Thanks so much, your video explained what the manual couldn't. Loved your song, your voice & guitar and harmonica. Lots of love, Gena

I picked one of these up at an auction yesterday but didn't actually know what it was.
This video helped me understand it.
I thought it was just a zig zag.
I've ordered a foot pedal for it because mine was missing.
I look forward to getting it going.

Just need to say that i truly love this video. My grandma used to help me sew in pants and other clothes. But she is not good with technology and since she is old we can not se her because of corona. Love this video and thank you for explaining it so well!

Got this one 2nd hand "refurbished" for my mum a couple years back. She used to have this very model back in the day and i think she`s delighted she now has a sewing machine again.

Yes, it is a wonderful sewing machine. Thanks for watching.

Say, are there any clever upgrade parts/hacks for this particular machine that my mum might find useful? She doesn`t know much about these things, but maybe yoy have something to add to my inquiry. Thanks :)

My machine had a cracked cam chamber inside where the cams click in. I just superglued the broken plastic together and voila it worked! You can set stitch width to lower or higher levels than the colours indicate on the dials to give more stitch variations. Make sure to look out for spare bobbin holders - they are rare! That's all I know of, apart from getting hold of the manuals! Best wishes.

Thanks mate :) My mum told me she would like another one of those metal bobbins. I`ve seen them online but i`m a bit apprehensive about buying them because i don`t know the exact model & make. She also mentioned a few more plastic spools that would fit inside the bobbin would be nice. She told me she had an issue with the two speed gear a while back. Wouldn`t kick into the high gear. I tried looking at it but ended up just spraying the area with some CRC, lol. Not sure what you mean by cam. The owners manual was included when i bought the machine.

@@giantdormouse I have the original Manual book for this Husqvarna Viking 2000 machine, it is very useful and describes how to use all of the different features. I bought my machine for $25 at the dump store and it was completely frozen but I got it unstuck and running again with some liquid wrench and a hair dryer. It came with all of the cams, a little metal sewing platform, the carrier box, some bobbins and two original booklets, one is the manual and the other is suggestions for sewing projects from Husqvarna, it even came with a working light bulb for the light. I like this machine very much it is very heavy and sturdy, I cant believe someone was going to throw it away!

Hi! I have been using my mother-in-law’s Viking 6460, unfortunately, the manual was for a 5540, so there were a lot of missing features. I’d still be trying to find all the info I got from your video in 7 different places online were it not for you! Thanks so much!

This is such a useful video, many thanks!!! 💕👍🙏💖
I bought one yesterday, a Viking Husky #6030. No manual, no accessories. Found some cams second hand as well. Now to figure it out.
How to clean the old resin residue from dried up lube or gummed up oil inside? Alcohol? Xylene? Acetone? WD40? Please share ... anyone?
The bags were delightful and creative! Thanks for the great cams demo.
One question: I have a #6030 Viking. There are only 4 cams shown on top panel A-B-C-D. However, there are cams E-F-G-H-I. Will these work on this machine as well?
The guitar and harmonica combi was lovely. A man of many talents! 😎

Me too, I'd like to know how to do a straight stitch too. Do you turn all the front dials to 0 and remove the pattern cams?

    • @giantdormouse
      @giantdormouse  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@AskGesus Turn the handwheel towards you until the needle is in the highest position. Then, set the stitch selector (upper left-hand dial) at the straight stitching symbol (zigzag going to small lines/dots). The stitch length dial (upper right-hand dial) is graduated from 0 - 6 and should be set at the required length (depending on how long you want the stitch). The stitch width dial (lower dial) should be set at 0 for straight stitch. Hope this helps. (Sorry, I thought I'd already posted this reply). Best wishes.

Hello. Thanks for the video, it was nice to see this machine in action! I just got a viking 6020 machine for free that hasn't been used in 20+ years. I've never had a husquarna before and didn't know what cams were (it's missing all of them) and it needs some work. You seem so familiar and comfortable with it so I was wondering if you would know this- will it still sew a simple straight stitch without any cams? Should the reverse button have a springy feel to it? mine doesn't pop, and feels like it's missing a spring maybe? and should all width/length/selection knobs come off? 2 of 3 are stuck and perhaps need cleaning, one came off easily and had some grime under it. Thank you!

My viking machine was seized up and I used an old tried and tested method I found on youtube which was to use a hairdryer to heat up the resinous mass which the old lubricant had turned into inside the machine. Obviously I unplugged the machine first and opened it up from the outside screws. Always useful to take photos or film where the screws were! Once the machine could be turned over by hand it moved more freely and I was able to completely make it work with fabric. I would probably download the pdf manual for your 6020 machine or a 4000 series machine which are free online. Cams are pretty essential so look out for them and if your machine won't work look out for any second hand ones on ebay etc. Your machine should be able to do straight stitches without cams but pattern stitches need them! The reverse button should spring and then lock in place - and then you press it in again and it comes out. Sounds like your machine may be seized up and you should try the hairdryer method. My selection knobs don't come off. They seem to be on a spring and click when you turn them. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

@@giantdormouse than you for taking time to answer! Yes, obviously everything is unplugged and I actually disconnected and removed the motor completely. I did use the hair dryer and wd40 to unglue the gunk (it's the only thing i had, sorry i know some do not recommend using it at all). And I'm using egg cartons/ziplock system :) and notes and photos to make sure i keep track of where screws and parts are coming from. So mechanically most things are moving and turning, but the machine is stuck in reverse (it does move feeding dogs forward when i turn the wheel the opposite way). I figured out how to remove plastic knobs- you have to pluck the shiny metal circle out of the knob with a needle and it exposes screws in top left and bottom right/width knobs, and pull out the white plastic button to expose screw on Length (top right) knob. But the button on length (top right) does not spring back on my machine and that seems to be locking the reverse/forward switch. There's a part that's attached to that button that seems to be moving freely and doesn't seem to be springing/pulling/pushing any other part. I went thru the manual that there's no clear picture of what it should be attached to. I'm not experienced enough to take the whole thing apart - I don't have any experience in mechanics and there are way too many moving parts and springs. I was so hoping to get this working :(

I do hope you get it going. I'm not a mechanic either - so have only managed to get things going through perseverance and trial and error. I wish you all the best. It is a lovely machine to work once you get it going! All the best.

@@giantdormouse I kind of got it sewing! It's not a permanent or ideal fix, but i got it going. I figured which part on reverse mechanism needs to be pushed up/back. As long as I don't press the reverse button - it's going in the right direction :) It'll work for me for now. I wish I could attach a photo here.

hi, I live in germany and I'm trying to find the bobbins that go to this machine. I've tried two different ones from the local sewing store but they don't fit. Somehow the only one I had broke but no markings on it to tell what I need to buy. I would really appreciate some help. thanks!

I have a Husqvarna Viking 6440 and it takes a class L bobbin. I don't know if that would help you or not. My sewing machine operates just like this one.
