    Vera Caslavska was really amazing. She was athletic and artistic. There is no pause on her floor routine and dancing is exhausting, especially combined with tumbling. And her beam! Great rythm and flair. And what a courageous woman, to stand up against the Soviet invasion of her country. #legend

    Vera having to share the medal was some bullshit

    • @annnee6818
      @annnee6818 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Indeed. But there's no doubt Vera won it, history has decided. I have an Olympic book from 1980 that lists all Olympic champions, only Vera is mentioned for 1968, even by then it was decided that was some bullshit😉

    Damn @ 29:03 the commentator giving me some Austin Powers vibes....lol....."except for that disastrous start"....dude turned a tragedy into a farce with that entire commentary and I feel bad for laughing!

    They missed entire legends like Andreea Raducan, Simona Amanar and Svetlana Khorkina....and covered over the fact that the Chinese were using underage gymnasts for YEARS before they finally got caught. The biggest scam in gymnastics was taking away Raducan's all around gold for some freaking cold medicine. There was no way that gave her any kind of advantage as gymnastics is all about muscle memory. Pseudoephedrine would have negatively impacted her performance rather than enhance it. We all know why they did what they did- they didn't like that the Romanians had run the AA podium. Even the 4th place Chinese gymnast who was given bronze said that the Romanian women deserved the win.

      They were brilliant, yes. But I wouldn't say they were revolutionary to the extent these ladies were. Svetalana may be a contender given her ingenuity with her height, but I wouldn't say it's a revolutionary feat.

    No es por romperle la burbuja a la gimnasta de Checoslovaquia pero lo que la gente gritaba en los JO del 68 era "México" pais sede ese año, no "Checo" que imagino que ella pensó que era una abreviatura del nombre de su país. 😅
    Ahh pero ya vi, ella fue la gimnasta que se casó en México.

    This was not the first perfect 10 in history just at the Olympic Games. Nadia had scored another perfect 10 at the American Cup at Madison Square Gardens in spring of that year.

      Actually it was Věra Čáslavská of Czechoslovakia who achieve perfect 10 as a first one at a major competition. She did it twice at the 1967 European Championships (beam, floors).

      Evidently, when a gymnast performs way ahead of her time, the judges are not prepared. *Olga Korbut was seen as a circus gymnast in 1972, when she was revolutionizing this sport.* The first 10 will forever be Korbut's. Her asymmetrical parallel routine is the most iconic in gymnastics to date.

    Korbut is VERY self absorbed. At a very old age, she's still living in her own bubble. Such a pity.
