    JBL 305p has a kind of "hiss" at highs, tannoy sound darker but more solid and consistent. At tannoys sounds doesn't divide into mids and higsh but stay unitary and integrated.

      This may sound a bit unprofessional, but maybe, it is worth mentioning: A lot of the comments seem to favor the JBLs for more detail-riddled treble. But, one thing is that the Tannoy Gold 5 has a quieter amp (no hiss), with 200 Watts. So, this means you could easily EQ the Tannoy Gold 5s - with cuts in the bass, but still have plenty of power to make up for the volume difference, effectively establishing more dominant treble.

    Tannoy sound like a better listening speaker with highs just slightly set back from neutral. and JBL has more forward highs in comparison but match the rest of the speakers voicing, better for mixing but these two are super close to my ears. $500 for Tannoy, I paid $229 for a pair of these JBL on sale.

    Tannoys seem more faithful to the source track. The JBLs have more detail and air but I have to wonder if that would turn into ear fatigue after a while.

      Listening to lsr 305 gen 1 for almost 5 years, no probs with fatigue (with focusrite dac), they just "space" more because of the waveguide, but 305's lack bass...;( i use mine with the jbl studio sub:D...

  • @jasperyoung2466
    @jasperyoung2466 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    JBL 305P MKII - Bright and open, bass has a little more impact and goes deeper. Treble needs more control as it can sound harsh at times.
    Tannoy Gold 5 - Smoother and more neutral. Bass is lighter than the JBL, midrange is cleaner, with a hint of warmth. Treble is well-controlled, slightly mellow and non-fatiguing.
    Personally, I prefer the Tannoys because it sounds more neutral, refined, and is less fatiguing to listen to.

    Compared to the originals Tannoys are lacking the top end, but the JBL's are just a bit too bright. Could that difference be adjusted? Are there any build-in treble level controls?

    • @Fonkemman
      @Fonkemman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there is, on the Tannoys.
      For me, the JBLs sounds like there is a bit of hi shelf boost. While the Tannoys may lack very little top end, they definitely still sound very much closer to the original. The JBLs sounds very different from the get go, so obvious on the hi hat sounds especially right?

    I prefer the Jbl's. The Tannoy's lack treble extension vs the 305's, which make them sound too "dark", and therefore show less clarity than the Jbl's.
    On the Jbl's, if necessary, you can lower the level of high frequencies to make the sound a little "softer".
    And last but not least, they are cheaper (118 euros) a piece vs (159 euros) for the Tannoy's.

    • @TheDarius1968
      @TheDarius1968 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@polygraphliedetector Yes, I was thinking, during this demo, the Tannoy Gold 5 - by virtue of its frequency response graph - sounds a little dark, in the highs. However, as you say, they have a lot of power, and this means, if you turn down - by a few db - the bass and the mid range, then, you just make up for it by turning the volume up on the speaker, after the adjustment, not worrying about distortion/clipping, because you have the watts that you need! :-)
