Smelly’s been sober since like the early 90’s, why would U even belittle him by talking about a time when he wasn’t. “Sober smelly”. You’re a fkn clown
This is how amazing smelly is; In 1998, they had just made there website, and had a Q&A section. It might still be there. I was on way too many drugs and was going thru a lot, and I left a question about Smellys Sobriety. He called my house to speak with me. For years after that, I was on pass lists, I saw them in Buffalo and Toronto every time they came around. Had stage passes. Been on there tour bus, hung out with mike, guys from good riddance, and plenty of others. Smelly is an amazing human being
@@YettiManChannel I remember i came home one day and my mom was like “a guy named Eric Sandin called you. He’s in a band? He wanted to speak with you? Who is that” …..and I was like no way. NOFX is my "The Beatles. I have been saying that for years. It is true that you feel a connection to these guys from their music. when a band has been a part of your life for for over 25 years, it sticks with you.
Me too. I've been saying the same thing for 20+ years. I was given "I Heard They Suck Live" by a friend, because, why???? He told me "This band is a terrible excuse for a punk band". Meanwhile, he thought Sugar Ray's first album was the best punk rock record he ever heard. I was introduced to NOFX, because my friend thought "punk rock" was Sugar Ray's first album... Something about Lemonade.
I very specifically remember the first time hearing Nofx, sitting by the side of my friends pool as she told me about them and sung shower days. She grabbed the tape, and green corn started playing... I was hooked immediately! Funnily enough I can’t remember the first time I heard the descendents, and they had a far bigger impact on me (and everyone else who has good taste)
Eric is one of my favorite drummers and one of my biggest influences. Pretty sure this one interview doubles or triples the amount of Eric Sandin interviews available on youtube. Thank you!
Amazing episode. Even if it makes me feel a bit old, 'cause I do know what a cd slot is. And I do remember the first time I listened to a NOFX song, I didn't listen from a cd but from a music casette 😂 love the change from this funny stuff to pretty serious things back to fun.

Went back to listen to Day to Daze, and I found the mistake. However it actually makes the song better because its a like a delayed double roll right before the lyrics come in, which is actually what I do to signal the vocals. Happy mistake my Dude, awesome
Smelly reached out to me personally to help me get sober. I’ve met him numerous times, and he has always added me to the BS list. Smelly is a saint and a great person
NOFX is my favorite band. The reason why they can still play is because of Smelly. He is on point every show. Fat Mike can get as fucked up as he wants and mess up and forget lyrics, but they still sound great because Smelly does not mess up.
If Smelly wasnt in NOFX, NOFX would never made it, I'm clad he got sober, but he never changed. Smelly you are my fav drummer. I remember hearing Punk in Dublic for the first time, I was at my local skate shop, it had a mini ramp at the back of the shop this is in Gold Coast Australia, called Phrunt Side I was 12 years old surfes paradise (its a strip club now) I went home picked up my bass and started playing punk rock it changed my life.
Dookie was also the first or one the first albums that made me gravitate to punk. I was like 8/9 years old and my mom really liked the singles of that album. When I was like 12 i heard the full record and then I went to stuff like Blink 182 and eventually heard people saying "oh, thats not *real* punk, you have to listen this and that..." and by the time I was 14 I was hooked with the whole genre (from the classics, to the commercial, all of it). Even now, I find myself discovering music that has strong punk roots like IDLES and I love it. It's such an important genre in my life. I remember the first time I heard The Decline... I was so blown away. Til' this day I find that it's ironic that punk being known for feeling, basic chords and short songs, I still think that that song is one of the best Punk songs ever written haha and it's so long and technical.
Here is the thing about NOFX, they might be bad one night, they might suck, but they have the best songs. Mike is a brilliant writer and lyricist, and that’s all that matters. A band lives and dies by there songs.
"NOFX is the Beatles of punk rock." Check out Wore Out the Soles of My Party Boots and compare to Black Bird. I noticed that a while back, it's incredible.
Holy shit. Did you just ruin NOFX for me? Or the Beatles? Or both? Or elevate them somehow? So confused... but nahhh. Course not. Thanks for pointing out! This is great!!!
If possible, can you interview more 80’s-90’s punk band members? Personally I’d love to hear from the singer of Limp, they weren’t huge but they had a great sound
Haha, I totally relate to the older brother having nofx and stealing his cd, except for me it was Ribbed. And that is still my fav album to this day. Have bought it on vinyl and the condom cover looks great, with red vinyl, so good.

And he always judges me.. until this days I can see the “How did this happen?” look in his eyes 😂 I’ll quote you in our next conversation about it to see what he says 🤣 I mean.. he can refute me, but he can’t refute Johnny Christ
FreedumbFighter29 yeah that’s fair. Mike openly admitted to stealing their sound after hearing ‘Suffer’ ... then again, so did half those punk rock bands back in the day haha and tbh that’s all my favorite shit haha

How does this happen. how can you have the worst musicians, a mexican dude that plays punk rock, the singer cant sing. Yet they make some of the greatest songs ever created. I actually believe that they are great musicians and the fact that they are normal dudes and dont take themselves seriously, makes them even greater. they are the beatles of punk, they are the kings of punk and they are hands down my favorite band ever. how can the band be that good and not practice... thats how good they are
That's what sincerity and true non-bullshit friendship looks like. If he had bottled up all those feelings about Mike doing drugs they probably wouldnt be friends by now.
I think it sucks that NOFX was banned from being able to play in most places. I mean they haven’t even played here in their hometown of Los Angeles for a few years. Then the coronavirus happens, this sucks, I heard they suck live
