Gabriel Byrne is brilliant. Still beautiful, so thoughtful and smart, and actually funny too! He is 72 now but in great shape and I hope that he makes many many more films.
Now I do like Gabriel Byrne, great person and actor. But I find that he is very serious person. Different from other actors, maybe he dose'nt like doing interviews.
@@johndoyle2429 That is true, he has always been very shy and uncomfortable with his own success as an actor, specially during his Hollywood time in the 80s and 90s. That is why he has stopped being a mainstream silver screen celebrity and more of a cult classic hero as time goes by. He states so, although not directly, in his latest book, Walking with Ghosts, which I highly recommend, as you will discover completely new persona of him, as highly capable writer. These days you can see him quite engaged in excellent stream channels’ shows, such as MANIAC, ZERO ZERO ZERO, and WAR OF THE WORLDS, which indicates he has been smart in capitalizing on that rapidly growing market, where mature actors have more chances to be seen and stay relevant than on the big screen.
The movie clip they discuss is from "Hello Again," a deeply idiotic comedy about a woman who returns from the dead. She "cheats death" just as the characters in LTBs "cheat" on their mates. This doesn't seem incidental. Gabriel Byrne was 37 in the film, but Disney/Touchstone's bright cheery 1980's comedy genre cinematography makes everyone look weirdly "ripe" as if teenagers, so Byrne's "look" in that clip also make it a fitting image for the sons to watch and be shocked by. It is strange to process that he thought he looked "better" in that movie than he is today. He looks great now, but of course he was almost frighteningly beautiful as a 30-40 year old.
He was 67 years old here and had been sober for 24 years. He looks great. In another Lincoln Center interview he talks about how vicious people can be about actors aging: th-cam.com/video/zh2KXxllJ5M/w-d-xo.html 34:40
This is really an absurd comment on every level. Byrne Hasn't drank since the mid-1980's, he looks great, and I agree with the other comment that he has address the "looks" issue vis-a-vis aging. First, he looks good but also he has smart things to say about the denial of actors' human reality of getting older.

Yes, Byrne was really the best in this film: see Mark Kermode's review. It is lovely and endlessly re-watchable.
Drink took a toll on him.He is letting himself go.
