I moved to Scotland nearly 20yrs ago, and for years I didn't voted, I just watched and learn the difference between Scotland and England and looked into each political party.
I then decided to support SNP, however, since 2016 I haven't voted. The last time I voted was for the Scottish referendum and this dumbasses voted to stay in the UK despite knowing that they will be ripped out of the EU by the English a few years later.
I, as an immigrant could see that!
Then, of course coming from an EU country, I, despite paying my taxes, being forced to do jury duty - what I despise, wasn't allowed to vote in the EU referendum.
Looking how things progress and considering right now I'm lucky working on a 18 month project where I get paid very well, 2025 is pretty much the definite year I will leave the UK.

A few years back I told a friend, an older gentleman, that the tories were embezzling money from public companies. He acted like I'd insulted his dead mother & stormed out of the pub. There was a similar incident with the same guy in the same pub at around that time regarding his very pro Brexit views.
A few years down the road, tories have been caught with their hands in the till & it's becoming increasingly clear that Brexit is a dead parrot.
I don't understand why it has to be a perceived authority figure making these claims before people will listen. All you've got to do is look at the evidence & connect the dots, but I suppose then they'd have to admit they were wrong. About all sorts of things. Something about celebrity status seems to shock some people out of their echo chambers & start to listen I guess.

These sort of comments are why there are people who won’t vote Labour because the believe Starmer is ‘TORY LITE’! @@davidmcculloch8490 Exactly , in so many seats a vote for any other party other than the incumbent is wasted. If I needed any other reason to support PR it was when the tories scrapped the election of Mayors and Police and Crime Commissioners from being under an AV system to back under FPTP . there is only one reason they have done this and that is because there are generally ( Reform aside ) two or three different parties of the centre and left fighting each other for many of the same voters where as the tories by and large have the right wing vote sown up . The biggest fear I have is over the vote for Mayor of London , a predominantly left leaning , progressive city . The voters from centre and left have a choice between Sadiq Khan for Labour , the Greens and Lib Dems . If George Galloway and or Jeremy Corbyn stand as left wing independents it complicates matters further and could see the diabolical Tory Candidate Susan Hall win with as little as 30% of the vote .

Therefore, not once has my vote actually mattered. Not once. And the same for the majority of people in this country, while the decision on the future of the country is determined by a couple of hundred thousand people who happen to live in “swing seats”, rather than the millions who don’t. We just voted in the national elections and we had 26 parties to choose from. The ballot paper is bigger than the ballot booth, unfolding and folding back the ballot paper takes more time than filling the box in front of the right candidate with the red pencil. We elected 15 parties in the Second Chamber of parliament. Forming a coalition government is a lengthy process because of that. I think a mix of both systems is a better system.

Two caveats regarding PR. Firstly, the Labour Party has always opposed it and has to be brought on board to support it. Secondly, the form of PR that is adopted need to be explained clearly to the electorate and needs to be a form of PR that really ensures every vote counts. Last time 10 years ago, when the Lib Dems tried to introduce PR, it was such a bad form of PR and so poorly presented and explained that the electorate rejected it.

Just use the simplest system, like the Dutch system. 10% of the votes = 10% of the seats. (In het Netherlands you need 0,666% of the votes to gain a seat in Parliament

The UK's political system is outdated and fundamentally flawed, as such it's not fit for purpose. Unfortunately the reality is there seems to be little support amongst the parties to actually drive forward meaningful change. Hell, as it stands now the two main parties of the UK represent far right and right.
Carol's voice is one sorely and desperately needed within the UK and we need more like her with the reputation and platform to drive for positive change.

There has to be some sort of change because at the moment politicians can just lie and lie and get away with it. Whereas a party can come up with a set of policies at election time, what must be avoided is someone being elected on a single platform and then if elected being able to pontificate on all sorts of subjects

The message about getting rid of First Past the Post becomes ever louder, which is encouraging for reformers like myself who have been campaigning on this issue for decades - what was once a ripple of discontent has now turned into a veritable tsunami of rage - we need to make electoral reform (as an integral element among general Constitutional Reform) THE number one doorstep issue - every single time anyone from a political party engages with you, the first thing you utter should be something akin to:
"Do you endorse a fully proportional voting method to elect Westminster MPs - if not, why not and you can forget my vote until you do"
If everyone does this, change will come, much quicker than we ever thought possible!
