      You can go to Daytona 45 minutes to the East or, Clear Water to the West. About an hour. Awesome Beach. Both have Piers and eat establishments. You can drive on Daytona Beach but, Clear Water is nicer.

    I SOOOO prefer the gulf beaches! Went to Vero once and thought I was getting sucked out to sea.

      I recall having the same thought right outside Disney's Vero Beach Resort.

      @@TheParkhop I remember the scare about flesh-eating bacteria and the Red Tide in the Gulf waters. I would like to think this is not a major problem anymore, but something tells me it's still around, albeit less frequently.

    Thought about moving to Florida. And was thinking about Orlando. But a huge turnoff for me was the distance to the beach

      Yeah just over an hour is soooooo far. Closest beach to me is about a 3 hr drive.

    What if you don't want calm waters and want to bogey board or surf with your kids?

    • @TheParkhop
      @TheParkhop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you will have good luck on the Atlantic side. Gulf waters can be good for that, too, depending on weather. The day before I shot this, the water was actually very rough and my family was body surfing. The gulf side is calmer on average, though.

      @@TheParkhop ok cool. Im going in September and want to surf with my kids on one of our days but don't want to spend so much at disneyworld for 2 hours of surfing at the waterpark.

      A day body surfing at Cocoa Beach can be fantastic. Depending on weather and your family's comfort in the water, the Gulf side can be a better option for body surfing/bogey boarding. Fewer surfers and surf boards can make it a more chill experience. The generally shallower water can be very helpful for kids trying to catch a wave or get past to the other side of the bar.
