- Oregon is now the last unbeaten after a chaotic Week 13 in College Football that saw 3 Top 25 teams lose to unranked foes. Has Dan Lanning given Oregon its best-ever chance at a national championship?
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin discusses the Oregon ground game--which has been solid but has room to improve. Might OC Will Stein run QB Dillon Gabriel more in the Ducks' remaining games? 9:38
Florida State's chaotic/disaster season might soon impact Oregon, as Co-DC Chris Hampton was listed as a potential defensive coordinator replacement. Plus, a pair of high-profile visitors made their way to Eugene over the weekend as the early signing window looms. 21:01

it’s been hate week all year long, looking forward to this game, don’t want to risk injuries but oh lord would a 21+ point win feel fantastic
Thinking up the excuses already.Oregon was resting players, this game didn't matter, still in BIG10 Championship game This game will matter if they lose to Ohio St who they barely beat at home.
Just like Ohio state barley beat Nebraska. It's not like oregon won't be better when they play again. I think the big ten championship will be a better game than the Natty this year
Losing Dennis Dixon was a big reason why Oregon wasn’t able to win a national championship.
Novel insight there, Captain Obvious.
P.S. Here's a fun football fact for you: Running quarterbacks are injury liabilities-especially when they're built like beanpoles.
That team would of played and won a natty
The only duck podcast I watch
Spencer’s memory of the painful past is impressive. Dyer was down, DeAnthony Thomas doesn’t block for Mariota….
Let’s hope that this year is only good times
Bingo. This guy doesn’t know much about Ducks history.
He didn't remember that Cliff Harris picked off Cam Newton inside Oregon territory. He had possession with a foot down and the replay booth called it incomplete. Completely changed the game because Auburn went on to score that possession.
@@Tee-duck I meant it as a compliment. He’s much younger than I am, and I sat through the “ toilet bowl” civil war game
Offense is gonna have to take another step. We can’t afford 10 3&outs. Red zone offense needs to work out some kinks also
I think he could be a Saban for Oregon
Hasn’t won one yet and comparing him to saban!!😂😂😂😂😂
@@danielcantrell9227no one said he was comparing them i think he means that at one point given he wins a natty this year he could be that person for oregon read in context brother
Well considering he’s been on 7 national champ Coaching staffs you need to eat your words buddy
I think Dan and oregon could be on a saban and bama type trajectory given our recruiting prowess and elite coaching moments. Dan is young has a lot to learn still, but I like how he is building and not accepting anything less of elite.
@@danielcantrell9227reading comprehension ain’t your bag and it shows, fruity.
Idk Spencer, Michigan defense is still really good and it’s a rivalry game. I think they will give the Buckeyes a better fight than Indiana did…particularly upfront on that O line
Here's hoping for a Thanksgiving miracle.
It would be funny AF if that happened
We all thought Bama was 💯 beating Oklahoma too but shit happens. Gonna laugh my ass off of Ohio State loses.
Duck will beat Ohio state again
💪
🦆🦆
Huck the Fuskies!!!!!! It’s officially hate week and I’m here for it 😈
I watched that Ducks vs Them 10x and no less. HUCK THE FUSKIES! FEBU, LETS GO WIN A NATTY! DYER WAS DOWN!!!!!!
knocking on wood for Marcus Harper II returning soon to the O line
Another good one Spence. Regarding losing coordinators, I really like that our HC was a championship winning DC. So, DL is essentially our defensive coordinator. When we Los coaches, that side of the ball can handle the changes better.
Can’t say that until this team actually gets to the NCG!
👍 BUTTON!!!
As always, Spencer Rules!
Haven't watched the video yet. last year was quite a missed opportunity, IMO. Still the 4 team era... In Washington just sort of hit organs Achilles heel and played their best ball against the Ducks. I think Oregon would have a really good shot against almost any other team last season. So I think there's a case to be said that.... With the 4 team playoff, with Bo Nix and against most teams... Ducks could have looked pretty strong to win the natty last year.
I agree 100% we choked our opportunities away vs UW last year. I still believe we were the better team than them.
Washington is a top-20 defense.
For any coach to leave Oregon for Florida State would be a MASSIVE Mistake. The ongoing issue at Florida State IS the culture. It's pathetic! Extremely difficult to fix. The cultivation of the culture at Oregon has been masterful and foundationally impactful and will be for the long term. Rebuilding a pathetic culture is a heavy heavy lift. Why do that to yourself???
I agree. The thing that players love about Dan (I’m guessing here, with literally no inside context) is his loyalty and the fact that he is genuine. It’s better for him if he stays I believe. Not sure I could handle him leaving honestly it might leave me emotionally devastated.
Sharp, Informative, insightful and on point commentary, as usual, Spencer. The Truth is that, in Football, success goes through the Offensive Line. The better your Offensive Line is, the better your chances are of controlling what happens in the game and winning. So far this season, Oregon has not been successful in running between the tackles. I want nothing more than for Oregon to win out BUT if Oregon's run game does not improve, the Washington game will be closer than it needs to be, Oregon will lose the B1G Championship game and will not make it past the second game in the playoffs. However, if the run blocking improves, allowing the backs to be more successful in running between the tackles, resulting in greater control of the game, Oregon has a real chance to win the National Championship. We'll know soon enough. GO DUCKS!
Ohio states biggest weakness is interior offensive line as well. As thin as we may be there, I’d still give us the ad there. Is it our best o-line ever? No, but it is good and getting better with injuries slowly healing.
Hot take~
All these doubters on your comment section sound like my dad who always undercuts the ducks. Jaded by growing up watching oregon football in the 70s/80s and cant appreciate exactly what this team is has accomplished this season.
I think thay will be willing to put it all on tape in the big ten title game and going forward it feels like with such a long season and injuries thay have been holding back a little
Im not going to panick about our running game. Tez been out and teams feel lets load up closer to the line. Cant do that when Tez comes back.
Curious how the redshirt status works in this new playoff era. My understanding was that a player could play in four games during the regular season AND their bowl game (likely due to players sitting out?). How does a potential four game playoff factor in to this redshirt status? Could, theoretically, a player partricipate in four regular season games and all four playoff games and still maintain a redshirt?
playoff games don't count so a player could theoretically play 9 games. 4 regular season games, Conference championship, and 4 playoff games and would still maintain the redshirt
Considering they lost to Auburn by three with two game-changing bad calls, I can't agree this is the best shot. Dyer was down and Cliff Harris completed an interception inside Oregon territory. That's about as close as you come without winning a title. Auburn went on to score after they failed to call it an interception. That changed the game drastically. Oregon really should've won that game.
th-cam.com/video/A6zOwAZfVww/w-d-xo.html Here is the pick. The ball wasn't bobbled as it maintained contact with his chest and arm the entire time.
The SEC teams definitely seem to have come back to the pack.Ohio St and Oregon have gotten better.Winner of BIG10 should be the favorite.
Akili Smith Sr. could run.
Loosing Harper changed everything. Get Harper back healthy and the offense will click once again.
Not a fan but yes
The reasons you are you are wrong is there are simply too many games to play. With every game a player or two will go down. The odds were simply better when you only needed 2 to win out. CFB aint the big dance. If Burch, Harper and Tez are 100% then our chances improve dramatically. Spence is too young to recall Aub's and tOSU finals.
Proof is in the pudding... so they say. I think that came from Missouri fans
2010- were more talented than Auburn but that auburn team was full of Juniors & Seniors….. & the heisman winner Cam Newton.
2014- Are top 2 wideouts were injured & our 3rd was suspended for smoking weed.
2014 we had a better shot if Mariota isn’t throwing to Keenan Lowe along with 4th & 5th stringers.
Probably 😅
Our running back is average ok but not great…
I can see the next team Oregon plays, or Ohio state to put pressure on
Dillion. Dillion makes bad choices under pressure, let alone the throws
that are low and behind the receivers. If a team plays were the ball will
be thrown and not the wideout the int's will increase for Dillion. Oregon
gets beat by Ohio state and in the next game of the new playoff era.
end of story.
Looses isn’t a word. I think you meant to say WINS
@@AaronHopkins-xt2gx ok,,,,,, take care.
Dillon "sometimes" makes bad choices under pressure, like all good QBs do. Even the best of them. Howard made a super bad choice under the pressure Oregon applied to him as time ran out. Also, as long as you're counting Dillon's INTs, we might as well count the number of times you misspelled his name (i.e., 3). That gives you 3 INTs on knowing how to spell the very person you're trying to dis. Gotta up your spelling game first, then your fact game!
No. 2010 , 2012, 2014. Teams were all better.
Markus Marriota is not the best buy in ducks history right now it's Justin Herbert his skill set transferred to NFL better than Markus
Markus had Chip Kelly, Justin had Mario. Chip Kelly would have done magical things with Justin Herbert over 4 years.
@@dannewth7149 Marcus had Helfrich.
Oregon will have to beat OSU probably 3 times and I don't think any team can do that, not even Oregon. I wish it weren't so but this is how things are shaping up. Might actually be better if OSU wins the rematch in the conference title game and Oregon gets the rubber-match in the playoffs even uf they surrender the homefield bye, Dunno. Not a good situation.
Don't discount the psychological hit OSU would take if it lost the conference title game. They'd be bringing that shame with them into the 12 team playoff and it's always possible that one of the other power teams will beat them, which will provide OSU with even greater shame and disappointment in not being able to match up a 3d time with the 🦆🦆.
WIN THE DAY!!!
Heck no…kelly by far we almost won in 2009 we could have easily have lost 3 this yr
Kelly was and is over rated
We still have possibly 5 games left. Way too early to be talking about having a chance to win the whole thing when we aren’t even close to making the game yet. Let’s see how we look vs Washington first, so much can happen between now and when the playoff starts. If we continue to looks shakey on offense I don’t like our chances. And even tho we beat Ohio State, just eyeball test they look like they could easily be the number 1 team in the country with that defense. Let’s win the conference first…you know since Dan hasn’t done that before. One step at a time…if we beat UW and then Ohio State then yeah things start getting real
So we have to win the next 2 games before things start looking good? 11-0 doesn't give you the same vibes
@@Lilllingstoner considering Dan has never won a conference title or beat the huskies…yeah I’d feel a lot better if we win the next 2 games. The last two games haven’t been good..so no I don’t get those natty vibes..YET. We are still 2 months away from the national championship game.
The answer is obvious: NO!
Why? Because we haven’t played for a national title under Lanning. We did under Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich.
To be fair that Ohio State game. It’s Urban Myer oh and a 3rd string QB that could have won the heisman at any other school
Helfeich just took chip and his recruit there is all
Oregon has a defense this year that is truly good unlike 2014. That’s the main difference. Ohio State won’t be able to run the same play with Judkins 20 times in a row like they did Ezekiel Elliot in 2014..but that’s about the only difference. I think Ohio States 20 million dollar roster is still a bit better.
Sooooo it has to be an off year for the Ducks to have their best shot?
I’m the biggest Duck Fan probably ever and with that said Dyer was not down. Trust me I have analyzed that play literally like 125 times.
