Incidentally, I just made my first purchase of some paper, ink and ink samples from your company. What a great experience from beginning to end. You could teach a lot of businesses a thing or two about customer service. The packaging from Crystal W was incredible. I just like to commend companies that get it right because so, so many don't. Thanks!
Mate you saved my Lamy. I had old caked up ink which no matter what I could not clean out. With the feed dismantled I could rinse it out. Writes like a dream. Cheers.
In my first-time attempt to change out a Lamy nib, the feed popped out. And jammed when I put it back in. I was able to extract it, reposition it, and slide it in smoothly thanks to your video. Thanks so much!
You just saved my pen!!! The feed came out accidently while I was attempting to replace a nib (and i couldn't be bothered with soaking it for awhile). I knew it shouldn't be as hard as I was making it to get back in - but rotating it to find some mysterious orientation on a black pen with black ink wasn't working. The pen was my very first Lamy and I'm very attached to it ❤ Thanks again for the informative videos and being such a great pen company!🎉
Mine wasn't crooked but it was seriously stuck. For the lack of any other ideas, I took some clipper/wahl oil, put about 10 drops into the top and left the feed/section sit for an hour nib end facing down. Gripped it and a few wiggles later, popped right out.
thank you! I was able to fix my Lamy CP1 after damaging the feed trying to replace a nib on my own without watching videos ahead of time. I was able to order a replacement feed and figured out how to get it the old one out by another method but was very careful on inserting it after your warning on here and knew exactly what to look for and to stop immediately if it was meeting resistance.
Brian, you are my hero :-). You've always been my "go to" person when I need advice on my pens and inks and again you have come up trumps showing the correct way to insert the feed into my Lamy Safari. Thank you so much for these great and totally reliable videos.
I bought a new Studio and when it arrived I tried to change the nib from fine to medium and ended up pulling the feed out and I wrecked it. Pen never got inked. I'm hoping a replacement nib will fix it. This video is a great help. I wish replacement feeds were easier to get though.
On the Lamy Safari, if the feed is not coming off easily and is not jammed in wrong either, then it's the ink residue which has built up around the feed and is holding it in. To remove, simply soak the pen in some warm water first and then in iso-propyl alcohol. Don't use the converter to pull in alcohol. As the gummed up ink deposits are slowly dislodged, your feed will come out easily. I've done this many times and no damage to the pen whatsoever. Bonus tip: On the Lamy Safari, the feed is made up of two parts. There is a thin long piece on the dorsal side of the feed. To remove this for cleaning, insert your nail into the little divot on the rear of the feed just before the tail section. Lots of ink deposits to be removed from under this section. Just be gentle while pulling it out.
I kind of wish I would have watched this video BEFORE I sheared off the tip of my Vista! You made removing the feed a whole lot easier than I found it to be - I needed the jaws-of-life to get it out. Of course, I can't tell you why I wanted it out as badly as I did. I'm a pen dunce.
This (like all your other ones) is a great video! Unfortunately I found it too late. Now I have a destroyed feed and nib and a hole in my thumb ;(. It's sad that Lamy does not sell the feeds separately. Good thing the Safaris aren't that expensive. Keep up the great channel.
My Vista had been stuck for last one day after I accidentally dropped it. I tried the conservative ways but none of the worked.. at last I decided to open up the feed n searched online. Thanks for showing the way... My pen is working fine now... Thanks..
I just did this to my Lamy Alstar. Feed came out accidentally and following Brian's video it went back in perfectly! If you have damaged a Lamy feed you can send it back to Lamy U.S.A. and they will fix it for you. $9.50 at the time of this writing. Ask me how I know..........Yep, this was my 2nd rodeo with Lamy feeds.
Thanks a lot! Thanks to the guidance in this video, I could fix the flow issues in my Lamy Vista, which I had been afraid to try before for fear of damaging or breaking or in some way screwing up the pen. 🙏
Thank you very much for showing this. I have that exact transparent pen and some ink made its way into the feeder which doesn't look very nice but which seemed impossible to clean. I still have no idea how it happened, but now I know at least how to take it apart. Once I receive the ink that I prefer (for some reason I have to order purple online because nobody stocks it) I'll give it the careful clean it deserves!
Thank you for posting this video! I went to remove the nib and the whole feed came out! It was not good! Putting it back in, I got stuck and you are right - not so easy to fix. I seem to be fixed now. So thank you very much!
Where can I buy a replacement feed for the Lamy Safari? I jammed mine and had to use a gripper to get the old one out. Its now not the same shape it was before:)
My alstar feeder Popped out while trying to replace the nib. While trying to put the feeder back it stuck then i tried to force it back but it did not worked. After watching your video tried to pull but no chance. Used some wd40 and with the help of a handtool i managed the feeder out. Appreciate your informative video. Keep up Goodyear Work👍🏻

Thanks very helpful video and even easier to find. Thankfully I noticed that there was a trick to putting the Lamy feeder back and decided to look for your video (I knew there must be one) and fixed the problem. Next on my things to do list is buying pens from Goulet Pens. 😊👍
Hi, Hoping you're doing good! I have a Lamy studio the metal finish with the black grip. Actually i was pulling off the nib for usual cleaning & somehow thr feed also came off. Please advise through a video how to put it back perfectly. I font want to destroy that pen. It's very old & expensive too. Thanks a lot
Wish I knew this before buying the pen, the angle at which I hold my pen makes it necessary that the nib should be at a slight angle to the seam, but the "rails" will make it impossible to adjust the feed angle a little bit to match my writing angle.
This answers a question for me. I got a safari and prefer gripping the pen upside down (pointer finger on top rounded bit than in the v) looks like i can't switch it. Thanks for the video.

The way Lamy has the grip , at least the way I hold the pen the nib isn’t straight it’s like to the side a little bit... should I take the nerve and feed out and put it in a way where the net would be straight to my personal grip??
Same as all the other TWSBI pens actually, 540, Mini, Vac-700....just unscrew the grip with the nib unit in there, screw on the new one. It's pretty straightforward, but I can look to put together a quick video that shows just this technique.
It can be very difficult to remove it without damaging it. It's likely that the nib will be permanently messed up - but you can always just pull it out with some soft pliers and hope that it's ok! -- Drew
@gouletpens I'm finding it hard to find a replacement feed for my Lamy Safari, especially in Canada. Any suggestions? (I know this post is quite old but I'm still hoping you can help)
I pulled the feed out first try when i was trying to remove the nib when i just got the lamy safari but unfortunately the nib did not come out i am very bummed by this and i do not know why my nib wont come out i also bought a second one and it also didn't budge.
Dear Brian, thank you for this very informative and clear video. I would like to ask you a question. Today I "accidentally" took the feed half-way out of the grip while I was actually trying to slide off only the nib. And, later I could not push the feed all the way back where it was. Now it looks like your pen in the video on 2:28. The feed is still out and it does not move. Interestingly, even though I did not rotate the feed, it is now jammed and disoriented and I think that's the problem (I realized it after watching your video). What should I do in such situation? Best!
Yeah, sounds like its just not lined up correctly. Removing the feed and trying to rotate it around until it can line up and fully push in is probably your best bet. - Colin
@@Gouletpens Yes! With the help of a plier, I was able to take the jammed feed out and following to your warnings about how sensitive the channel is now I am able to take it out and insert back as I wish. Thanks!
I'm not saddened....the first time I accidentally pulled out the feed I unwittingly put it in the wrong way and destroyed it trying to pull it back out. It's easy to do. I don't think it's a matter of thinking, because a lot of pens give the kind of resistance you feel when putting this feed in wrong...you just don't realize it here until it's too late.
My Vista grip section is holding on to that feed for dear life sadly... I hope I 'll be able to get it out at some point, it would seriously cut down on rinse and dry time in cleaning!
aight so i rewatched the video and took a long f-in look at my own vista and guess what, you can't do this anymore, lamy changed the construction and now there's a little nub holding the feed in place. guess i'll have to wait a month before all the condensation is out of my vista

For inks like that, paper plays a huge part in it. I'd recommend Tomoe River paper to see what the ink has to offer. Also, try using pen flush to clean out the feed before swapping it out. - Colin
Thankyou! My girlfriend likes fountain pens a lot, and I want to make her one (and experiment) but a) making the feed/nib is a waste of time b) buying the complete set to extract the pieces feels wrong. XD Will contact LAMY for that ^^
It's not Lamy, but Noodler's does sell replacement feeds (www.gouletpens.com/noodlers-ahab-konrad-replacement-feed/p/N18095). Could be a starting point if you're trying to frankenstein a pen. - Colin
Unfortunately, Baystate Blue is a tough one. I would recommend giving the pen a soak in pen flush and warm water and see if that helps. You can also use bleach to clean up Baystate Blue but be careful to make sure you flush it entirely out of the pen or you could damage the pen. Brian talks about it here: th-cam.com/video/MqQGGq0Rqr4/w-d-xo.html -Lydia
Mine stuck and then I tried to get it out with way to much pressure and then the feed broke inside the pen :( I ended up throwing my 1 month old lamy pen away :(
Oy. Too late for me. It came out when I tried to pull out the nib with the tape thing. I thought I had it in the channel, but I didn't realize it shoudln't have resistance. Then I felt the grip and realized I'd put it in ALL wrong. Now it's sitting there mocking me. I'm going to try to remove it again, but I expect to destroy it. :( Thank you for this video, though. I won't feel so bad about making a mistake like this if I can't fix it.
It's not obvious at all that the guide parts are in there...or at least not on my Noodler's Ahab. I watched a video of someone else messing with the nib and feed and they didn't mention it, so I didn't realize it was there until Brian did.
I just watched your Video on how to remove the Nip and accidentally pulled the whole Feed out and thought i broke my Pen. Good to know that this is an actual feature and i did not break it. But how do i remove my Nip now cause it wont lmao..
+The Goulet Pen Company A bit late to this discussion, but anyway. As a matter of fact Parker cartridges do fit in the Lamy, I use them in my Safari all the time. The only problem you may find is that the cart can be a little loose compared to the official ones, it will often stay behind in the barrel when you unscrew, but it doesn't leak and it feeds fine so long as you insert it properly.
I just decapitated my Safari feed :( I think I bent it during cleaning and it wouldn't go all the way down, so I resorted to pliers to try again. Oh well, I've got a Vista on the way now, so I guess that gives me an extra nib to play with.
I bought this pen 4 months ago and I tried to remove the feed and i can't... even though i made it wet and it was stuck in there! Have you got any tips?
Hi there I bought l bought lamy 2000 a few days ago. Fantastic writer. I did the same mistake that I removed the nib&feeder and when I reinserted, it was malaligned and I sent it back to the distributor. NEVER EVER do this mistake.
Adding to the sad stories of "this video was too late for me"...I was trying to remove the nib of my LAMY Al-Star with a piece of tape, and took the feed halfway out by accident. I reacted too quickly, jammed the thing back in...now as another user said, i need the jaws of life to rescue it, and that would destroy the feed. :( And I have a blister on my hand. Bleh. I guess this is my excuse to buy a LAMY LX...

My girlfriend likes fountain pens a lot, and I want to make her one (and experiment) but a) making the feed/nib is a waste of time b) buying the complete set to extract the pieces feels wrong. XD
Will contact LAMY for that ^^
It's not Lamy, but Noodler's does sell replacement feeds (www.gouletpens.com/noodlers-ahab-konrad-replacement-feed/p/N18095). Could be a starting point if you're trying to frankenstein a pen. - Colin
Woo, thankyou!
Hey, I think i kinda ruined my lamy vista by letting the ink dry out. The ink was noodlers baystate blue. Can you please opine???
Unfortunately, Baystate Blue is a tough one. I would recommend giving the pen a soak in pen flush and warm water and see if that helps. You can also use bleach to clean up Baystate Blue but be careful to make sure you flush it entirely out of the pen or you could damage the pen. Brian talks about it here: th-cam.com/video/MqQGGq0Rqr4/w-d-xo.html -Lydia
Just be sure to choose one or the other cleaning method. Don't mix the pen flush and bleach. -Lydia
@@Gouletpens Thank you so much Lydia... ❤ You're so helpful as always...
Mine stuck and then I tried to get it out with way to much pressure and then the feed broke inside the pen :( I ended up throwing my 1 month old lamy pen away :(
very helpfull! THANKS!
I did one for the 540, and it's exactly the same idea. Look up my video called "TWSBI Nib Swapping".
It's not obvious at all that the guide parts are in there...or at least not on my Noodler's Ahab. I watched a video of someone else messing with the nib and feed and they didn't mention it, so I didn't realize it was there until Brian did.
Was just wondering if the goulet pen company could order a white cap for a lamy safari
Thanks,
Steven.
@theinknouveau
Thank you!!!
iwould like a review of the safari vista mechanical pencil!!!!
I just watched your Video on how to remove the Nip and accidentally pulled the whole Feed out and thought i broke my Pen. Good to know that this is an actual feature and i did not break it. But how do i remove my Nip now cause it wont lmao..
Does the pen you are using, ( i think it is the lamy vista), support parker ink cartridges? Because from out they look the same.....
:-)
Kostas Tsempis Nope, they're different. Parker and Lamy both use proprietary cartridges, so neither works in each others' pens :P -Brian Goulet
thanks

A bit late to this discussion, but anyway.
IMelkor42 i know! i tried it bevause i have both parker and lamy and i used the lamy converter on parker and it worked fine! thanks for your answer.
I just decapitated my Safari feed :( I think I bent it during cleaning and it wouldn't go all the way down, so I resorted to pliers to try again. Oh well, I've got a Vista on the way now, so I guess that gives me an extra nib to play with.
Thank you!
I bought this pen 4 months ago and I tried to remove the feed and i can't... even though i made it wet and it was stuck in there! Have you got any tips?
Kostas Tsempis It takes a lot of force, possible something to grip with as well. -Margaret
thank you
Mine got jammed but it was facing the right way ;-;
Thanks ure life saver
I, too, found this video too late. I managed to un-jam my feed by using a syringe to force water-based lube through the pen, LOL.
Pretty exactly the same as a 540.
❤️
My feed was very stuck! I can pull it off using double-sided tape and pliers!
Do the dialog now haha
Many thanks!
