hi........... the brass casing is just for fitting focusing module. Right??? Also why we can't use the ordinary tin pin lens..provided with NICHIA NUBM08?
brass casing is not just for focusing lens but also for the diode so that the brass will act as a heat heat sink for the diode. And for tin case lens that comes along with the laser here the problem is you can't use those lens assembly in this module and one more thing you'll get a fixed focus and main thing is you need to build a seperate big size heat sink for that lens with laser diode to properly dissipate the heat.
@@TECHResearchDevelopment about the heat separate sink...i actually want to run the laser for not more than 40-50sec. with an interval of maybe 2-3min..will a smaller heat sink like this will work?(diode is same as yours) ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1vQjrKVXXXXbRXVXXq6xXFXXXH/202467672/HTB1vQjrKVXXXXbRXVXXq6xXFXXXH.jpg
I think you can't use this silver heatsink as it's diameter is for TO-18 i.e. 5.6mm laser diode whereas nubm08 is 9mm due to which the brass heat sink size increases and hence the brass will not fit with this silver heatsink so if you want to reduce the cost of heat sink other than the brass one I would recommend you to go for stock cpu heatsink by drilling hole according to brass one
@@TECHResearchDevelopment oh..ok got it.... actually, i am more concerned about heat dissipation...like *let say i have a heat sink of a certain dia, which fits your brass casing perfectly.... but, the thickness of that heat sink is same as that of the one shown in the above link... in that case can i use your Blue LD, for 50sec with an interval of around 2-3mins maybe, without blowing up the diode due to thermal failure?
HI... Can u tell me the dimensions of your: *copper module(or copper housing)* And of diode after taking the original lens out. Actually, I was trying to make a custom Copper housing hence need to know the dia of holes
I don't remember the outer diameter of copper housing but yes my diode(NUBM08) is 9mm for diode you can get the details from its datasheet. I would recommend to buy the copper housing instead of making, for extended heatsink you can drill on stock cpu heatsink.
i removed the gball lens from nubm08...and attached the g8 lens..... The laser seems to converge at around 8cm......but like after 8 cm it diverges like hell..making a rectangle of around 2x1 foot. any idea why?
@@TECHResearchDevelopment Like i want...a not-so-thin laser beam which cause burns....my ultimate purpose in not engraving....i just want it to make handheld, which burns a few wood or balloons at distance. I managed to get a small focal point with it....Now im confused that if i should use it "with gball lens + g8 lens" or "w/o gball lens(decanned) + g8 lens"
@@TECHResearchDevelopment Also if you know the Max operating temp. of a single NUBM08 pls let me know...as all the specs out there shows the Max Op. temp. to be 0-70deg. but for the entire laser diode block.
Well am not sure, because some laser vendor specify the lasers as 40w but it's actual optical power is max 7-9w (sometimes even less) and in some cases it's dual laser diode package in one single module and that too it's optical power will mostly be arround 15w. But you buy nubm44 as its power rating (optical power) is more than nubm08.
By any chance, if you know the Max operating temp. of a single NUBM08 pls let me know...as all the specs out there show the Max Op. temp. to be 0-70deg. but for the entire laser diode block.
@@TECHResearchDevelopment 1min -35 degree-1amps That was the best I achieved. I think its my heat sink cause I dont have a fan or anything on it. It's just an cylindrical aluminum piece. Result: 1min-43 deg- 3amps 2min-47 deg-3amps etc. (Though I'll just run the new diode for less than 1min ) I read on #laserpointerform you should run diode on 10deg less than the max operating temp for longer life. And for NUMB08 max op. temp is 65deg, where I'm just running it up till 43 to 45 deg. so ACC. to laserpointerform i think I'm way below the safe limit already. @@armancodeq3642 i didn't get you, because 1st you said for 1min temp was 35deg at 1amp but later in result section you mentioned 45deg for 1min usage at 3amps. Although its mentioned in laser_pointer_form max temp is 65deg or so... I would still recommend you to not exceed temp more than 35deg, try to control the laser temp by considering 35deg as max and also don't go for peak current of 3amp go for 2-2.5amp as it will increase life span of LD. So overall consider temp
@@TECHResearchDevelopment ya when i ran LD on 1A -- For 1min -- LD temp from 25deg (room temp.) reaches upto 35deg. 3A -- For 1min -- LD temp from 25deg (room temp.) reaches upto 43deg. Is that true??* ( I am still researching about the maintenance temp. of LD, which you told to keep below 40deg, will tell you if I found something new.) Thnkx :]
Yes it will, dust will affect the life and performance of the laser when you remove the stock lens and keep the LD aside for longtime. In my case once I removed the stock lens I immediately placed the LD in to the casing and attached the adjustable lens to it, so its negligible and not degrade the laser performance that much. Yes you can use at that duration, also add 12v fan it's not necessary for this duration of usage (50sec on and 2-3min off) but still for more safety.

please..... dont play to make "efects" with video or music, is waste of time. the sound of the fan, are better
hey i am a laser hobbyiest ...and i really cant find the diode or they are very expensive ,where did you got the diode from?
I had order it specifically for my machine msg me on fb through description
You can order nichia NUBM08 on ebay. They run around $30 a diode.
There are stocks present in the USA still.
Sir I am also interested in buying laser module but want contact info please share us
