it's the American way of saluting, in the UK and most of Europe the palm is forward facing except for the royal navy

The Naval salute of Palm down came from the days of sail. Since sailors hands were often dirty it was considered unseemly to show dirty hands to officers, so the palm was turned down. It was the late 19th early 20th century when the US Army switched from Palm forward to Palm down, the same salute as the US Navy and Marine Corps which had always been using.

Going from HBCU Drum major videos to this one is so disappointing

Beat time and armswing too jerky and out of phase with the feet...ie ahead of the feet beat wise. Armswing needs to come back past the leg and not jerkily stop at the leg on the down swing. There are no whistles in Scottish drum majoring. Also British salutes are supposed to be palm up. Do one of those instead of an American DCI drumcorps hand salute. Flourishes of course are fantastic.
