So, the publisher Playism banned the biggest fan-made community and STOLE its members (by hiring them as official jobs at Playism) to turn against the fan-made communities so the company could get ahead, pretty awful and not right to do this to people, not to mention the company Playism has been doing an insane amount of really bad things to it''s consumers, we'd like to expose it along with all the harassment and damages the company is doing to it's users and the general public. If this gets even half the community that RPG maker has then it might be a good option. I'd imagine the plug in scene will be where this program will shine.
At first I watched your previous PGMMV review video, I hesitated to buy it, but eventually bought it, and to me it was worth the money. As a visual artist, I don't like the code very much, for me it is quite a headache and difficult to learn. That's why visual scripting language is what I'm aiming for and PGMMV has most of what I need. Yes, it has a lot of bugs and an unfriendly user interface, but it often updates with significant improvements. And now that it has made an official release with the promise of improving the UI of the developer, I have to say I don't regret buying it. It no longer crashes like it used to, everything works fine. One minus point is that sometimes it loses text on the UI buttons, I have to restart the software to get rid of it. I really love your channel and it would be great if you make a video tutorial about it
not an artist or coder.. but reinventing the core systems in code for a game is usually what drags me always... I believe this is the one having tried Defold and GMS2
It can't be that bad. There are at least three games made in PGM MV on Steam. Namely, "Dickie A Cumming', 'Pension Day' and 'Someone Cloned The President'. Pretty cool!
I'm downloading the demo to see it for myself, but if this is good for 2D scrolling games as RPG Maker is for rpg, then this engine is definitely a god send! I always wanted to make some 2D SD games myself and the best engine I found for it was Unity, which is amazing but if this new engine can make it easier for me then I would definitely switch out.
This is pretty awesome looking now, it definitely wasn't before. I'm going to give it a try just for a hobby type thing. Would definitely love to see a tutorial or other getting started kind of video.

After using it for a while and get somewhat used to it's interface I must say I like it, you could make a plaformer, top-down or arpg or whatever 2d game you can think of quickly, this software needs more recognition, it's good for amateurs imo. With that said, it's still too new so there aren't many large or impressive games made with it as compared to RPG Maker, Clickteam software or any other amateur/non-programming game dev tool that's been around for longer.
So it's still not even fully localised? Why is there still Japanese text in the animation editor? It's fair enough in early access, but in an official release that's really not acceptable imho.
@@MakkusuOtaku Most westerners do not speak or read Japanese, so it seems pretty stupid to release a product to a western market if not even the interface is properly translated. It also looks completely unprofessional to do so.
@@MakkusuOtaku No, I'd prefer them to translate it to the best of their ability. What exactly is it that you think cannot be translated? A lot of people in the comments are missing the point about the true function of this program. The intention is not to provide a tool for creating professional games. Like RPG Maker, the function is to give the layman the chance to create a simple game in a more or less intuitive way, without requiring a more formal training or something. Virtually everyone who bought RPG Maker uses it as a hobby. They create JRPGs for the fun of creating characters, plot lines, etc. and then share with friends or on internet forums. This program basically tries to convey the same philosophy to platform games. The problem is that platform games are infinitely more complex than JRPGs and that's why the interface looks so confusing. Either way, for a child, teenager, or even an adult who has no time or interest in learning programming, but finds the act of designing games interesting, this type of program is very nice.
18:00 Another really important question I'd like to ask is if this programme is not recommended, then what would you Mike, & everyone else recommended as the best action game maker (among those which are easier to use for beginners, such as this one)?
"1, 2 and 3 of what?" Page 1, page 2 and page 3 because there are too many functions to fit on one page on most resolutions, not that hard to figure out.
I would be very interested in tutorials. Specifically just a traditional rundown of Megaman X style movement. Airdashes, wall jumping, double jumps, dashes and making attacks chain for small combos.
Update: The tutorial is so buggy, I literally cannot get by step 7 without crashing or having the tutorial ui stuck not progressing. While it has great potential, the tool is not ready for the customer. Even the crash reporter crashes when you click ok to exit it. So disappointing, if they had videos of the tutorial to get me up and running, I could have remade my game in this engine and even been farther along! I added slopes in the demo which is something I haven't figured out how to code in my game yet. I installed the 30 day trial and started the plat-former tutorial. I must say I am really impressed so far. It is is rough around the edges, but amazed at how fast a level can be created with this tool. I hope Steam has a sale soon.
@21:23 - Yes, I'd be interested in seeing a tutorial, please. Also, I'd love it if someone can tell me whether this programme has the capabilities of making a game like Sega's "The Story Of Thor" AKA "Beyond Oasis", which is considered both an action-adventure, & RPG in one, as well as having a diagonal bird's eye (top-down) view of the world. Is this style & viewpoint possible?
I believe you couldn't program new keys because you were attempting to program a keyboard key under the controller box. I think if it showed what the code was for the weird drag and drop programing I would be able to learn a little about code, but I don't know anything about code so I might be wrong.
my biggest question is... is this still buggy like Indie game maker ? I was tried Indie game maker and its buggy like coalition detection is bad and ect ect... If its good then I really want to buy this because I simply want to make some simple game just for fun
