At a former office, a co-worker had a plastic goose and crocheted all kinds of seasonal outfits for it. These included hats, bunny ears, etc. I bought her a pair of granny glasses, her name was Gertie and she became kind of an office mascot. As a joke, I brought in one of my husbands wild goose decoys to be her boyfriend; we named him Gus. He still lives there and has his own set of clothes.
That is too cute. This is how coworker office ppl work. We all have to work, so you might as well make it fun. I see some wealthy politicians that are always angry and attacking others and think they have never had to work with ppl in an office.
I enjoyed hearing what you had to say about the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs. I had the chance to go there last year and had a great time. I was hoping to go this year but, coming from California, the plane tickets just didn’t make any sense!
Love the music! Sax, clarinet… faves! Re: differing sock gauge/s. It might be the yarn base -and not you! Wayyyy back (early 2000’s) I used Regia + US#2 (or US#1.5??) & made a bunch of socks; and sport wt. The only DPs I had. Fast forward 2018-ish, got back into socks. Bought “sock” yarn. Whoa!!! Learned 463y/100g is very (!!) thin compared to 400 to 430-ish yards/100g. Bought different size needles, knit, rip, knit, rip… I like a denser gauge for socks depending, of course, on yardage to grams. Examples: 463y/100g on US#0, 10 sts/inch. 440y on US#1, 9 sts/inch. I have a lot of 463y skeins, so I a) double up = DK-ish wt socks or b), double up & make 1x1 ribbed hats or c) shawls, tube cowls… I now only use 400-440y skeins for socks, and #1 to #1.5 needles. Hope that helps? I don’t mind a tighter gauge, 80 st sock (onUS#0), they do take longer to knit, but that’s okay! Love all the Musselburgh hats! So much fun! Don’t you love it when you’re further along in a sweater than you thought?? Happy surprise! Thanks for a fun episode!
Thanks you for sharing all your tips! Yes, I think it does depend on the yarn for sure. I think I’m settling into a gauge I like and a 68 stitch sock. Thanks for watching🩷
Just found your podcast. Oh my, you are a good talker! I loved seeing all the yarn from brands I have never hears of here in Colorado! I think we all can relate to so much yarn yet so little time! I’m now inspired to dress my wooden ducks! Happy knitting!
i had the same sock challenge. I'm exploring a size one, 68 stitches at the moment. Need to get it right for advent sock knitting too! im doing freckled whimsey and new to me.... Woolens and Nosh
Thanks so much for the info about the goose sweater. Found it! Glad you had a chance to get to the Wool Gathering in Yellow Springs. I live in central IN and have attended for almost 10 years now. I also purchased yarn from Fiber Seed . Another vendor there , I always check out is Aisling Yarns, nice sock yarn!
What a great episode! I was hoping your field sweater would make an appearance. Your November plans sound sensible. I always forget to get my advent sock cuffs ready. Thanks for the reminder.
Love your Christmas sweater,Carrie❤You have lovely projects on the go.I started knitting my socks on 2.5mm needles and 64 stitches, then I went to 60 stitches on 2.5mm and now I cast on 56 stitches with 2.5mm needles.I am a uk ladies size 6 (us ladies 8 and a half?) and have quite wide feet.I pick up 16 /17 stitches on the heel flap and my socks fit well.Your husband is talented😊
For socks: Can I suggest 64 stitches, knit the cuff and first 30 Rounds on a US 1.5, then drop to a US 1 for the rest of the sock? This is how I, a tight knitter, make sure the socks fit both my leg and my heel/foot while keeping my hands relaxed. Pre-blocking this is 9-1/2 to 10 st per inch for me, but once washed it's 8-1/2, more or less. For particularly heavy fingering it depends on the pattern. If I need 64 stitches for the pattern I knit the whole sock on a US 1, but decrease the gusset to 60. Depending on the pattern repeat I either move stitches around right then, or if I need 32 stitches on the front for the pattern I move the stitches right before I start the toe decreases. If the pattern repeat allows, I just cast on 60 but follow the two needle size system mentioned above.
Great tune. Great knits and your Christmas sweater almost complete. Hope you sort out your sock quandary. I generally use 2.25mm needles and 64 sts unless the yarn is a little thicker, then I cast on 60 sts. 🇬🇧
Just found your podcast and LOVE! I totally relate to your sock issues. After trying all the methods, lots of heels and different gauges...I have landed on size 1 , 9 inch circulars and I like using flexi flips for my toes. (but find them too fiddly for the whole sock). It can take a LONG time to find socks you love but it's a fun journey. Also love the book recommendations...we were just at the History Center in Pittsburgh and read about Nellie Bly! So adding your related recommendations to my list😁
Ooh! An exhibit on Nellie Bly! Yep, I’m just impatient on my socks now that I’m experimenting. I can’t knit fast enough😹Thanks for hanging out with me🩷
I have sock gauge issues also. But I use size 0 needles and 56 stitches (for 9” circumference feet) and still can’t get less than 7 stitches per inch. I really try to keep each stitch tight too.
I have the same issue with socks! I can’t figure out which size needles feels best for my pattern. I’m either too tight or too loose with the stitches. I wish I knew how to fix it.
Yes! It’s on Ravelry as Gladys’ Sweater - I guess her goose has the same name as min - so it’s not easy to search for. The pattern is free and is on the yarn dyer’s website. dyemadyarns.com/products/gladys-sweater www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gladys-sweater
I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing with my balls of leftover over advent skeins!!!! Love this!

Oh my goodness!! I looooove that! And Gertie is such a cute name. Thanks for hanging out with me🩷

Yes to Aisling Yarns - I bought several last year (that I need to knit up😂). I’m glad you found the goose sweater pattern.
What a great episode! I was hoping your field sweater would make an appearance. Your November plans sound sensible. I always forget to get my advent sock cuffs ready. Thanks for the reminder.

I need to try the bigger needle for the cuff - that might be the answer. Thanks for the detailed tip of how you do it. Saved for reference🩷
@stolenminutes I should mention that my cuff is 15 rounds and my leg is 70, YMMV as to how many leg rounds to knit on the larger needle.
Oh that magenta yak yarn will look very good on you. Could tell when you put it close to the camera and your face. Great choice.
Thank you!!🩷
LOL "House Goose" ... I so need one of my own!!
Right?! They did have plastic ones at Jo-Ann’s at one point. Thanks for hanging out with me🩷

You”ll enjoy the 29 Bridges yarn,I have made a sweater not the same yarn as yours but the colors are great.
I’m happy to hear that! Her yarns were all beautiful! I loved her non-superwash line. Her palette is gorgeous. Thanks for hanging out with me🩷

Hi! Thanks for watching🩷
In our house every day is "Caturday ". We have 5 rescues!!!
Awwwww! Yes, every day is Caturday, it gets to be that way!! We have 3 at the moment. Thanks for hanging out with me🩷
I’m busting through a pair of socks to get my needles free for advent sock time 😅
😅good luck!
I have sock gauge issues also. But I use size 0 needles and 56 stitches (for 9” circumference feet) and still can’t get less than 7 stitches per inch. I really try to keep each stitch tight too.
We’re not alone in our sock struggles! Thanks for hanging out with me🩷
I have the same issue with socks! I can’t figure out which size needles feels best for my pattern. I’m either too tight or too loose with the stitches. I wish I knew how to fix it.
I’m just going to try going with the needles that get the gauge/fabric I like the most. Thanks for hanging out with me🩷
Love your goose sweater! I looked on Ravelry for a similar pattern, but nothing popped up. Any chance you have the designer of that sweater? Thanks!!
Yes! It’s on Ravelry as Gladys’ Sweater - I guess her goose has the same name as min - so it’s not easy to search for. The pattern is free and is on the yarn dyer’s website.

Have you read/listened to The Paris Seamstress? It flips back and forth between time periods.
I have not, but I just looked it up and it’s on my wishlist now! Love that kind of book. Thanks for the suggestion 🩷
