      I cant stand all those Steel snobs. Of Course a Blade made of s30v or cpm 154 is cool and very nice, i also own some of These high End knifes. But i hate when someone starts blaming people for ,,only having low End Steel"

    So I'm kindof a begginer, can anyone break down the way you guys view steel now in 2021,and what I should search for when looking for my EDC? Thanks guys

      Here is a great, in depth resource on steel: knifesteelnerds.com/

      Generally it will be a balance of edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance. Higher edge retention = harder to sharpen, though with diamond abrasives nothing is too hard to handle with time and patience. Steel is a complicated beast. Geometry has more bearing on how a knife will perform however and a design that is uncomfortable will likely not be carried.

    What are KVT ballbearings

      KVT=Kershaw Velocity Technology. Just what they call their bearing pivot.

    Message to KAI, listen to the knife community and ditch 8cr13mov for good. Ditch the coating too. Such a nice looking knife. Too bad.

    Good looking blade
    One that I wouldn't mind practicing my sharpening skills on 😊

    Tyler, 8Cr13MoV is an inferior blade steel. I wish they would release a sprint run in M390 of this knife.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Inferior to what and in what way? Seems like 8Cr13MoV gets a bad rap IMHO. It may not win in any cardboard cutting competitions but for every day use it works better than the basic carbon steels humans have been using for hundreds of years and sharpens just as easily.

    • @theavidpicker2721

      It is inferior to other inexpensive steels that have better specs. It does get a bad rap however, maybe it is a warranted reputation. It's a fine steel if you have the time and tools to keep it up. I'm sure I have been spoiled by the supersteels. Honestly, I am thinking that LC200N might be my favorite bladesteel. What do you think about LC200N Tyler?

    • @theavidpicker2721
      @theavidpicker2721 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basically inferior to the CPM steels.

    • @Gpknives
      @Gpknives  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So, are we talking wear resistance then? Don't have any personal experience with LC200N but it looks like a well balanced steel for EDC. Good edge retention, moderate toughness/easy of sharpening and, of course, great corrosion resistance. The nice thing about lower wear resistance steels is that they really only take a couple of passes to get razor sharp again while "super steels" often take an extensive process and special abrasives. 8Cr isn't anything exceptional in any category, just a solid working steel. I prefer Sandvik steels myself and use BD1 extensively and I find them to be in the realm of 8Cr.

    • @Gpknives

      🤷‍♀️ The steel won't win any performance awards but for the price it will get the job done. It has good geometry which is going to make a big difference in performance.
