    Nice truck. Thanks for taking the time to review MT-90 sub zero. Thumb up for the dog riding shotgun.

      Thanks man! And an update on that since I've been driving it a lot now, it has done absolutely nothing for the grind. Even in warm weather. All it did was make it easier to shift in cold weather as in viscosity wise. Still grinds second and third gear. Gotta make an update video here soon

      If the synchros are worn, no oil is going to fix it haha. Maybe try double clutching or shift slower by easing it into the next gear. Also check the slave cylinder and clutch hose for any issues. I have the Toyota H150f and it has a well known defect for the 2nd gear. It is a real bear to shift back down even with double clutching, have to double clutch and rev match it. Upshift I have to shove it quick too as double clutching does not work either 😅

    I wish the Redline MT-90 was readily available at my local auto parts stores. I've never used the brand before. But maybe in the future I'll order it when I do the next fluid change. It's a GL-4 oil which is the recommended oil to put in these transmissions. GL-5 oil that's available anywhere is more slippery and may not help the synchros grip. But, I've used Lucas synthetic 75W-90, which is a GL-5 oil, and it works fine with no issues.
    I wish the transmission in my Toyota pickup was as quiet as yours. I took mine apart last month and just replaced the bearings and it still makes a whining noise lol. The only bearings I did not replace were the needle bearings on the main shaft (I now believe that is the source of my problem.). My transmission did not have any grinding issues, so I did not bother to replace the synchros while I was in there. If you have experience rebuilding D and B-series transmissions, you should be able to rebuild this Toyota Pickup transmission with no problems if you plan to do so in the future.

      I definitely don't recommend wasting the money on MT-90... now that it's warmer out and I've driven it a bit, it did absolutely nothing to help the slight grinding. All it did was help with getting it in gear sub zero temps. I'll have to experiment with some of those oils next time I change it. Also, really would like to try syncromesh in this first because that always helps with Honda transmissions, at least with my experiences. I've probably ran syncromesh in at least 8 different Hondas of my own plus friends cars. Helps with grinds and high hp/rpm racecars get into gear under strong loads, etc

    It's almost summer and mine brings when going into reverse but only in reverse..any ideas why?

    Thanks. Good and to the poin t. If older Toyota make sure filler will come loose before draining. Have you checked the shifter bushing? I have a 1991 4wd. Type 'toyota shifter bushing replacement' in youtube. parts cheap, easy install. I bet you already did this but I mention it if the grinding is only when shifting, not when driving. I loved that your dog goes with you. I miss my old girl. Died at 14 and always had to be with me. Thanks so much for that. Old men do cry, or at least get teary when it comes to dogs in trucks with them.

      It was definitely the syncros on this truck.
      Bushings are definitely another culprit for grinds though, for sure. Sold this truck, unfortunately, but I have a very neat Toyota coming here soon for my "new" work truck, so stay tuned for that if you like old Yotas, haha.
      Every day, I dread the thought of losing my dog. I'm sorry to hear about your pup, it sounds like she lived a long, happy life at least. She goes everywhere with me, such a loving dog. I found her abandoned on the interstate. I trained her to be off leash all the time. Just hops in and goes wherever I go. Losing a dog will bring any man to their knees, I don't care how tough they are

      My 87 Toyota pickup 22r ..grinds but only when going into reverse? Could this be the issue or would it be something else?

    • @KanjoBrothers
      @KanjoBrothers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @trailman20 reverse idler could be shot. Sometimes it will get worn/grinded down from getting throw into reverse while still rolling forward a lot. If someone did it a lot then it will cause it to grind every time you put it in reverse

    Do you have problems with defrosting from windshield? Whenever it gets cold and my heater is on it’s gets pretty foggy in there.

    I’m debating one of my maintenance portion. Would you recommend the transmission fluid getting changed? I bought mine with 157k miles automatic transmission and I checked it. It’s brown. Not sure if it ever been changed.

      Yeah, definitely change the fluid with automatic transmission fluid, not MT-90 though
