Laurie has a great gift for being punched he could play it beautifully. It may not translate to Americans but watch Blackadder season 4
Hugh Laurie is just... a genius. The born entertainer, talking like a waterfall, making everything up from scratch and throwing jokes - and really witty and intelligent ones at that - in about every 5 words. It's simply a pleasure to listen to him.
+MC MC I think what I like most about the writing of House MD is that while it shows that House could get results with his methods, at the same time it does not try to make him 'heroic' or justify his behaviour and personality. Hugh Laurie's brilliant acting and charisma helped a lot too.

While Cameron had the whole "I just want to fix" him phase, I'm fairly sure the audience felt that way too once in a while. But then you also got to the point where it was like "yes, wilson is right, he just likes to be miserable, because he doesn't like change and not being miserable would be change for him, so he sabotages every opportunity he has to be happy." He's such an interesting character and Hugh Laurie being the meticulous actor he is really always played the subtleties of the character perfectly. Plus if you're a medical school student, as I am, the cases are hilariously great review for classes and boards and sometimes equally hilariously wrong.
Medical student here too! Most important thing I've learnt from House has to be his logical deductions and observations in his diagnosis... not his methods obviously but the rational approach! Absolutely brilliant stuff
MC MC true. though the real first one if I'm not mistaken is Tony Soprano. house started a trend and the funny thing the ones who followed his food steps became more dangerous and much darker: Dexter, Walter White and Don Draper. it's crazy when you see Hugh's competition at the Emmys and other award shows his competition in the early seasons were much nicer guys like Jack Bauer, McDreamy and Michael Scofield and when Hugh got nominated in his latter seasons his competition became much more aggressive getting guys like:Walter White and Dexter. but still I prefer Hugh as an actor against all of them and the same goes for the House character.
He speaks in full paragraphs rather than short, incomplete phrases. I wish that many of the people who are so famous in our culture of celebrity were as worthy of their renown as he is. I worry sometimes that children now grow up without any distinction between achievement and empty fame. Real accomplishments, modesty and dignity have gone out of fashion. Yet Hugh Laurie is a reminder of how great they can be.
I watch alot tv show ,and every tv show has something best. Friends for their chemistry,breaking bad for editing, castle for castleness and house of card for the brilliance in screen play. But this one,i just love the characterization of house , he suffers pain to be a best doctor, he is being an ass to get best from his team. he is isolated to be rational. Its one of the best characterization ever according to me.

If anybody on here has not seen Hugh Laurie in Blackadder then do yourself a favor and watch it, especially as The Prince in Series 3 and as George in Blackadder Goes Forth. It is the most amazing comedy like only the Brits can make.
Also the tv show "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" which is where it all started for me watching Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie making me laugh so much, I actually bought a book of the script and used to play out the parts with a friend of mine back in my school days. Long long time fan of both those guys.

When I went to school for my second job because I could not work as a chef anymore due to decreasing bone density, so I learned to be a clerc, yes, in germany, it's two, sometimes three years of learning both in an office and in a school with tests at the end, House was really huge in germany (late 2000s). I didn't have a TV and was not very interested at the time. I sometimes needed to use a cane and was always a bit grumpy because I was in constant pain and was not happy about this new job. My classmates called me House all the time. I did not think much of it. Last year I bought the DVD box and now I think it was quite the compliment!
Laurie did well on this interview he was careful not to say something hurtful for Wilson's character and the idea of his own character being a side character rather than the main.I could see some tension building since others around him weren't so responsive and where just listening

He was seen as a beloved comedic treasure here in the UK until he did House. most Brits still think of him in "Blackadder" which is a long running, cult comedy show, or with his comedy partner Stephen Fry in "Fry and Lawrie" To see him do a serious role is....strange...but brilliant!!!!

Im so heart broken on season 8. After two people who were my favourites SPOILER i couldnt bring myself to like the show like before. And im so mad at Cuddy. Lisa says it was resolved but no it left an open door and a wound in me. How cant she … even after… Just no. Knowing cuddy she would 100% even for once. Yes even after the car.

You know, the first time I had the revalation that Laurie is an Englishman was after becoming addicted to House and after re-watching my old DVD of Stuart Little. In the blooper reel, Laurie says "Stop the camera, take the film out, and throw it away!" in very Oxfordian English! I had to hold my skull tightly to keep it from exploding!
@giselle21able Brittish accents are a lot more formal than the Australian accent.....We Australians are pretty lazy when we speak so we shorten our words quite a bit.....we're not really Brittish, but most of our like...customs and roots etc. come from England, which probably makes us sound Brittish....but they're both unique....And if memory serves...Jesse Spencer spent some time in England...so he might have picked up a little of the accent while he was there :)

The character that Shore came up with does exist. I mean there may be others but I"m lucky enough to have a friend who is a carbon copy of him. And.. yes, he is indeed a doctor... a psychiatrist of all things lol. The same issues: the obnoxious or acidic sense of humour, the constant derogatory ironic comments, the same intelligence, the self-centered egomaniacal whirlpool of attention and destruction at the same time, the "soft at heart" nature... even many of the expressions. House DOES exist indeed.

You get a sense of the intelligence behind it,and the...that was just 3pages..am i right,you get a sense very quickly
it was a very bold thing to do. one of the things that i liked about it, was that they didn't try to be liked, he didn't try to be liked and the show didn't try to be liked and i think that's pretty likeable. Hope i helped. :) It's not my native language, and iI couldn't get it all. But the most at least are written;) Enjoy!

The character that Shore came up with does exist. I mean there may be others but I"m lucky enough to have a friend who is a carbon copy of him. And.. yes, he is indeed a doctor... a psychiatrist of all things lol. The same issues: the obnoxious or acidic sense of humour, the constant derogatory ironic comments, the same intelligence, the self-centered egomaniacal whirlpool of attention and destruction at the same time, the "soft at heart" nature... even many of the expressions. House DOES exist indeed.

work into that character.But the character of house i was very very in treat by...bla..most of actors get a sense of whether this is something it is going to suit them.Almost instictively...almost in a couple of pages.Sometimes is a couple of lines you just think "oh,not only i like the character, not only i'm entreat by the character but i'm entreat by the person who wrote it". You get a sense of the intelligence behind it,and the...that was just 3pages..am i right,you get a sense very quickly
His accent blew my mind after the first time I heard it aswell.lol
it was a very bold thing to do. one of the things that i liked about it, was that they didn't try to be liked, he didn't try to be liked and the show didn't try to be liked and i think that's pretty likeable.
