I was also taught that if the edges don't match up after they are ripped along the grain, you should pull the fabric on opposite ends and in the middle until they are. Thank you for this tutorial.

I've tried the rip - the - fabric method at least ten times before and it never worked for me. Will try the string - pulling method shown here, though.

Is there any thing to keep in mind to avoid the fabric moving when cutting? I thought cutting fabric was no brainer until I got into sewing.
You can use fabric weights, press it with your hand while cutting with the other, pressing the ruler if you are using roller blade
