Great question! One issue I was having is keeping connection once I close my smoker lid. My offset chamber is dual wall 1/4" steel with insulation in between so it kills the connection to most of my wireless probes. Seeing as the S1 can sit outside the smoker and replace one of the gauges, I can now monitor my offset via WiFi from across town if I needed too. Also, the ChefsTemp S1 is $69 bucks so it's a lot cheaper than picking up most probes if you are just looking into monitoring ambient temps.
I use the Meater+ in both of my smokers and it works great . One is the Chargriller Akorn which is double wall steel and my Pitboss vertical. No problems using it with either . I never check my thermometers in them anymore. I also had the Digi-Q which is a blower type and was a waste of $300. Spent $42 on a Tip Top Temp control for my Akorn and it works flawlessly... Not trying to dump on this product but it seems to be a redundant device with other ones doing a better job . I enjoy product reviews but this doesn't seem to be worth it in my opinion... For what it's worth 😊
@@GrillSergeant Doesn't the ChefsTemp ProTemp Plus probe system that you've previously covered have this capability? I guess the S1 would be better if you're not probing your meat directly?
@@drewmiller7030 The ambient temp ranges on the meat probes were 122°F -662°F. The new S1 does 50°F - 1000°F - that is extremely helpful when collecting data from a smoker or grill I'm testing out.
Adding all of these things, might as well get a pellet grill. I monitor temps at grate level by adding a thermometer on a clip. Also meater and other wireless probes will give you ambient temp.
I like the idea of this, I am not sold on ChefsTemp. I have the ChefsTemp ProTemp Plus and it drops connection all the time. I also cannot trust the readings. it will swing 15+- from my InkBird which works great. Maybe I have a bad unit, but so far, not a company I could endorse.
Liked and subscribed. Interesting, but I'm more interested in the 'Spit Fire' grill you are using for demonstration purposes. Can't find link for it in Google. Can you send a link to it, Grill Sgt? Anybody else have a link to it? thanks, rocket
Seems like a ton of work and a ton of money. What would have helped is if there was a comparison. Ribs cooked without those devices, ribs cooked with them to compare the accuracy of the device and/or its effectiveness. Otherwise, that's a lot of money for 3D printed things.
Offset ribs are going to be amazing either way. Why I love the S1 is because it is an extremely affordable way to monitor temps and help with the bbq process. For me it's convenience. If you spend 12-16 hours managing an offset fire you will see that the S1 is worth it's weight in gold.
A ton of money? It's $69 for a smart gauge. Some analog gauges cost that much and more! But.. as he shows.. it's more than just a gauge... can hook wireless probes to it.. a breezos fan controller to it. This is a game changer!
If I’m refinishing an old quarter-inch offset, should I use any paint or just season it somehow? Any recommended products?
Can’t you get those same features on a MEATER probe (or similar) but you also get the temp of the meat?

Honest question honest answer please are you sponsored by or in an affiliation with cheftemp?
Great review, you perfectly demoed the unit and capabilities. I love that you can buy extra mounts and move the main unit from grill to grill

Maybe I'm just a nerd for thinking it's cool to check my offset pit temp from my iWatch. lol To each there own.
Sounds like this IS NOT for Pit Boss Pro Series Pellet Grills? The display on my PB 600 no longer displays all of the numbers continuously.
I want an adapter for a drum smoker. I have ordered the system and thanks for the review.
This is amazing!! I’ve been doing the same thing with ThermoWorks for years.
Like the chef temp pro temp this would make a great addition !
Just get the Meater, best probe ive used
Awesome sauce bro that thing makes
It easy … great review
Awesome review, Andrew 👏. Second time seeing this review. Well done, brother. Cheers 🍻

That's why I like how you can calibrate the S1. I can take something like a wired temp probe that I trust and tune the S1 to that.
Looks fantastic!

Hey Rocket thanks for watching! It's www.spitfiregrills.com/
@@GrillSergeant Thanks Grill Sgt. Followed the link. That's one very interesting charcoal rig. I like the versatility it offers.
@@rocket4602 It really is. I used it to win a SCA Steak Competition against world champions! th-cam.com/video/rDIBtC0BNDc/w-d-xo.html
You didn’t say how much the probes cost.
I tried ordering one but they don’t have one for my Kamado Joe grill.
It’s a universal fit, there is a TH-cam video up with one on a Kamado Joe
Quit while your ahead my friend. Not worth trying to promote this useless product
I use the S1 every time I run my offset. I love the unit. To each their own. Merry Christmas!

@@kevincrane1310 Lol...I was going to say...I would expect this product to cost more! lol
@@GrillSergeant I love it! Had the privilege of helping with beta testing. It works great on my Bronco drum!!!!
Not as good as the Fireboard
You are also not paying $400. 😆 The S1 + Breezo works fine for me but you do you.
MEATER PROBE MORE CONVENIENT
SORRY THIS SOUNDS LIKE TOO MUCH HASSLE 😢
