CJets Planespotting™ at YYC It's sad, true, but the C-17's primary customer, the US Air Force has stopped ordering them. What's Boeing got to do with that?
CJets Planespotting™ at YYC Thanks for sharing that with me. I'd have never guessed who builds them on my own. Let me try this another way ... If the Air Force won't fund building any more of them -- and the plane's foreign purchasers don't want any more, either, Boeing has NO reason to build any more of them.
I remember watching a C-17 being put through its paces at the "Wings Over Sonoma" air show in Santa Rosa, CA in 2006. I was amazed at its maneuverability, with the tightest turn radius I've ever seen on a transport. Of course, it was quite a novelty to watch it back into its parking place following landing, and was open for public tours within 15 minutes. Incredibly large cargo bay - sorta reminded me of the old C-5 Galaxy, but somewhat smaller of course. Still, I suspect C-17s will be flying for many years to come, since their short takeoff and landing runs almost rival the C-130's but with a much greater cargo capacity. Nonetheless, it saddens me to know that such an efficient aircraft will no longer be manufactured. Job well done, crews, well done!
I used to build these ... starting ONE YEAR (Dec '85?) before "production" began at Bldg 54, when the C-17 was being built by McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Co., There is much I could say, but suffice that I was there then, doing that ... as a Development Production Supervisor for Aft Fuselage Assembly. I fondly remember So MANY of my co-workers, pulling 12 hr shifts - 6 days a week & 8 hrs on the 7th day, the Senatorial & Congressional "Dog & Pony Shows" when they came around to "review production progress" ... the Harley I bought with mjy (Mgmt) Bonus, Romantic Liaisons & battles won & lost with enemies ...
+Boeing Next they could have moved some 737 production here.. but it's being closed and land sold off to developers. The Long Beach McDonnell is merely just a shadow of what it was back in the hey day. The last aircraft to be manufactured in California.
LMC are a inspiration for me, I am mexican, and develop concepts in security systems, but in mexico no exist, defense companies, and my dream are present this concepts to LMC, i have a patent pending concepts in armored video security systems , exclusivly for the south america market, this systems are for the operationals platforms in the first line of defense against a organized crime in mexico, this systems have capabylties for watch the human rights and combat operations, whit rapid deploy , y have like LMC mix feelings about C17, but are tracendental this moment becouse this last Masterglobe, fly, the next 50 years!! in 50 years all ended!!! said Larry Sainfeld hahah!! CGTS!!
After the merger when things got on track the C-17 actually became the plane envisioned. It's just too bad there couldn't be a 1-for-1 replacement of the C-141, as there is so much demand for airlift.
And now the C-130 will not be replaced by the C-17 and the C-5 due to the C-17 production is over and the C-5 is too expensive, big and needs a good runway
Y'all need to turn off all except ONE movement alarm ok? Is that too much to ask? America is now a Nanny State and probably why you stopped at 279. ;-) Long pause............Sigh.........
The C-17 is a great plane its a shame it's the last one rolling off the line but knowing that Beoing has plans for the C-17 is great.
all the warning bells remind me of McDonlads when the chips need to be shaken or pulled from the hot fat ;)
hi
Sad to see the end of production, our RAAF fly them regularly around our town, great lifters and workhorse.
I have worked on Ship 1 on major Join of the nose to the mid section and build up the bulkheads on the ramp. great times!
C'mon boeing. You could have made 300 C-17's
It's sad that Boeing is discontinuing the production of the C-17.
CJets Planespotting™ at YYC It's sad, true, but the C-17's primary customer, the US Air Force has stopped ordering them. What's Boeing got to do with that?
navy57 Because Boeing is the one who builds the C-17.
CJets Planespotting™ at YYC Thanks for sharing that with me. I'd have never guessed who builds them on my own.

Globemaster. Best. Transport plane. Ever.
Thank you people of Boeing for sharing this.
So sad! MD's legend lost one more.
The c-17 is my favorite!
long from 737-200!

Very sad..it was one of the greatest airplane ever built in my opinion.
Very interesting showing the joins.
I work with many associates who came from the C-17 program.
They all have a story to tell.
Now onto the Globemaster IV?

Awesome aircraft, the C-17 production is now complete
So they are fully built at long beach? Can you guys do like a open house before the plant closes or is another part of boeing going to use the hangers
Awesome engineering and manufacturing.
279 is too few units of such a valuable asset, a more sustainable figure should have been 500.
What happens to Long Beach after this?
+Boeing Next they could have moved some 737 production here.. but it's being closed and land sold off to developers. The Long Beach McDonnell is merely just a shadow of what it was back in the hey day. The last aircraft to be manufactured in California.
What is replacing the C-17?
Wish I coulda been down there for the final departure
d
I hope some day Boeing will restart the production again.
Long Beach misses you!
Why are'nt you making anymore!
wswe
I guess the Elevators were Elevated into to place *hint hint nudge nudge*
This is the saddest video I've ever seen
The Air Force just isn't keeping up with other military areas...
Is there going to be a replacement for the C-17?
I want more c17
Really sad to see it go ;( Maybe Boeing could develop new airplanes like this one in the future
It is sad to see the last C 17 being built. I wonder what will the next military transport will look like?
who is the owner of last C-17 Indian Airforce or USAF
Last one went to Qatar Emiri Air Force
I'm jealous. They haven't been building my tanker for a long time! ha
I thought they were still making these for export...
So sad:,(😢
*Sad, any follow on Projects?*
Last!!!! nooooooo!!!!!
I love that plane even though am an Airbus fan.
What country is this destined for, because I remember Canada placed one more on order
Last one went to Qatar Emiri Air Force
why no more!!!!!!
what is going to replace this?
Wow thats not many planes to stop production

I live in camarillo near this place
anyone else think if this Boeing 737?
why did you?! find a huge replacement ok?
It's such a shame. They're a great heavy lifter and it's sad that this is the last one made.
Why stop making them?

What secrets are you keeping from the people of the world, Boeing?.....
That's sad
young buck
:'(
So hopefully some of the people can be moved to St. Louis. Boeing really wants out of California.
Bye bye c-17
