This Bali trip has been epic so far! Annnd it's about to get more epic as we explore Gili Trawangan to start, followed by another Gili Island in the next few vlogs - the beach, the vibe, the locals, the food, it's all amazing!
The Gili Islands are officially part of Lombok, not Bali, though it's an easy mistake to make given how accessible the islands are. We've mentioned before the beaches in Bali aren't all that amazing, but as you'll see from just this one day in Gili T - this is where the magic happens! Lombok is home to some seriously stunning sand, water and good times.
In this vlog we're chatting over the dilemma of how to get around on the island, showing our accommodation, swimming with turtles on the beach and checking out the night markets. There's a lot of other things to do in Gili T, but to be honest, those are kind of the main things right off the bat in one day. Add in some diving and a boozy boat cruise and you've pretty much nailed Gili Trawangan!

Stacey, I absolutely love you. You've no idea how profoundly touched I am by your reaction to the horses. I too am heartbroken about it. Here is what I suggest everyone does. IF YOU MUST TAKE THE CARRIAGE, HIRE 2 SEPARATE ONES. This will lessen the horse's load because you are spreading it between two carriages. Please, everyone. A cidomo ride costs only $7.00.
I was in Gili T last month, and I SO WISH that thought had crossed my mind. I would have volunteered to pay for people's rides so they not all cram up in the same cart and add to a horse's already difficult life on the island.
Be fair, and be brave, everyone.
They don’t carry the weight, they pulling it. That’s why the locals always make people sit at the back.

Gotta love a quiet, uncrowded beach. Those sea turtles were incredible, not to mention the fact that you got to see them for free with no bargaining required!
It's sad about the horses, but I'm at least glad to hear that some things are being done to make life a little better for them🐴
No bargaining is a real bonus huh! Super cool of the local guy to just come and let us know as well

Loving your videos as I am going to Bali this year. I was wondering - how are yous not getting ‘Bali belly’ from the ice drinks / slush cocktails etc?
The cocktails and drinks tend to use purchased ice (most likely from reverse osmosis water) so there's no real issue there. Though, it's highly likely you'll get some kind of tummy issue here and there, just expect it and roll with it (plus take some meds with you)

You guys are great, keep on with the awesome vlogs. Question; can one take a private boat or helicopter to the Gilis, and can one avoid the queues in this way?
Thanks! You can actually fly domestically to Lombok and take a much shorter boat ride over, that's probably the best case to get a private boat! We havent seen any heli pads but money talks, you could probably sort it

Wow the Gili Islands continue to amaze me! Unfortunate about the horses. I'm assuming your accommodation was a bit too far to go on a bicycle? Just asking because I saw many on this vlog that were parked. Or perhaps those were reserved only for guests of a resort. Great seeing all the friendly people. And a sea turtle in such shallow water. Wow!
Yeah it was too far for heavy luggage sadly, though it's been interesting the feedback we've had since and people saying these horses thrive in this environment and get bored otherwise - hard to know! Either way, Gili T was awesome - but as you've seen Gili Air was the real winner!

Great video! Thks so much for sharing 🙏 I booked a villa on gili t, but we don’t party + have 3 kids. Do u think we’ll regret going? We are going for a month so we got a good deal for booking 4 wks. I figure that gili T will be nice for more eateries/options for a long stay, as long as we can escape the partying + find some quiet beaches during the day 😅
Yes, definitely - sounds like you've got the right idea. If you have a nice villa to escape to, and you don't mind travelling around a bit more to find a quieter beach, you're all set. Don't stay out late and you won't see the loud annoying drunks!

I was all set to visit the gilis until I researched further and it seems like Bali, the gilis are broken, corrupt, dodgy, hustlers and muck and rubbish everywhere...the horse treatment was the nail in the coffin for me.
Don’t look on internet and go check by yourself. The gilis has changed a lot the past few years and keep changing. They try their best to clean, fix or build new buildings. You still have some place untouched since the 2018 earthquake. Then Covid has been really tough for the locals. They lost a lot of money and they are not able to fix anything. It’s a beautiful island. Just don’t come during the high season coz it’s really crowded.
About the horses. Yeah they work a lot but the locals take care of them. It’s how they make money. Every night they wash them, brush them and they eat well. And there is an association managed by a foreigner with a vet that keep an eye on them. So far, there is a project to replace them with electric vehicles.

Maybe instead of using them find accommodation that you’re willing to walk to. I’ve been here numerous times and will always walk to my accommodation. I’d prefer to struggle rather then sit there with my eyes closed hating my decision to use them.
I’ve been to Gilli T twice. Yes it’s not fair on the horses pulling ungrateful westerners but what’s the alternative? Mopeds wizzing around wouldn’t be safe on a small island. Prob best to just walk even if you have your backpack.

cuzzy rory is on in the comments section too night stacey an daneger where are yo guys now etc back home in nz new zealand or whats the go. idk theres just been a big asfk earthquake 5,8 in nz new zealand on wednesday 15th off february 2023 too night idk massages cuzzy customs aka cuzzy rory in the comments section back too night aye brother idk been out on my dirt bikes or dirt bike with few mates too night for night ride on the backroads going out too a motocross track i built out in a lifestyle block farm land few kws away from my place etc. and then the earthquake 5,8 hit the ground rolling and shit idk was soo fucking shit myslfe
