  • Who else had one of these bikes? Probably my favorite bike from the 27.5 inch enduro era.

Great insight! I hated my SB130, washed out on the front so many times when I wasnt switched on. Now with my SB140 its really good, longer chain stays made a big difference, centered on the bike now and front has great traction.

7 years is old school, lmao. I still ride a 2006 kona coilair. It still rags, too.

I rode my 2012 SB-66 for 12 years. Long live 26"! That bike rips! The SB-6 is the son of the SB-66 and I bet it's awesome. I recently got a 2023 SB-135 (27.5") and I'm loving it but my SB-66 has a special place in my heart for bikes. Digging your videos dude! Keep 'em coming!

I loved my sb6, still have it, and eventually got the sb150.
After riding the 150 for two years and then riding the sb6, the 150 is much more stable. The sb6 is lighter and more playful but I don’t feel as stable compared to the 150.

This resonates with me a lot. Been on the latest nomad in a medium for about 7 months and at 5.10 probably should’ve got the large but I think because of the 442 CS I’m able to corner it really well and exit berms with speed because it’s so balanced with the 455 reach, also 455 is the longest reach I’ve had Never really been a fan of super long reaches think it hinders me on jumps and makes the bike less manageable but I have put a 50mm stem on the nomad which gives me unreal grip in the front and plenty of room. I think a lot of what you said about the yeti is how I’m getting on with my nomad. It definitely has given me some confidence in corners.
Thanks for your videos love your insight on things rather than just promoting the latest trend

Thanks! That nomad in the medium seems super balanced and I’m glad you’re getting along with it well. I haven’t tried any of Santa Cruz’s more modern bikes I’d want to give them a go at some point.

I have a very similar experience with mine. Great geo, best I’ve ever cornered, but cracked it 3x

My 2013 Stumpjumper 29er has a 67 HTA and and 74,5 STA. The geo is not far off from new XC geos, but the TT is about 15-20 mm shorter and the overall wheelbase about 30mm shorter than a new medium Stumpy. I don't ride bike parks, race, nor live in mtns. I ride more slow tech hiking trails and trials oriented stuff than ripping long descents. A short reach and bike are more suited to my mtb interests than a LLS bike.
Great vid and thanks for reminding people you don't have to have the newest bike to build your skills and have fun.

I had the same experience riding a friends 2016 transition smuggler. The angles were kind of conservative. But man that thing rode so confident.... I had to buy one and I will never sell it... even after trying newer bikes which way more progressive geos, most of the never felt so balanced. I am just afraid of snapping the frame someday...

Im riding a 2013 26" Devinci Dexter. Almost bought a 2023 29" Canyon Lux. After riding them back to back I decided I wasnt missing anything. 26 aint dead.

Sad when a magic bike goes away and you are forever seeking that feeling again. I had a Titus Racer X that just balled out. Dont know if I ever reached that level of trust again or if I just forgot what it felt like as time went on.

less aggressive Geo and shorter reach is IMO the way to go on technical trails that aren't gravity oriented. When you are more atop the steering, its is nice to be able to have a weighted front end on off-camber technical climbs, where by today you need to get out of saddle more to lean the bike deliberately. It sucks when your HR is peaking at 170

I've been getting interested in front/rear bike balance, especially with regards to chainstay length, reach and overall wheelbase. Just based on the Geo charts provided by yeti and some quick math, the Large SB6 had roughly 36.4% of the weight distributed to the front and 63.6% on the rear. With our current bike geos - higher stacks, slacker head angles and longer reach, practically no bikes achieve that same static weight distribution. I ride a Large RAAW Madonna v2.2 (480mm reach, 450mm chainstay, 657mm stack, 64.5 degree head angle and 1274mm wb) and if I wanted similar weight distribution on my bike the chainstay would have to be 470mm, bringing the total wheelbase up to 1294. Pretty long for an enduro rig. I wish someone would make a bike like that, but practically nobody does. I'd love to get on one. The only person who is riding bikes like that at the moment is Paul Aston, and he gets them custom made! I'd be curious what you think of his rigs.

If you look at Orange Stage, they do bikes in 450-470 CS lengths.
my stage6 in M had 468 reach and 469 chainstay. Rode quite well as weird as it looks on paper.
Can't vouch for frame durability tho.

Transition bikes have 450ish chainstays. Or high pivot bikes like Forbidden/Deviate with 460~470 at sag. Or banshee. But yes for now 470 chainstay are only available on high pivot bikes which they don't need to show on geometry chart as to not scare off masses.

Sir, review the classic 2014-2018 version of the GT Fury that won multiple world cups by the Athertons and that sweet sweet run by Kyle Strait in Rampage 2014

Such a great bike at the time! The only drawbacks I found were the swingarm was fragile - broke 2 of them in dumb little tipovers in rocks, plus one extra when the shop doing the crash-replacement failed to torque the rear rotor bolts and they backed out and darn near cut the dropout off! Also the very linear suspension started to bother me riding rocky CO trails, for some reason I started feeling like I never knew where the wheel was in the travel, but maybe that was a setup issue.

I agree very linear rear end. I just ended up running it pretty stiff and dealing with it. But the more progressive designs as of late definitely give a bit better feel

Looking at the numbers on the sb150, they are very similar to the druid v2

Maybe we could say that this bike in todays standards is more like a long travel trailbike instead of an enduro. In terms of geometry and travel
