I could listen to this 1,000 times and it would never get old.
I think a violin would make this song absolutely brutal.
Not to criticise it in the slightest, it's a beautifully uneasy song. Maybe a violin would be too much. It's certainly not lacking a violin, but I just wonder.

just saw him last week. two and a half hour ride both ways in unseasonably cold temps. sounds as good if not better live. as an added bonus I was waiting out the drunks to hit the road. Jake walked out and we talked for a good fifteen minutes. very cool down to earth guy. he's good people all around in my book.

Is this song about sobriety and relapse from alcohol, also the bar scene? Temptation! 😂 Because that’s what I got from it. I’m glad I quit drinking and left it all behind me.
Beautiful and a little haunting. Your voice draws me in every time and your lyrics encourage me to listen longer. I am becoming a bigger fan with every song I listen to. Discovered you through SOA originally, will stick around and be a lifelong listener because of your gift for storytelling in song and drawing on emotion, that reminds me of Townes Van Zandt and Blaze Foley. Well done, yet again!

I bought stuff off of iTunes once, but was only able to download the songs once since it doesn't seem to have a library of stuff you own as far as I can tell or find out. Since then I don't trust that program with my money and I rather use Bandcamp or something like that. But this is an amazing song!

+Hallucination Aye, true enough. But as I'm currently traveling and have no options to play cd's that's not really an option. As far as digital services go iTunes is amongst the shittiest as far as I'm concerned, mainly because I can't find any of the stuff I've purchased on there.
I hear ya about travelling and not being able to carry physical copies around. I've never used itunes or any digital service period to purchase music. I'm quickly becoming a dinosaur if not one already haha
+Hallucination Not me haha, I'm a child of the modern age. I'm used to a lot of digital services, especially as a gamer it is more the norm than physical copies. Hell, some video games you buy as a physical copy only come with an installer that allows you to download the game.... Not a good practice, that one, but yeah. The internet is ever getting more important for stuff like that. But for music I like Bandcamp.com, you just register there and you basically get a library of all the stuff you purchased, available for download everywhere, while also allowing you to listen to the albums in their entirety instead of a 30-sec 'teaser'. And it offers a whole host of options for what you download the songs as. It can be regular MP3 or for example FLAC, which has better quality but is bigger in size. It has a lot of lesser known artists on there as well, which is great and another plus of the internet. It is easier for an independent artist or a writer to put their stuff out there without a publisher or company taking a cut. Yet at the same time it's more challenging to get the attention you need without their PR money.

I need cluing-in here. For the longest time I can only hear; "Singing, [To the bow, to bow, to the bow]" as in someone singing "To the bow" of a tree to be hanged.
Found one set of lyrics; "Singing a bye, a bye, a bye" - But that just doesn't feel right for the song and the narrative.
6 months later...
I think it's gibberish, he's reporting what the protagonist (himself) is singing, I hear it like:
