  • www.hirekogolf.com - Hireko Golf's Technical Director Jeff Summitt introduces the new Graphite Shaft Extenders and how to properly install them into graphite shafts. No more second guessing, accurately determines the exact sized extender you need. Color coded to 11 sizes. Our Extenders for Graphite / Steel Golf Shafts fit virtually all graphite shaft as well as the most popular steel shaft sizes. High-quality nylon blended plastic is designed to extend one club (maximum 2" for swing clubs). We recommend high strength shafting epoxy to secure extension into butt end of the shaft and then cut to length once epoxy is cured. Extenders can be sanded down (generally no more than 0.020") to fit smaller openings. Will work graphite shafts as well as the 3 largest models will fit 0.560", 0.580" and 0.600" steel shafts respectively. The Graphite Golf Shaft Measuring Gauge helps simplify and determine the correct shaft extension for the job. It can help minimize labor and maximize fit in lieu of a caliper. Color coded to 11 sizes. Fit virtually all graphite shaft as well as the most popular steel shaft sizes. To use, simply insert the gauge into the butt end of the shaft you wish to extend without forcing it in. When the gauge stops you identify the color just above the butt of the shaft and order or choose the correct size shaft extender to do the job correctly.

I would add 1 small layer of tape at the seam before inserting the grip. Just so water does not soak in and for greater stability IMO

Hi. Do you really need the entire 3" of the part that goes I to the shaft? It seems like one inch of that would hold once the grip is on, and it would help to not change the swingweight as much. Your thoughts?

Yes, you need that full length inserted (which is 2"). The reason is, if you only put 1" there is a lot of stress in which the extender could or would likely break. Your hands are full of veins and tendons that you do not one of these to break. That is also why we recommend no more than 2" extension extending beyond the shaft.

If it fits of course, can you use a metal extension in graphite shaft and vice versa?

Please don't use a steel extender in a graphite shaft as there is a high likelihood that the shaft will break. Years ago we used to sell aluminum extenders for graphite shaft, but as far as I am aware, they no longer exist and these nylon extenders are far better.

How do you remove shaft extension after it’s dry? It made my swing weight heavier

heat it and pull it out

Suppose the extender does not fit snugly. Is it okay to install a layer of masking tape around the portion of the extender that fits inside the shaft to make a tighter fit?

Yes, that is okay. Hope, this is not too late

Will adding an inch to butt end increase or decrease swing weight?

Any time you add length to a club, it will increase swing weight. The first 1/2" will be @ 1.5 swing weight points. Ever 1/2" afterwards will be 3 points.

    Hacksaw?

You can use a hacksaw to cut these extenders. If the teeth are serrated, it might be best to apply tape where you want to cut the shaft. Plus the tape will make it easier to see where you mark the length.

I think I might have cut the extender before sticking it in - that way there is no risk to the original shaft - and its easier to do on a short length rather than the whole club.
