To deter bystanders from making negative comments or glaring, you should offer a pair of detachable, clip-on signs saying "Special Needs Harness" and/or something more specific if the customer desires. (A day ago I saw, on a medical site, a tethered vest-like garment containing the words “Autism / non-verbal.”)
A random customer survey would suggest how many would pay for such an add-on, and how much.
Maybe also offer, as other vendors do, a clip-on, piggy-backing, stuffed animal as camouflage; kids like it, and it is popular for glare-deference too.
And here’s clip-on comment-deterrence sign for parents of “darters”: a thick red diagonal slash atop a photo of a child running right in front of an oncoming car. (I saw this 20 minutes ago.) Perhaps with “Darting” slashed through too.

Hi Roger, Thank you so much for your comments. I do offer a small tag that can be added to the harness so curious members of the community will know the child is wearing it for medical reasons. Anything hanging from the harness can be extremely irritating for the child. Similarly with the animal backpack ones - the bulk at the back of the neck can be an issue for some children. Thanks for watching! E

Good suggestions, but I find comedy works well in those situations. Make a joke about it. I like to say my son "is walking me." You'll be surprised how people's demeanor changes when you can joke about a situation where they are judging you based on ignorance.

Hi Hype House! Thanks for watching my demo video and thank you so much for your comment. Yes! You are not alone! Many people feel the same way as yourself. However, some children with autism (unlike the little boy in the video who is neurotypical and was helping me with the demo), have the urge to bolt, called elopement. Children who elope have no sense of danger and can dart away from their caregivers and into traffic without warning and get hit by cars. They also tend to be very interested in water and will run to ponds and lakes without stopping, and drown. For these children, a harness is a life-saver, literally. And a huge sense of relief for their parents and caregivers. I hope this broadens your understanding of why in some cases it is critical for some children to wear a harness. The goal is always 'no harness' and most children get there, but some need to wear a harness their entire lives. Does this help? I hope so! Much love to you, God bless. E

I have a 7 years old son who has epilepsy, and drops anytime while walking...this strap will save him, so please thank such people for working to save children with disabilities rather than just throwing negative comments

@@charliegamesroblox8976 harnesses are not child abuse, but what is child abuse is putting kids in a situation in witch they can be harmed simply because they do not yet have the understanding necessary to keep them selves safe. a harness allows kids both nurotypical and special needs to safely explore and learn about the environment around them in a way that is acceptable and secure.
