Very good, though unsuccessful stalk on the Red's and nicely taken Roe buck. I have a question. All of the hunting, that I and my freinds do here in Australia, is for meat animals and we always take a head / high neck shot when presented, to minimise meat loss. Why did Byron not take the same type of shot on that Roe spiker? It was close and not moving and so I cannot help but think it would be possible. Do you have a policy of heart / lung shots only? Cheers, Tony.
Most deer hunters don't take headshots because the shape of deers skulls. they are angled in such a way that they can sometimes deflect a bullet, even from an extremely powerful rifle. the sloping angle on their head sends the bullet whizzing off into the distance, then you've got a wounded deer and a stray bullet flying off in a random direction so not only is it inhumane, it's downright dangerous. A precise heart/lung shot is safer, guarantees a kill and most animals die within seconds
That's understandable mate, it does look bad but usually if the shot is well enough placed the deer will drop dead instantly, when this doesn't happen it's usually a combination of adrenaline and nerve impulses that make the animal jump
well, i didn't mean that at all. just got pissed off at the way that deer went crazy when it was shot. surely there's a way you can kill them painlessly..
+breyerfrieson If you have to many deer on the hill, they eat the young saplings and trees, pushing the tree line further and further down the hill. This then affects the water table and acidity of the soil in the area, and means more is washed down by rain and meltwater into the rivers. This then causes the rivers to swell beyond their natural size, which in turn causes flooding in villages, and also washes the small fish and other animals out of the rivers, ruining the diversity and wildlife in the water. When this happens, the small mammals and birds which rely on the ecological system produced by the animals found in/ around rivers and streams then also dwindle and become nothing. Think of birds of pray, otters, frogs...anything. We have no natural predators for deer in Scotland, wolves have been gone for 200 years, so something has to fill that void to keep the balance. So yes, you should be shooting them if they are carefully selected and the numbers appropriately managed, as the stalker talks of throughout the whole video.
The young lad gave a great explanation of the shot i thought, nice style of speaking! Well done, another great video! :)
Very good video and shooting too..!Thx for sharing and greetings from Canada! :-)

No red deer shot yet again ?...

It's not always necessary.
Lol at the other buck pausing to watch
why?
Honestly all the red stags in scotland are all shitty heads where u head over here in nz and get monsters like 24 pointers just up from my house
Cooper Nott yea that's because you farm them and put steroids in there food.
I like.

why dont people take head shots on deer i would of thought it doesn't damage the meat and gives a quicker cleaner kill
Very small target, not ethical.
shooting deer in the head is dangerous
did human beings kill off all the wolves so we can do pop control on deers :P
The plural of deer is DEER.

It takes a brave man to shoot a defensive animal disgusting.
That's probably why it's dry
Clean kill that's a LOL I think you need a bit more range time before you brag about a clean kill.
You shouldn't be shooting them anyway.
