightweight 30" Bar & Full Comp, Best Combo Yet???

  • The dialog sums it up fairly well, I think.
    Maybe the best bar & chain combo for the latest offering from the German contingency. Well, imho anyway. Slightly nose heavy and the saw pulls this length of full comp chain nicely.
    I am currently available for custom saw modifications. If you are interested, please shoot me an email.

    I have a ms462 non-mtronic. It's been ported (not to the extent of this saw) run a 28" bar on it. Pretty good saw, I'm happy with it. Like the 461r better.

    I really like the tells you use, the wedge in this video and your axe in others. When your tell moves you know the tree is moving and which way. Very clever! Just got my 462 R C last week and I am very pleased with it. Starting this new saw is a breeze! Love your videos!

    Nicely done. That's a heck of a saw right there. I use a husq 445 with Oregon versacut, but I mainly cut firewood and tree removal for customers. I have cut big tree's with it. You make a decent living with that saw, cutting Big tree's daily. Good job.

    Really hoping I can get a large clutch/bar cover with large mudflap chip deflector soon. I have large covers for my 462’s but only come from Madsens with small deflector. Sends the chips all over me and 15 ft behind me. Would rather it dump the chips at my feet instead. No offering from stihl yet they tell me. Put the 660 or 661 cover on my 362c and it works great.

    I wonder if they're will be a "North American" version of the 462 or if that design will more or less be the replacement for the domestic market when the 461 is retired? The thing sure gets some RPM quick, but it seems a bit lacking for a real 461 replacement. Still, for a fast revving saw in smaller wood, especially if it's some gnarly limbed stuff that 462 will kick butt. The light weight is also nice if you're throwing it around a lot.
    It would be curious to get ahold of the standard carb version to see what it would do, but who knows how long a non-electronic version will be in production these days.
    Always a treat to get to watch you fall and that 462 sure turned out nice.

    • @hotsaws101

      Mr. Speed - My best guess is that they will introduce a west coast version with a full wrap handle, "big kid" clutch cover, with a set of bucking spikes that will work on trees with thick, left coast, type bark in the US sometime around the first of the year. Of course there will also be the 1/2 wrap, mini dawg & mini, "tough guy looking" clutch cover option as well. There is a standard version non m-tronic (adjustable carb but limited coil) released in a few countries around the world already. My suspicion is that we will not see that version stateside, but I would really like to be wrong there.
      From my understanding, the 461 and 441 are both being "replaced" by the 462. I've heard tell of the 461 being heavily discounted already in a few other countries. The 462 is not a direct replacement for the 461, imho, though. They suffer a little down low for the same reason they the have insta-rrrs. The 462 does have an application that will be hard for the 572 to beat - steep, gnarly, and/or brushy ground where the wood is a little smaller on the stump - and/or the super hairy trees where "flick-a-bility" is a must. I made up the Oregon lw 30" bar and used it quite a bit. It's a excellent combination of balance with the weight of the b & c, enough reach to handle a fairly large diameter tree/s, along with the quick pick-up but a mostly top-end powerband.
      By God's grace I will end up with one.
      Thank you.

    Hi Jack, is there any reason why you used the Husky chain on the saw and not the Stihl version that the saw would have been supplied with? Did you have to replace the sprocket to run the Husky chain? - Keep well and thanks for the great content.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ben hi. This saw was not supplied with a 30" Oregon lightweight bar. Stihl chain has a different tooth profile than the Husky (Oregon) chain. I can get Oregon (this version Husky) chain to cut better than the Stihl chain in all but one application. Thanks for watching.

      It is re/second growth, yes. I never counted the growth rings on any of the trees in this unit. It I had to guess, it would be between 50 and 70 years based on it's size.

    • @hotsaws101

      There are several 661 videos, both m-tronic and non m-tronic, on this channel. All but one is with a 3' bar & chain. If you have the time, checking them out would yield a pretty good idea for you I think.

    • @countrytime7249
      @countrytime7249 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah nothing like watching a tree fall from 30 feet away through brush and forest litter. Sarcasm. Keep the helmet cam! I like the close up of what you are doing, like the angels of the cut and how you seem to make undercuts and back cuts match perfectly every time. I like seeing how you size up the fall from a POV perspective. We can hear you talk better also.
