I have a home owners association lording over my home, so I have a MFJ 1788 hidden in the attic. It only goes down to 40 meters. Just bought the book and hope there is something in there that will get me 160 meters,. We'll see. The only thing that I am a little concerned about is building or coming up with the capacitor. 73's Bob KC4NEH

25 years ago I worked Rod Newkirk, W6BRD (SK) who was using a three turn loop from his basement. Rod was the QST "How's DX" conductor for many years. 73 de W6QR

Dave the PVC tube with metal inner may be the thing that has been used for in floor radiant heat over here. I had a friend that built a garage and had this sort of thing in the slab when it was poured. I don’t know what sizes it comes in but I’m pretty sure it was aluminum lining with a PVC outer. Cheers from Moose Jaw.

The aluminum pvc tubing is commonly used for flexible compressed air line. Google fastpipe air line.

Europe is not a single country with a central government like the USA, laws and habits vary greatly depending where you are. Here in France we have a law guaranteeing access to the airwaves and it is illegal for anybody to stop you from erecting an antenna. Thus US style HOA restrictions on antennas would be illegal!

Due to the 10th Amendment, the US is not a single country with a central top-down government like European countries are. Every US state is considered its own sovereign country that has final authority for everything that remains within its borders except for the few limited powers explicitly written down in the Constitution for the federal branches.
Which is why covid response was so widely different from State to State compared to the blanket crackdown in France and other EU countries. Or why Federal natural disaster relief cannot enter a state after a hurricane until the state Governor allows them.
Or why the President could not send anyone to Seattle during the 2020 Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone protests because Seattle chief of police said they did not need help, but this did happen during 1992 LA riots when Governor Wilson had requested federal assistance allowing President Bush to invoke the Insurrection Act with Executive Order 12804.
Or why some still States have a State Defense Force that only answers to the Governor alongside their National Guard that is part of the DoD. Or why criminals transferred from one state to another have to go through extradition just like those transferred between France and New York.
Thus people shouldn't "US style" are like laws of one country like France but more like those of a group of countries such as the European Union and laws like the CEPT Recommendation T/R 61-01 for reciprocal amateur radio operating privileges.

@@sammiller6631 Dave was talking of Europe as if it was a single entity which it isn't. For a start not all European countries are in the EU and even countries within the EU can do pretty serious stuff like going to war without even asking permission from other EU members or from the EU. Within the EU criminals obviously need to be extradited. Never ever in case of riots the EU or a neighbouring country intervenes. And finally the EU budget is a tiny portion of the US federal government, it is a much smaller organisation than the US federal government. The union between EU countries is much weaker than between USA states. Also we are all organised very differently, France has a centralised government whereas Germany and Spain don't etc...

Hi Dave! I am a subscriber and would like to ASK DAVE a question. I'm posting here only as it is your most recent video. If I should've done so elsewhere, sorry! I plan to put up a OCF 40-10 meter dipole at a 1/2 wave length height. No vertical stubs, etc. I want to work DX. But I face a long feedline run of perhaps up to 160feet (from station to feedpoint). I have access to on-line calcs that will estimate ERP based on coax type and length. I assume Times LMR 400. My question is: But how is ERP affected by using an OCF rather than traditional 1/2 WL single band dipole? And, if having a OCF does matter, how does it change from say, 40 to 20 to 10 meters? I am looking forward to the next Sunspot Max which is fast approaching for 2025 and am planning. Back in 2000 I worked 20M from Guam, Japan, Svalbard Is., and Irkutsk during several late afternoons, my local time. TIA! My best!
