- This video look at the common problem on the Nissan Navara D40 pickup with the cracked / rusted chassis leg and looks at the first step to fixing - removing the rear tub / bed. Facebook page - / 505526562959686
Attempting this today, one of my cross members is completely snapped, not the part you have in this video, but the cross member behind the bulkhead… so today, by myself, I’m removing the rear tub, and welding it, and putting is all back together… in one day… also never touched a welder in my life 😂

I'm 58 and we used Gurt to mean big on the I.O W. Live just outside of Portsmouth now(sadly). Just looked it up, and yes originated in Somerset. My long distend relatives come for there a couple of hundred years ago, so make sense. Look foreword to a vid on all the welding, if you do one.
Gurt is a West Country term though I've not heard it for a bit - see also, Hasanum, Wasanum and Couldanum
4 x 4 now are pretty poor,our manager has a ford ranger 2016,
everything's cheap and nasty,roll bar is eye candy and made of tinfoil etc,bodywork looks so flimsy,
certainley not built to last.
It's not the outside that's just the issue it's the rust on the inside. It eats its way out so no matter how many coats of paint you coat the outter with it's still gonna rust big time. only real solution is to cut strips from the bottom of the chassis hit the walls with a hammer to break up the crust and clean out the rust. Once you've rewelded the chassis all up you should waxoyl the inside of the chassis all the way from front to back soaking every nook and cranny..These chassis are so weak and prone to rust that Nissan is doing a recall. If your chassis is ripping at the rear spring holders then you won't get your vehicle back as it's deemed unroad worthy. As far as I've been told Nissan is only paying or compensating the owner's what the car's book price is.. check it out.. TH-cam has countless videos showing these vehicles buckled where the tub meets the back of the cab due to the chassis splitting in two..Good luck..👍😁

I contacted Nissan and they sent the RAC out to inspect it - they say the truck is going to be written off !

Wonder why this was not spotted by MOT checks, it would have been a gradual rust issue
Hi - think the issue was they rusted from inside out !
MOT testers only report corrosion within 'prescribed areas' (within so many inches of a suspension mounting point) or corrosion that causes sharp edges on the outside bodywork.
You do realise that Nissan are buying back all navara D40 and pathfinders with cracked and snapped chassis

Mark T yes, they won’t offer a penny more or offer to repair, they sent a letter to say I declined (which doesn’t give me the chance to sign) and they said they use my decline over the phone as proof I said no and that they take no further responsibility even after I said I use it with my kids in it.
