I agree, I think the reason it didn't get more likes is because it pops up as the first video people see when they search up this topic, however, it doesn't take them to youtube itself where it can be liked and commented on, it instead just opens it up right there to a timestamp of whatever Google/any other browser thinks you need. It did this for me as well. I had to click on the youtube icon/word at the bottom left before it let me like or comment on the vid. Great vid btw Archades!
Awesome! Looking forward to all the individual core videos to come! Can you also make a quick video going over all the best cores for each system on the Mac M1?
absolutely incredible video. one question, when I go into the "online updater" submenu (v1.20.0) I do not see "core downloader" - I downloaded retro arc from the App Store. Is this the reason? Everything else was essentially the same up to now, except this....do I have the get it straight from the website instead?
is flypast no longer supported? mine used to work just fine now all the sudden the core won't load (Mac m2) I tried fresh tetrarch install but still flycast not loading
The issue I’m having is with my Switch Pro Controller. It works and I can access the launchpad with the home button. But retroarch isn’t recognizing it or receiving any inputs. Except in the device index it says Pro Controller.
@ArchadesGames, I found a way to make RetroArch completely portable, as we can do in Windows, with all its folders on the SSD instead of defaulting to the Document and Library folders. Please let me know so you can make a video of it.
Hi. I´m having lots of troubles to get started with my Retro Arch. I've followed all the moves you've explained in the vídeo but i'm getting no results. Help? Please? ;)
I recently got an M1 macbook pro and was hoping to use RetroArch on it. After installing it, all I get is a window with nothing inside. No interface whatsoever. not sure what the problem is. Could it be because I migrated my full profil and files from the previous macbook over to the new one?
Hello! I am struggling to add Antarctic Adventure's thumbnail to my NES collection on Mac, Windows seems to have a nice desktop UI for that, but no matter what i do, cannot get it to display, or import custom thumbnails. Please consider making a video on custom thumbnails for mac. Thanks
make sure the name of the .png is exactly the same as the rom, including the upper/lowercase letters and spaces. only the extension should vary .png vs .nes, the rest of the filename needs to be exactly the same. and the thumbnail needs to be in the correct thumbnails directory. there are 3 per console: boxart, screenshots and title screen. from the retroarch configuration you choose which thumbnails you want, i think i have mine setup as boxart + screenshot.
is anyone having problems on gettin the retrobit saturn controller working on reatroarch? the "gamepad tester" a web-tester i found does identify it; the retroarch seems to completely ignore.
solved: Settings. > Drivers > Controller > HID (no idea what that is, just trial and error and got it working). The retrobit control must be in direct input mode (red light)
I have a DualShock 3 from my PS3 i want to use on a M1 mac, i connect to it with a USB cable and it recognizes it istantly, but it does not respond to any kind of input, what should i do?
Anyone got a Logitech controller working? Retroarch sees it and I can manually program the d-pad, but none of the other buttons or sticks. Same controller works fine in steam and my Commodore 64 standalone emulator
could you list the default directories on which retroach saves its configuration files, cores, etc on apple? on linux it's ~/.configure/retroarch but i'm working on an installation script(with plenty of enhancements) for apple users, and i dont have an apple computer.....and the documentation i've read so far isnt very helpful. all i need are the paths, or if it's like linux where everything is under ~/.configure/retroarch by default.
psyched about this. watching now, saving playlist, will be back for more
I am looking forward to getting more finished for it!
Damn bro you make it look so easy Im having such a hard time with this
Absolutely incredible job. Very informative, went the extra mile, clear and direct. Good good video holy crap
This video is really helpful, and it deserved more likes I'm shocked

I only cover the cores I recommend using so hopefully that will help out a bit when I get them finished 😅 I will try to make a list in the meantime.

Yes you need standalone for the full functionality
is flypast no longer supported? mine used to work just fine now all the sudden the core won't load (Mac m2) I tried fresh tetrarch install but still flycast not loading
Awesome guide! Which video driver do you recommend to use on an M1 Mac?
It should be set to Vulkan.
@@ArchadesGames why? Metal should be much better in paper. Is it worse or buggy
Hardly any cores support Metal so they won't work
@@ArchadesGames I see
12:02 there is no "online updater" for me on RetroArch Steam, I have "Load Cores" and it only lists a tiny fraction of Cores 😭
Use standalone Retroarch, steam version sucks
@@ArchadesGames thanks, i agree, i did the same, standalone is so much better

Probably. Try removing ~/Library/Application SUpport/Retroarch folder. (~ is your user directory)
is there away to dump textures and edit them? I know you can do that on windows but what about doing on MAC?

Does this still work today? 7 months after video was released?
Yes
Worked for me 2 days ago. Thanks for the tutorial!
Tried on Sonoma?@@paulgunn890
How come I can't add my Bios to the Retro Arch Drive itself?

It probably needs a driver
is it possible download core dolphin?
Don't waste your time on Retroarchs crap version of Dolphin
My SNES remote isn’t connecting 😢
says directory not found even though there's games there
Anyone got a Logitech controller working? Retroarch sees it and I can manually program the d-pad, but none of the other buttons or sticks. Same controller works fine in steam and my Commodore 64 standalone emulator
12:50 i don’t have an emulation folder?
You make your own
@@ArchadesGames oh ok how do we do that
Make a folder and add your stuff to it that you provide yourself.
some one tookdown the retroarch website
Unfortunate

/Users/MyUsername/Library/Application Support/RetroArch/config/retroarch.cfg on my system

thanks!
i will add that to my installation scripts.
First ! :)
Woot!
